Mine was too😂
How tf do we sell out of these glasses like there's literally one use for them and we know the exact date and time we need them how tf do we not have enough lol
dont know about where you are but here a lot of amazon sellers were selling cheap unsafe glasses that had to be recalled and a lot of stores, notably canadian tire (big hardware store here) was also selling non certified cheap glasses. I assume this has pushed a lot of people towards the more reliable sources of glasses which might not have enough for the sudden surge of people needing glasses last minute
The best explanation of not only how to make the box but how to use it!
In "83, I experienced a total eclipse... of the heart.
I just made this with my son as soon as I found your video. He was upset we could find glass anywhere and all he has been talking about for a week is the eclipse and telling me everything he learns. Its so cute and amazes me to hearing i call them big words and meaning. He is so happy now and showing everyone this and how to use it.I even said i will pick him up early from school tomorrow Thank you for the graat videp
Ok, so I just tried this myself and made it, but I don't see the sun through it. Is this only supposed to work during the eclipse?
@@exeggutivejudge3747 no it works with the sun or any light hold it up to you right on the side with no foil. and you back is to the sun or a light the side with the foil should be line up over ur shoulder slow move around keep moveing till you see a dot of the white paper and u can seen the beem of light coming move slow is the key its really cool try using a lamp to get the hang of it.
hope this helps
@@KraftingWithKimmy OK thnx and one more question? When taping the paper to the bottom of the box, should I only use clear tape to make the sun go through, or it doesn't matter which tape I use to seal the paper??
@@exeggutivejudge3747 the tape doesnt matter the sun doesnt go thought the paper / bottom of the box. the light basicly bounce of the paper when it pass though the pin hold. it looks like a hole but its not you only tape the paper to the bottle and the only whole you make is on the foil the is the light reflexing/boumcing off the white paper. At First I thought there was a whole there My son was the one that said no and i just helped make sure it was sercure and taped well. I think that should help and though that also glad i could helo
@@KraftingWithKimmy Thnx for the tip and I tested the box again and it works. I see the sun through the hole so now I'm ready. Thnx in advance and hope I don't go blind 🤣🤣👍🏾👍🏾
Not gonna lie but the cereal box version sounds much more safer than the made in china eclipse glasses! 😂
You can be put in jail by not using a crosswalk to cross the street in China lol 🤣🤣
@@Yaboygamez I grew up in China and have never heard anything like this before. I am surprised by your ignorance, especially given how ridiculously confident you sound...
@@skeeteryu Bro what the heck
Everything you're using was most likely made in China... including your phone.
Fr😂
I'm a little sad I can't get eclipse glasses in time, I somehow just... didn't hear about it. I'm in a place where it's just a partial, unlike the previous one, but I'd still love to see it.
Read my instructions above. All you need is a piece of glass and a candle, duh.
😂😂 I can’t imagine myself outside, looking out through a cereal box😂😂🎉🎉
Yeah it's a bogus idea you don't even see the sky
Exactly… wear your darkest shades and look up…
Tysm❤i send this to my whole family and they were able to successfully make it with these simple steps!
Thank you!!
Does it matter how long the box is? Would you get a more clear view of the appeared changes in the disc of the sun by having a shorter box?
For all of those who do not have or cannot afford these special glasses, here is a tip. Take pieces of glass and cover them with soot over a candle. Same damned thing, and free. I did this for the solar eclipse in Wisconsin on June 30th, 1954. Worked like magic.
take pieces of GLASS and cover with soot from a candle!!!? um, would you like to write that again in English!!! 😂😂😂 Not one word made any sense at all!! The glasses are cheap, like $2 a pair!
@@meliss36 - This advice was for the more technically telented such as HS students and the like, and thus a bit above your level apparently. 😜
Yeah it made sense to me lol
@@meliss36 I'll try to help. 1) light a candle 2) find something that is glass which you aren't afraid to put in a small flame. 3) place your glass object directly in the flame of the candle. 4) wait until your glass gets a thick layer of black stuff on it. 5) attempt to look at the sun through the blackened glass. If the brightness hurts at all, repeat steps 3 and 4. If it still hurts, give up. Do not look at the sun for a long time.
OP instruction is mostly for people who can't find the glasses.
@@meliss36he spoke perfect English idk how u didn’t understand his comment 😂
can confirm that this also works with a tv dinner box
It works great, i am with cheerios box!
I'm going to make it right now 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thank you...they work great if not better than the glasses.
Great idea
STILL A VERY BRIGHT LIGHT
It not the same.. I did the last one... I WANT TO BE IN SPACE TO SEE IT!!!!
Will this work
What if i use the front facing camera on my cellphone?
You could damage them.
you can damage your phone’s lenses by doing that. nasa has an article depicting how you can prevent the damage though, just look it uo
thanks
What opening to look?
How many people went blind after the last eclipse?
I remember the last one it was in 2017. I looked at it for like a fraction of a second out my window. I remember seeing only half of the moon covering the sun. Can you really go blind from looking at it directly?
@@josebro352 we’d have a bunch of blind drug addicts if it wasn’t a myth.
youd have to stare at it for quite a while, most people aren't that stupid. just another example of how difficult it is to find accurate information.
many many Million's of people go blind every time we have a Solar Eclipse ! Ha Ha Ha ... I asked quite a few people that same question ... and yet no one can name someone they know or that the heard of with a vision problem from an eclipse ??? apparently it really isn't much of a problem at all !
@@josebro352 Yes you can get damage
We could hardly detect the changes in the sun, even when it was close to totality. I used a cereal box, and made the viewer just as this video showed.
Ok, I’m challenged. J made the box, but the sun is to your BACK?!?!
Um, that's not that same as actually seeing the eclipse through glasses. So if you are happy just seeing the shadow than an easier way is just get some paper and use a pencil to poke some hole in it than just hold it out and the sun shining through the holes will cast an eclipse shadow for each hole. When i was a kid i didn't even know an eclipse was happening but as i walked past a tree i saw a bunch of half mood shaped spots on the sidewalk only later realizing the sunlight beaming through the branches and leaves was causing it.
That is not enough, just poking hole in paper, the way he uses the box and the foil protects the eyes from harmful rays. Which apparently are stronger during a solar eclipse. If all you use is just a flimsy piece of paper your eyes most certainly will be damaged.
So there I was with my cherries box on my front lawn looking like an idiot with a house shaped sun spot in a box. Nothing happened.
Just watched it with one of these and MAN was that a waste of time 😂 just a light in a box idk what i was expecting…
I heard a total eclipse of the heart
I know an easier way just watch it live on youtube.
Give me back my 5 minutes
Are you cereal
is this legit????
Yes, I was a kid in 1963 and my dad made one, worked fine. Although glasses were abundant here for this one, I opt to go the old way. My eyes aren't the best, so I trust this method.
YES. I did in 2017
Did this like ten years ago. It works, but don’t expect it to be like looking at the sun itself with glasses
misleading. tons of info on how to look at an image of the eclipse but not how to make glasses. at least the others dont mislead.

Bruh I just want to use my sunglasses by this point what the-- 😒😒😒😒😤😤😤😤😡😡😡😡😠😠😠😠🤬🤬🤬🤬
Yea, don't do that. Sunglasses not safe enough.
It doesn’t work
im blind now
If you place the box on a corner of the printer paper, you would have to make only two straight cuts! Why waste paper?
Dont do this!!
I don’t see what the big deal about this is. It happens every so many years so since it happened before it’s the same thing every so many years it’s nothing different so I don’t see the big hype about this. I don’t see why they had to take GH off for this this was not necessary at all. There’s no big deal once you seen it. It’s the same thing.
This was bullshit, didn’t work. Thank god I have a friend that let me borrow his glasses.
This is a joke you can’t see the moon over the sun it just shows a light or light from the sun. Dumb.
