I am a big fan of Gwulo in the recent years. I wish I had known this website years ago. Thank you so much for everything, thank you for your love about HK.
Appreciating how much hard work David has been doing over the years, in order to make the website becomes resourceful and useful for people who are interested in HK history. Wishing you all the best and having a happy life in Wales.
Sorry to see you leaving HK, David. Hearty congratulations and many thanks for everything you have shared and contributed, and best of luck for your life in the land of our fathers!
Thanks so much to him who truely and deeply loves Hong Kong ...do appreciate his full effort and valuable time for this website...God bless him and his family!🥺💝🙏
i do appreciate Mr. Bellis for the Gwulo website. i think the first time i began appreciating his website was in 2010. i particularly enjoy his picture collection of HK in the 60s, 70s periods. but i must also confess, overtime i lost interest in the Gwulo site as i found the content less relatable because it is about the white English Hong Kong. nothing wrong with the White English sensibilities but as someone growing up in housing estate working at makeshift factories in To Kwa Wan since age 14, i just don't have the life experience to "appreciate" the British colonial sentimentality. Mrs. Bellis (the Chinese wife) said in the video that HK today is "depressive" which i do not agree. i find HK today is so much better than the HK i remember of the 70s, 80s. having said that, I hope Mr. Bellis and his family continue to find happiness in the new journey forward. 60s is the new 30s. congratulations.
It's interesting that a person from a completely different culture keeps contributing this community for decades, but a regime which claims she own this territory has almost devastated this city.
in UK, public transit, even in London, is inferior and very inconvenient compared to what Hong Kong has. most people drive their own vehicle. UK has NHS but the government has consistently underfunded NHS, long wait time if you can wait. in recent years, many ex HKers who emigrated to UK in the 80s, 90s actually returned to HK to seek medicals because they could not wait and declining quality of NHS healthcare.

At the beginning, I thought "Gwulo" means
I used to read it as 鬼佬 lol
