    Just picked up my new 2022 polestar 2 (thunder, dual motor, base - no packs) a couple of weeks ago. I love it! You are quite right with the serene drive when you desire it or the engaging and quick drive if you choose. It does everything well and the power consumption is not as bad as people say. i live in California so no issues with cold, but have been averaging about 31 KWH per 100 miles. Not great but not bad either. Really glad i selected the polestar over the Kia or model 3.

    Love my 2022 Polestar 2 dual motor with Plus/Pilot packs. The best thing about it is the drive. It’s not Tesla tech by any means and certainly not a “tesla killer” but IMHO much better looking, better build and better drive. And doesn’t include a big fat marshmallow as CEO

    Took delivery of a Magnesium/Charcoal dual motor last March, best sporty/comfy balance and range with 19 inch rims and amazing without any packs: some aspects honestly for the better without packs, would exactly order the same trim over and over again

      Hi , whats better without whch packs pls? I'd prefer the heat pump without glass roof. Any other?

    • @SHAMPOOZE
      @SHAMPOOZE ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Michael-jf9dw hey Michael, the heat pump is part of the plus pack, so it you don't want the glass roof you already have a problem as it is also part of it. The heat pump is a gimmick as it gives you maximum 20km extra range and only under very specific conditions, hence not worth the investment (for me). The Harman Kardon sound system is a joke, as there is close to no sound in the back. The standard trim high performance audio (once tweaked with my settings, which I can share) sounds arguebly better and your passengers in the back will also hear something. Then the pilot pack: the semi-autonomous driving is still with its flaws, so I prefer using just normal cruise control, which the base trim has. The standard chairs are softer than the plus pack ones IMHO. I like the 3D etched deco elements in the dash also more than the wood ones you get with the plus pack. The interior lighting of the plus pack is better, but have the disadvantage around the center console that you will see each and every dust particle because of it. The wireless charging pad is useless as it cannot cope with the produced heat properly. I think the list goes on for me, but in the end it comes down to personal preference. BTW the rear light animation that was exclusive to pilot pack owners, became standard since software 2.4 for everyone... I also don't like to do an extra handling to get the rear camera view while parking instead of the 360 radar drawing. So save yourself some money IMHO.

    • @Michael-jf9dw
      @Michael-jf9dw ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok, thanks. I was merely after the heat pump since I really enjoy a de-iced car on the morning of 3-4 colder months here. My other ev doesn't have it either because I couldn't justify 800 eur premium. De-icing is no problem. I kust thought the hp would make it better. 4800 makes it even more questionable.
      About the audio settings i would be grateful though...

    Nice, interesting reasons. Two sticking points stand out.
    1. I don't like the large gaps in the front grille and do not understand their function. All I can think of is that there will be a lot of debris and insects stuck inside.
    2. You acknowledge that the rear view visibility is poor due to the small back window. The best solution is to install a digital rear view mirror dashcam, so you don't have to look through the small back window.

      @thomashorberg7944 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s still the front wheel that turns when steering, right? So if not AWD of course you choose FWD. Pretty clear who has manufactured cars for decades. And regardless, to date the P2 is the only good looking EV out there.

    • @afcgeo882
      @afcgeo882 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thomashorberg7944 The front wheel will still turn. That has NOTHING to do with traction.
      FWD performs better in the snow when the added weight of the engine and transmission is on top of the front axle, adding to the traction in the front. A Porsche 911 is fantastic in the snow in RWD because its engine is in the back. The same was true for VW Beetles. If your weight is evenly distributed then there’s no effect either way.

  • @LysanderLH
    @LysanderLH ปีที่แล้ว

    Take note. Every EV has always been and is still rated against Tesla EVs. There are good reasons for that. Buy the car that suits your needs because the rest is just fashion; a very temporary thing. If the car you are considering promises to one day do something but "doesn't quite yet", it won't do that in the time you own the car.
    For example, Teslas are in permanent beta testing. They issue software updates every month. This means that you are buying an incomplete product which treats you like a researcher for their profits. So buy a car for what it is when you are buying it!
    Another thing is range. I had a Renault Zoe 52kWh about four years ago and I could get 180-200 miles per full charge. EVs are still boasting about 200-250 mile ranges years later. In other words, buying a used EV could be a better idea fpr your needs.

    If you care about your economy, you might give a bit of consideration to buying a car manufactured in China. This is easily the fastest way to kill European jobs and funnel more money up to the rich at the expense of laborers. Now... I have no problem with Chinese workers just trying to put food on the table, or global economies in general... but corporations are taking advantage of Chinese workers' low pay and inability to fight for better working conditions. Most of these workers are essentially forced to work a 996 schedule, which is a huge deal.
    For those that don't know what 996 is (you've probably heard the term in passing).... it's 12 hour work days (9am to 9pm / 9pm to 9am), 6 days per week. It allows the company to get away with running a 24 hour factory with two 12 hour shifts instead of three 8 hour shifts like they would do in Europe or the US, cutting their employee count by 30%. 996 is a 72 hour work week, every single week. That's 80% more hours per year than what Western workers put in. Add that in Germany, auto workers may get up to 35 days of vacation per year. In the US, it may be 20+ days. In China, the workers get 5 days of vacation. FIVE! Meanwhile, a Chinese worker who's putting in 80% more hours than Western workers is only paid about 15% the annual wages. On an hourly basis, that's closer to 10%. So they're essentially worked like slaves, for slave wages.
    Yes, Chinese workers can change jobs, but when the only jobs are factory jobs, and most of the factories are running the 996 schedule, then is there really any choice? You're a slave to the nation's industrial labor practices. Also, with government monitoring of citizens, do you really want to be the worker that hops between factory jobs, or rocks the boat in terms of workers rights and pay? There have been cases of small labor strikes in China... to put those strikes down, the workers were beaten... harkening back to the early 20th century corporate antics in the US.... Is this what we want? A race back to the bottom?
    Does this sound like good work life balance? Corporations, often WESTERN corporations, are using this cheap labor to build cars, export them to higher cost of living European nations for much higher prices than they could get in China, all to drive up their profit margins and transfer wealth upwards from the customers to the ultra-wealthy. Higher profit margins means less money circulating back into the general economy through well paid local labor. So Europeans are not only sending a huge chunk of money to China adding to their trade deficit, but most of that money is going to the wealthy executives and shareholders of the company; not to the labor. Cool, you think you're getting a great value on a car... but what you're actually doing is removing wealth from your middle class, and it's eventually going to get back to you. Do you think you can just remove millions of auto workers jobs in your country and think it's not going to impact YOUR wages whether you work in the auto industry or not?
    Tesla is the company most responsible for this practice, making up something crazy like 50% of all Chinese vehicle exports; most of which are flooding to Europe. All Teslas being sold in Europe come from China, and Europeans are buying them up as fast as possible! Polestar is doing the same thing, only lacking in terms of scale. Their only plant is in China, and they're exporting a large percentage of their vehicles to Europe.
    People, wake up. You have to consider where your products are coming from and how it impacts your local economy, the world economy... and that's before getting into the environment. Briefly I'll just say... over 60% of all the energy China generates comes from coal. If they take over the auto industry, it's going to require a LOT more energy production, and most of it's going to come from expanding their coal plants.

    1) With the slightly raised body, those with arthritis can get in and out easier.
    2) Plenty of cubby holes for your Werthers Originals and ear/nose hair trimmer.
    3) The clip on the windscreen is for your bus pass.
    4) Plenty of boot storage for your Sunday visit to the garden centre.
    5) Hidden storage in the armrest for false teeth, dentures, Seabond and Anusol cream (don't confuse those last two).
    6) Other storage for folding walking sticks and larger walking aids.
    7) Front and rear parking sensors and rear camera for those that have difficulty moving their heads.
    8) LED lights to aid those with bifocal glasses. You will blind every other driver, but who cares.
    9) The car remembers all the long trips. From the weekly trip to the supermarket and coffee shop, to garden centres, all of three miles away.
    10) Seven second 0-60 is ideal for those with cervical spondylosis.
    11) Wipe down seats for all those accidents.
    12) Driver aids like lane departure for those with visual impairments.
    And to cap it all, at those prices only those with fat private pensions can afford them.

    I've had my 2021 Launch Edition (DMLR) for a bit over a year and do NOT regret my decision (am in the USA). I test drove the Tesla Model 3 first and while that was a great EV and is arguably better for frequent road trips due to its legendary efficiency and fast and convenient charging network, I still believe that the Polestar 2 is a much better CAR. I almost never go on road trips and charge nearly 100% at home, so those Tesla advantages are nil for me. The latest OTA update brought the long-awaited CarPlay which I appreciate, but I'm surprised at how little I missed as an iPhone user because the Android Automotive OS in the car covered most of those functions from day 1 without CarPlay. The car is seriously fast and fun to drive, yet practical. I use that boot separator almost every time I go shopping and the Curry Hook works great for safely bringing home take-out during COVID. Yes, it's not a perfect car (nothing is) but for me the advantages far outweigh any niggles and the design really sets it apart from the bland and far-too-common Teslas that are now as commonplace as the Prius was.

    Thanks for a great video. The EV market currently is massively exciting with a range of vehicles and trims within those line-ups to suit most people currently looking .
    I’m in the UK (North East) and have just taken delivery of the Genesis GV60 and for someone looking for an SUV with a luxurious feel , a mountain of tech, great charging speed and range the RWD Premium GV60 with appropriate options packs could be the ticket.
    I opted for the Innovation Pack (for full driver assists and collision avoidance including HUD, adaptive LED headlights, blind spot monitoring and full surround cameras and 3D representation )
    The Comfort Seat Pack (for full front electric seats and electric steering wheel adjustment convenience including ventilate and heated seats)
    2nd Row Comfort Pack (for laminated rear glass, rear heated seats and manual rear side blinds)
    Nappa Leather Seat Pack ( for suede and leather interior including suede roof lining)
    B&O sound system
    Sunroof
    Outdoor Pack ( for Vehicle to load)
    Yes you don’t get something for nothing but with only a £2K premium over a AWD Kia GTLine S and the loss of AWD and compromise of 19” over 20” wheels it’s a compelling choice. Comparisons with the huge price tag of the Tesla Model Y also have to be made.
    You pays your money and makes your choice.
    And the point is great choices are coming to market all the time.

    Good review, nice car. I recently did test drive from polestar dealership in Sydney. 1st impressions were great where we decided to hire the polestar 2 for a couple of days through Hertz to get better feel longer distance. Overall we were not disappointed but a few areas which could be better but not necessary a deal breaker from our perspective. 1. The indicated range on the car was 540 km but we never got higher than 390km when fully charged, couldn’t be sure but we suspect the car was standard 2 wheel front drive, not the extended range battery or all wheel drive. Also interesting when charging recommendation on charge display to charge up to 90% to preserve battery, so guess that further restricts range compared to laboratory test figure’s therefore real world figure at best was 390kms. For the car given it’s size the driver an passenger front seats although comfortable should have more space where centre console between seats cramped the driver & passenger which gave the feeling of being hemmed in. The car we had with sunroof was nice but lack of headroom entering & exiting the vehicle was annoying where you had to duck to avoid hitting head, me being 5’8 that shouldn’t have been a problem. Lastly no idea why but high transmission/ raised section on floor middle of back seat, kind of got in the way, not sure why that was there ! Overall still the car was still really good but before shelving out around $85k on road you would still want to address usability and ergonomics, that said the car and quality was top notch. Still serious about buying but in that price range got to do homework. Ps polestar bringing out updated model year end 23, rear wheel drive and longer range so not really worth buying before unless it’s I want now. Hope this helps anyone looking.

    • @TB-up4xi
      @TB-up4xi ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope that would be right - despite the claims of Polestar the long range single motor has a shorter real life range than a standard range Tesla Model 3 RWD, furthermore the Model 3 with the LFP batteries recommends charging to 100% every day of you can, the Polestar recommends no more than 90% and 80% if you can. The last 20% of the charge on the Polestar takes longer than the first 80%, on the model 3 the last 20% takes.....20%.
      The transmission tunnel is a legacy of the platform. It is actually an XC40 petrol chassis underneath fitted with battery cells - hence the hump. The polestar 2 version II for delivery in late 2023/ early 2024 will no longer have the tunnel - it will use a dedicated BEV platform.

    I have also become a huge fan of my Polestar 2 (September 2021) too. To me it is mostly the easy driving. One-peddle drive + enough power for any situation + nice steering + all of the safety gear. That just makes it a pleasure to drive. If I should point to some anoing things it would be the bunch of little issues with the software. The profile switching is sometimes flaky. The radio sometime requires a reboot of the center console to play any sound or to find the stations. And the trip computer window is a pain to get rid of again. But the nice software features by far outweigh the bad ones.

    I drove this vehicle for 3 days and would not switch my Tesla for it. I liked the acceleration and outside style def was not bad. But that was about it. The inside was so limiting in space, it felt like I was in a smaller vehicle. I found the OS to be quiet basic as well. It is a good vehicle and for anyone looking to get into an EV this is great. But given the option, I prefer Tesla.

    Just test drove one in Toronto, Canada. Drive itself was nice with a dual motor version with pilot and plus packages added on. The optional ventilated seat didn't feel very cool even at its highest setting. It's a bit too tight inside for my size at 6'2". With the driver seat adjusted to my preferred position, there was virtually no foot room under the front seat. The lack of heat pump on a base trim in Canada is a big negative in my books. New Model 3 in Canada has heat pump included, albeit at a higher price that takes it out of the $5K Federal incentive range. I wish KIA Canada would take orders for EV6 already!

    One thing that I found annoying was the process of ordering/ what packages you get. I come from owning sportier BMWs, so I thought id get the awd with the performance pack, and then just pick what extras I want to my liking. Turns out compared to BMW, Polestar has very basic customizability when it comes to extras, you have 3 packages, no way of getting specific things from one package. A bit sad, but also a great way to make you spend 6k more than you wanted

    In watching this video I wondered if you have ever driven another EV? In my search I drive many EV’s before purchasing a 2022 Tesla Model Y Performance. If the charging networks were all as good as Tesla’s my list would have been. 1. Mercedes EQS 2. Tesla Model Y Performance 3. Hyundai Ionic 5. I drove the BMW,, the polestar, the Kia and my top three and my top three. I’m surprised you listed quality as one of the reasons you have purchased a polestar. I found the polestar and the BMW to be a very poor quality. Just my thoughts by the way you are most beautiful!

  • @davidbarrett590

    It is all very well you saying this but the Polestar 2 is very unreliable; the assistance is dreadful and the quality is indifferent. I tried to insure my Performance version with Polestar's own insurance (which is supposed to provide extra benefits that cannot be procured from other insurance) and they refused to insure it on the basis that they do not have an adequate safety record. A Polestar engineer told me off the record that the quality is not up to Volvo standards and that is why they have created a new mark. They are not built by Volvo. Look at the many forums on the web of Polestar drivers here in the UK, the US and Canada and all say the same.

    Waiting for the Polestar 02 Roadster, well that and I don’t have £52,600 sitting in my bank account at the moment.
    It’s either this or a model 3 after I’ve saved up, but a downer for me with the M3 is I don’t like one pedal driving, my opinion is drivers will subconsciously become accustomed to lifting their foot to slow down which is dangerous when instinctively reacting in emergency conditions, plus getting my bike in the boot of a M3 would be a clart-on combared to the Polstar’s big hatch back. Still not enough protection on either of them to prevent minor car park damage / parking knocks etc which annoys the hell out of me when spending £50k on a functional tool to be used in a world full of selfish idiots and morons.
