Level Up your Discord Server with Onboarding

- Discord's onboarding system. It's kinda complex.
Whether you're a beginner or an advanced user, Discord's onboarding shouldn't just stop at being a reaction roles bot replacement. Using onboarding, you can level up your super complex dumpster fire of a Discord server and turn it into a place where people would actually want to chat. Honestly a level 1 noob to level 100 mafia boss type glow up.
And wowsers, it's been a while since I dropped a Discord tutorial. Giving out the forbidden knowledge while bickering to Discord.

I hate servers that force you to introduce yourself, like there are actually smaller ones that force you to introduce yourself before you get any roles and it has to be accepted by the owners.
so true, like, let me in and let me be socially awkward in peace
My server is like that but we have a reason, my server is for people from my country only and we have a reason for this, so we get so many attacks from people from another country that have problems with us so we have to do the verification step
And i think its cool to have verification, when you well be on a server like this you well be sure thats its more safer from a public one
My server does that for a reason. We include a code word that they must include in their introduction to show that they have definitely read the rules. If they don't have that word, then it shows that they haven't read the rules, and will potentially cause trouble.
@@raracool04 So what if you had that codeword but... without the introduction part
@@crassianleviathan6187 too noticeable probably
- create a server
- leave text #general and voice #General
- add meme channel
done, a chad server for ur homies
Yeah, so many servers im in get like 5 messages a day, but have like 80 channels. If its like less than 100 members you only really need a dozen or so channels
@desboot9128 having too many channels is bad for small servers because discussions are spread between them very widely so no actual conversation happens
„Now don‘t get too excited and finish early, because that‘s how your wife will leave you“
i love this guy 😂😂
OH I JUST GOT IT
Lmao
@@CrunchySpon haha
why are you using commas instead of quotation marks, that's not grammatically sane in ANY natural language lmao
@@SnoFitzroy Whats ironic about this is that it is grammatically sane in some other languages.
Legitimately: if a server requires me to make a public message before I can see channels, I'm leaving immediately. I don't want to draw attention to myself before I know that I'm going to stick around, and I can't even start to figure that out without seeing what people are talking about.
It doesn't require you to make a message to see channels, it just kinda nags you above the text-bar and top of channel list with a thing telling u to say smth. which is still annoying, but not as bad.
@@amberwingthefairycat I'm not referring specifically to the discord feature in the video. People have been using role bots to do what I described. If the first party onboarding is only a suggestion, and the bad setup still needs role bots, then that makes my comment a little off topic, but one way or another, there are servers like I described, and I hate them.
This is a great video! One thing I would've liked to have seen covered is using onboarding as an anti-bot measure by having a "Selecting this role will permanently ban you!" selection.
this is real
💀 that ain't gonna work
@@eeve_e3 bots select every role so yes it will
some trolls like me are obs gonna click on it ☠
@@copycatyt4840 Then you'll get banned lol. If it says in big obvious text "You will be banned if you select this role", and you select the role, that's your problem.
The worst part of onboarding is definitely the requirement for 5 channels to have both the read and send messages enabled for @everyone, this limits moderation tools like mute roles. It's a cool feature but its held back by these arbitrary limitations.
I've seen this on a few servers, but never really looked into it myself. Though quite a few servers have gotten overboard with the questions where I'd rather just click reactions on a bot than fill a surprise application.

Already using this mate! Moved color roles, reaction roles and channel access channels to onboarding system and it looks clean.
MAAAYBEEE I'll add like 2 more questions, but not that needed. Overall pretty cool thing ig..
Yo whats happening for the ones already in the server when adding onboarding?
The thing I don't like about onboarding is that it requires @.everyone to see X amount of channels. The way I have my server setup is @.everyone are unable to see any channels other than announcements, welcome and goodbye & rules unless they accept the rules which then gives them the role to access the server.
Under Safety Setup -> DM and Spam Protection, you can enable rule screening. They rolled this out before onboarding as a replacement for "bot-gating" or whatever you want to call it. It's much more streamlined as it has a dedicated interface where the user has to agree to the rules.
@@nanorex_designs That feature is kinda useless, because any user who has seen this dialog a few times, they just scroll to the bottom and click accept.
If you really want them to read the rules a bit, put a secret validation code or whatever within the rules text.
But yeah, it depends on what your server tries to be
@@Rocky712_ It's not to get people to read the rules, its a gate for most "bot" accounts. 1/30 people read rules, all servers have pretty much the same rules anyway...
Same. I was trying to set up a server where you only get access to the server once an admin gives you a role, but I couldn't because of that stupid rule

You forgot about the important question that gives you back all the default channels because there's a bug where if existing members answers at least a single question Discord will turn off all of the channels for them, even those marked as default.
Yeah 3 months after your comment and this is STILL a bug. You also can't add new channels, because they wont show for anyone. Like hwo on earth did this get overlooked an dhow is it still a problem ?!
@@brodymoore9485 Its still a problem..................
Was looking to make my server a community server. God am I happy that I came across this. After I figure this out, I cant wait to dive into your other videos.
That minimum public channel thing is a pain when you have a system to force people to accept rules.. with reaction :/
Was looking for a tutorial - found the most funny video on TH-cam. Subscribed!
Hey man, I just stumbled across your channel recently. I'm not very interested in Discord but your videos are addicting. I thoroughly enjoy going through each of your videos these past few days and they're funny with great quality and awesome kisses at the end lmao. You've earned yourself a subscriber ❤️

Just found your channel and I adore your outro! Makes me feel so loved
This is perfect for describing what's going on with the onboarding! Thank you for this!
As someone who's Carlbot broke for my three vanity roles people have to pick one of, onboarding was a great thing to help fix that.
Thanks a ton for this video, its helped me a bunch!
I hate the fact that you need 5 channels where @everyone can type in just to enable onboarding. I have a verification system and I literally can't have 5 channels for everyone just like that. I hope discord looks into this and lowers the requirement to just 1 channel, which is the one people will use to verify.
This video was so helpful oh my goodness, this guy is so helpful, I Subscribed to his channel ❤
im grateful i see this now because i was about to do reaction roles
Seems like a neat set of features.
Lowkey feel played for subscribing to mee6 now thanks for the great video
Thanks for your video, NTTS.
Gerat, now I have to take a quiz before i join a server. Wonderful.
welcome to discord's clutter and visual polution
A actual good feature! Finally!
what are they trying to cover up
For some reason when you set up a server guide or the channels and roles the stuff you put can disappear, like it will say there’s no Customisation Questions even tho you set them up and they haven’t been deleted, or your server guide can just be completely blank even tho you have stuff there for it
Ever since I watched your temu video I’ve gotten SO MANY temu ads it’s insane.
haha i'd wish but i need like 6 channels to enable this.
pretty hard for a server called one channel
Onboarding is such a goated feature. Helps eliminate clutter
the transitions between chapters in the videos are pretty smooth, how did u do them
Ohh so that's what the new server role systems were from. I always thought it was some feature a server gets only if it's added to Discord's partner servers.
I personally hate onboarding because when I join a server I want to immediatly talk in it. Its personally so annoying to get the pop up EVERY SINGLE TIME about "hey do u want the chungus role or the among us role and hey do you want funny memez 69 channel or general chat"
Wondering if whenever the situation blows over/there's more info about it, if you could make a video about the new fast-spreading malware that was uploaded onto Curseforge for minecraft mods! The owner of LunaPixel, the modding studio who made BetterMC, got severely hacked and compromised because the malware spread into their computer after updating a mod. It turns out that the earliest potential malware upload on Curseforge stems back to April 13th!
This hack is insanely severe, employees of Mojang were even contacted to see if they had been affected. Apparently it's so bad that they recommend not even touching minecraft on your computer until it blows over, even if you don't have mods.
I think it'd make a super interesting video!
Hey, make a video finding out what caused Discord's search to dive in quality like a year back. Suddenly you couldn't search for IDs and get every result, making results unreliable, affecting people's ability to moderate.
You should make more vids like this about servers
Im gonna use this video to improve my onboarding
This encouraged me to finally refresh my server and it looks so much better now
2:19 seeing my favorite anime here and making me remember it and the 40 times ive watched it made me bawl my eyes out
The only thing I dislike is that many servers will make it required to choose an option like bro I don't want news about the uk 💀
The thing I don't really understand is, how does the Welcome Screen play into this? Does it still pop up somewhere or does this completely replace that? (I prefer the Welcome Screen over onboarding so I doubt I'll be enabling it.💀)
I hate discord mobile settings,
Ssame
0:00 Ok. I don’t even have discord lol
For some reason, in our server, the option for "Server Guide" is missing and ahs been missing since a few months ago when our server got the onboard ability,, any ideas on why?
4:43 was outta pocket 😻💀
Onboarding is completely incompatible with how I want to run my server and will break basically every permission I have set up if I want to accommodate it, it's pretty ridiculous that they don't let you break their rigid rules on how it must be used like your example with the resource channel (and there's also the bit with the animation and such which I find ridiculously obnoxious when joining servers)
i want to set this up but i want to keep it that you have to react to the rules to gain accsess. when a new member joins i want them to ONLY see: Rules, introductions, roles and the welcome area.
Can you edit the background of the onboarding? like when you get to the ((let us customize you experience page the background image is it editable?
so for some reason, it's activated all the channels for people... They have to go into the questions and answer them all in order to get rid of channels they didn't want.
A Silent Voice, Mob Psycho 100... NTTS has the best taste in youtube history
This onboarding broke my server. It doesn't update Roles if you add new viable channels to those roles AFTER someone has selected their choices. They have to reselect their answers to see the channels. Now I have channels I set to default and need everyone to see that literally no one can see.
Hey, that was super useful! I'm sure you've covered this somewhere already, but I'm having the hardest time finding it... I want to set my server so that people must read an agree to the rules before having access to any other channels (e.g. rea and emoji react, then other channels unlock). Apparently there should be a "Rules Screening" under "Moderation", but my server does not show this. Am I missing a setting somewhere to make it appear? Thanks!
Try clicking on the drop down menu of your server (where you access server settings) and check on "Show All Channels"
“Feeble humans”
Starfire in the corner an alien princess
4:45 "thats how your wife will leave you" this mans humorous is soo good, love this!
I wonder why my server isnt getting the "Server Guide" feature and ive been waiting for a long time after the onboarding stuff
Nice :D
For example "what do you want to be notified about ?"
Should i make so that for example if a member wants to be notified about moves, should i add him the channels ? or should i only add the ping ?
Reaction roles were outdated a while ago the last bot i made for my server was a button role bot :)
i dont see many servers with button roles though.
I developed a button role bot aprox. 1 year ago
When I finished, the owner was so dumb that she didn't understood how the fuck it would be used (I recorded videos, I went call, DAMN), and... it turns out it was a waste of my time and the bot never has been used :)

Too bad you aren’t first
Ya your like the 20th
Finally a good Discord update
I already have this enabled.
happy 300 video
Its especially hard on phone bc on a phone u cant do it in the app
You have to use safari and then request desktop sight
And discord online on a phone just sucks
Its always so zoomed in and even at max zoom out u still cant see some stuff and i cant even scroll to see the rest of it
So i have to rotate my phone alot to do it
And then like the for me anytime i try select anything it makes it so that i can only see the very bottom of the screen
y r u better at showing off discord features than discord
Well today’s the day, names getting chosen and there’s already sites to buy OG names.
a server I'm mod in has that, members just get confused 😒
cant imagine making this many channels for talking
awsome video, i was making a channel this video helped a lot
once i hit enable onboarding, i can't go back to the setup screen shown at 1:21. how do i fix this?
i specifically want to change the "users must accept rules before being let into the server" thing
server guide isnt available on my server sadly
Question, does anyone know if this affects if you have people react to a message to gain access to the server?
For some reason after checking all of the channels I don't have the option to click "next". Lovely...
W video will there be anymore roblox?
Thanks
Instructions unclear everyone now has admin
Hello, does that mean I can get rid of my Sapphire Bot? Or Sapphire is still needed in some instances? Thank you
Weird cool
From what I've seen, you can't do it for personal severs, which sucks. It's something I'd definitely implement
Anyone can enable the community option, not just communities.
sorry ntts but i have tried watching this 2 times and both times i fell asleep
The Server Guide feature is not enabled for everyone. I for example don't have it on my server, I can't set it up.
I wish I could add custom emoijs without first adding them to the server like color roles
For me, it seems like its not worth the effort. One extra channel or setting this thing up? I will stick with the extra channel. Also there is a problem with channel creating bots, when new channel gets created users cant see it due to onboarding
Anyone else getting failed to save server guide regardless of which task or how many you're adding when tying to turn on server guide?
there is this issue where i can't do the onboarding because it says: "minimum of 7 channels, minimum of 5 channels new-members can chat in" i don't seem to have done anything off the tutorial and nothing else works
umm. I cant edit it. i made the question 1+1 and now there is no way to edit the questions. in the onboarding tab there isnt a section to edit questions anymore?? help???
Would it be ok to add a verification question in onboarding that gives a verified role so that more channels can be accessed?
Early cause I was stalking
Is it necessary to assign roles when utilizing Onboarding, or is it feasible to create categories consisting of text and voice channels only? This way, individuals can choose whether or not to display this on their Discord profile upon joining.
Thanks now my onboarding doesn't look like 💩
Verification systems:
prison school is my favourite channel
its nice but i hate having to something before joining like i just wanna use the server
I feel like a lot of people will leave the server *_because_* of the onboarding process.
Discord made my server creation more easier and fast to setup.. 🎉
bro i don’t even use discord but good video 👍
