Many do become ordained but the attachments, defilements are too much and they struggle with renunciation. There are a great many older monks and nuns who have been in robes for decades.

Confessions are a part of Buddhism. Buddhism is about compassion and Sila - morality and Dana, giving. Not blind faith in a Superego outside in the mind's imagination that will save us, but acceptance of all of life without hate, greed, delusion and foundation of Mindfulness. You fear because you are identified as human with a divine overlord outside self that you project your desire and fear onto and conversely beg for personal blessings according to your animal nature - Buddhism embraces the human with compassion, Metta, there is no room for hate and guilt, shame here. You can not comprehend a reality of complete peace, Nibanna, you believe you must earn via the personality identification as a separate being. This is not the path of self flagellation, why would you encourage anyone to a path of hate and delusion, and not peace? There is no war here, its all in your own mind - the Buddha can help you.

I noticed many monks are very young. Does that mean many young men get ordained but don't stay longer than a few years?
it varies - some stay a short time, some stay 40 or 50 years …..
Some stay for all life,mostly all life if u understand the meaning, u can see a lot of foreign monk in Thailand...from Thailand.
