🇮🇹 Palermo - La Città Tutto Porto
🗺 Oltre 2700 anni di storia incastonati come pietre preziose fra i monti di Palermo e lo splendido golfo. Un mix di culture, arte e architettura che ha creato una città unica nel suo stile, elegante e dal cuore grande.
📹 Questo video comprende alcuni spezzoni che ho raccolto durante la mia ultima visita a casa, vedrete infatti che alcune parti sono state girate in giornate diverse. Non volevo, infatti, fare un episodio su Palermo, dato che gran parte dei palazzi e dei musei erano chiusi.
La mia intenzione era quella di fare delle mini storie, ma poi ho cambiato idea, come sempre.
☀️ Ricordo, però, la splendida sensazione provata in quei due giorni. Marina ed io ci siamo sentiti come due turisti a casa nostra, in un caldissimo weekend di fine agosto.
Zaino in spalla e via a macinare chilometri partendo dall’Albergheria, passando per Porta Nuova con le sue armature tirate a lucido, il Palazzo Reale splendido anche quando non aperto al pubblico, la Cattedrale che sembra infinita.
Tutto Corso Vittorio Emanuele percorso a piedi, cercando zone d’ombra e trovando sollievo nel Mandarino Bibite Polara, una delle mie bibite preferite.
Pranzo al fresco tra gli ombrelloni dello SciúRum - Restaurant & Lounge, una pasta alla norma talmente buona che ricordo (e rimpiango) ancora oggi.
E poi ancora il Teatro Massimo, il più grande teatro lirico d’Italia, il Politeama, Via Ruggero Settimo e Piazza San Domenico trasformate in bellissimi salotti. E una sosta alla Vucciria, che fa sempre bene.
🛫 Il giorno dopo Monte Pellegrino, Mondello, Barcarello, Sferracavallo.
Isola delle Femmine che ci salutava da lontano, sapeva già che era tempo di separarci, ancora una volta. Un aereo ci aspettava, a poche ore di distanza, per riportarci a Cork.

🗺 A piece of history 2700 years long, a jewel at the centre of the Mediterranean wrapped between the mountains and the sea. A big mix of cultures, art and architecture has created a unique blend that still stuns visitors and locals alike. An elegant city with a big, big heart.
📹 This video is a small collection of footage I got during my last visit home, some parts were shot on different days, mainly because my intention was to create mini stories on Instagram.
But then, as usual, I changed my mind.
☀️ I still clearly remember how Marina and I felt during that hot August day: Two tourists in our own city.
We grabbed our bags and went straight down to the city centre, starting our marathon from the Albergheria, one of the oldest areas of Palermo, then through Porta Nuova and its shiny armours, the splendid Royal Palace and the Cathedral, that looked huge as always.
We felt the heat walking down Corso Vittorio Emanuele and were looking for any little corner to get some relief from the sun, while drinking our favourite Bibite Polara Tangerine drink (see how Palermo and Cork are similar? We have our own Tanora here!)
We had lunch at the SciúRum - Restaurant & Lounge, that Pasta alla Norma was just delicious.
And then down again to the Massimo Theatre, the biggest opera house in Italy, the Politeama, Via Ruggero Settimo and Pizza San Domenico that looked fantastic without cars around. And we stopped by the Vucciria, obviously.
🛫 The day after we hit Mount Pellegrino, Mondello, Barcarello and Sferracavallo.
From afar, Isola delle Femmine (a small island called Island of Women, visible from many angles of the city) was waving at us. Isola knew that it was time to say goodbye, once again. Just a few hours after we were boarding a plane that took us back to Cork.
