I used to play by ear when I was a kid and now I've picked up a piano several decades later. This video is amazingly helpful and fun! THANK YOU! Don't listen to the complainers.
that has gotta to be the best video on how to teach someone any song, because you don't stop and talk and blah blah you just slow it down and show the chords. BEAUTIFUL
@Jusala12 That's two B-bassnotes with your left hand, and the right hand: A-Cis-E (A-chord), then A-Cis-Gis (Amaj7-chord), then A-Cis-Fis (A6-chord), I hope that helps!
wow, this really is fantastic, thank you so much I've been working on this and I had most of the basics, but thanks for showing me some of the nuances in the sus chords and the descending stacks in the opening.
Excuse me for correcting you, because the song is definitely in B major. Notice the beginning chord of the chorus and also the end of the song! The D# is actually a D#m, wich is the third on the B major-scale. So the chords used in this song are: the root B, the third D#m, the forth E major, the fifth F# major. And there are some slashchords like E/G# and D#/A# and of course some variations like D#sus4 and F#sus2.
Hi it's a great tuturial, no need for spoken comments as fas as I'm concerned. One remark. In the last chorus Bob sings "Tell me why I don't like, I don't like, I don't like mondays" in the middle of it. The chords are the same as for the verse. I think you accidentally left it out. Thank you very much for the rest. Can't wait to scare my boss with it at our next employee meeting ;-).
i don't understand one letter of the ones you typed, but i was able to copy it 'till 0:40 by ear but could you please tell me how to get further cuz i can't get any further
@tybites4 its always nice to be able to finger correctly!! thanks for this i picked it up really quickly and have amused family and friends with it already!
video tuts are sometimes better than sheet music because they give a visual representation of how something should be played. I.e. if you are a novice you can easily see where you went wrong. You can also get a picture with the key notes on it. That's how I learn to play on the rare occasions I do.
It's really good. I like this song! Could you send me the scene, please, because there is something what I can't see on the video... I would like to learn it, it's a great song. Please help me!
@TravelerKM The fact it's described in chords is even harder, that stuff is self taught!!!! Sheet music or plainly saying the notes is easier by far!!! Beginners, seriouslylearn sheet music if you want a good success at playing :)
is it really necessary to go so fast? I can't follow it no matter how many times I watch it and pause it and try to see what key goes when! Please help me!
I think this video is great! And yes, it's difficult for a beginner, but then again, this song is not for beginners. It's way to much, but for me as a pianoplayer I managed to see what this guy is playing, but even for me it took a while to figure out what exáctly he is playing. For example the text is not very accurate. Anyway, thanks to this video I can play the whole song now, but I advise beginners to start with an easier song.
I can't read music but I can eventually learn to play something on an instrument by ear. Not really very professional but I've not yet found the drive to learn an instrument properly. If I could it would be either piano, violin, drums or guitar. Preferably all of them but I'd need more than one life to be great at them all. Anyway the "natural talent" speech wasn't sarcasm aimed your way, I worded it wrong I think I meant in the sense of those weird child prodigies I'm somewhat jealous of.
Since this is in B the black keys should have their "sharp" names. Your subtitles keep switching from # to b. A bit confusing. I did like the way you played straight through under tempo.
you have a point ... i'll see if i can see lol two low E's and she plays with the right hand E Ab And B then just the E major with a top E ok :D i didnt know that either :P but now i do xD
I'm a beginner and I got this down to the chorus. You'll always be a beginner if you're not willing to work and practice a LOT. And anyone who says "slow it down" ... you do know there's a pause button right? At first I'd pause it every three notes, then six, then twelve. Figure it out ppl
ik speel van m'n 6de klarinet en ik ga wanneer dat klaar is pas piano volgen in de muziekschool. ik wou volgend jaar al doen maar ons ma wil da ni... 5de jaar middelbaar en dan mijn laatste jaar klarinet.......
For everyone who's saying "This is too difficult for a beginner" take a look at the sheet music. IT'S NOT WRITTEN FOR A BEGINNER!!!! Stop trying to cheat your way through by finding out how to play it on youtube. Get lessons and practice like everyone else. This is great help if you can read music, but need some help with the beat. Again, don't be so damn lazy!!!!!!! this was very well done, and fits its purpose.
You really need to make sure you are clear on your minor or major chords because that could throw someone off, on the chorus you missed the Ebminor and the Abminor
Ha ha, of course it's not easy for a beginner. It's not a beginner song. It's gonna take time to get to this level so just play the damn piano and some day you'll be able to play this. The sooner you start and the more you practice the sooner you'll be play this.
Dude well played, BUT nobody can Interpret this. You can't make the title "How to" as all you are doing is playing it. You actually need to show the keys individually. And slower.
With the Chords and pause/rewind feature, if you can't get this, you should just give up now trying to learn anything from TH-cam -- go seek professional help.

Nicely done. I've been playing this for a long time, but always in C, just because it seemed easier. Thanks for posting it in the correct key.
thanks. this is just what i need. as a beginner when it comes to music reading the sheet music hardly helps me. to see it played has helped me greatly
Thanks heaps. A friend and I had the intro sorted but were stumped on the verses and chorus. This was a huge help.
wow, this really is fantastic, thank you so much
I've been working on this and I had most of the basics, but thanks for showing me some of the nuances in the sus chords and the descending stacks in the opening.
I play a lot of piano, lots of by ear lets say, this is a good job. I play this song too, its tough, don't let anyone beat you up. Great one.
Excuse me for correcting you, because the song is definitely in B major. Notice the beginning chord of the chorus and also the end of the song! Excellant tutorial...thanks from The Boomtown Rats hometown - Dublin, Ireland.
Your right, I never was good at the PLAYING part but i could listen to something and play it eventually.
Those are all E chords, just in different inversions, the first is E-G#-B, then B-E-G#, then G#-B-E, hopefully that helps, happy playing!
LOVE this song! Sad, but beautiful...
@TravelerKM Who said it was for beginners? If you are a beginner, get the official sheet music, which is a dumbed-down version, very easy to play.
Hi it's a great tuturial, no need for spoken comments as fas as I'm concerned. One remark. What a clever song - i never realised how difficult it was. Did Bob write this with someone??? Mikey xx
It´s a Gb-chord (Gb-Bb-Db), followed by an E-chord (E-Ab-B), does that answer your question?
i don't understand one letter of the ones you typed, but i was able to copy it 'till 0:40 by ear but could you please tell me how to get further cuz i can't get any further
@tybites4 its always nice to be able to finger correctly!!

This helped me so much...I thank you for the upload
Now to go practise it like...1000000000000000000000 times :P
It's really good. I like this song! Could you send me the scene, please, because there is something what I can't see on the video... I would like to learn it, it's a great song. Please help me!
@TravelerKM I could follow it very well :) there is a pause button you know.
hey do you have notes for this? transcribed for piano just like you played it ? :)
I was looking on Your site but seems it isn't there. :(
@TravelerKM The fact it's described in chords is even harder, that stuff is self taught!!!! Sheet music or plainly saying the notes is easier by far!!! Beginners, seriouslylearn sheet music if you want a good success at playing :)
i keep forgetting ive actually seen this but still FANTASTIC :)
it is gr8 , i would have loved it to be slow, but thats just me :D great job i just think i am tired.. i'll play it tomorrow, favourite and subscribed
can someone tell me what notes are being played by the left hand at :23 - :29?
Great now I know that YOU know how to play it- well done. This helps me how?
beautiful. I will get this down.
dude you need to do another video of this because i would really like to play this song but you need to go over it and tell us the keys and stuff
is it really necessary to go so fast? I can't follow it no matter how many times I watch it and pause it and try to see what key goes when! Please help me!
very good & thanks for the effort, I appreciate
Awesome, that was excellent
i need to learn those chords. any websites?

hey do you have notes for this?
@TravelerKM this isnt the least bit a beginner song...
man why does everyone in us uk or any other country reads notes with letters i've always learned it with do re mi it's so confusing
Wow! Thanx! Gotta get right on it!
It's an E-chord with two E-notes (E-Ab-B-E).
@TravelerKM indeed it is!
sorry to correct you, but in the 2nd inversion it is a Ebsus4 and then a EbMinor:).
But nice video, and thanks..
Since this is in B the black keys should have their "sharp" names. Your subtitles keep switching from # to b. A bit confusing. I did like the way you played straight through under tempo.
waarom dan pas? ik heb gwn op mijn eige begonne en speel nu 1.5 jaar of hebt ge misschien nog geen piano?
On the verse, the second chord is Ebminor
, not major
what do you play at 0:34?????????!!!!?!?!?!?
you have a point ... i'll see if i can see lol
two low E's and she plays with the right hand E Ab And B then just the E major with a top E
ok :D i didnt know that either :P but now i do xD
your good at this amazing vid
e major ?
Well some people just don't have natural talent. Don't worry if you stick with it and work hard I'm sure you will be great.
THanks very much Nesh.
can somebody tell where can I get notes?? :)
I'm a beginner and I got this down to the chorus. You'll always be a beginner if you're not willing to work and practice a LOT.
And anyone who says "slow it down" ... you do know there's a pause button right? At first I'd pause it every three notes, then six, then twelve. Figure it out ppl
someone could send me the score?
thank you very much
or i prefer where they highlight the keys.
Its not very clear to be fair, please do a highlighted key version please
yep its not that accurate for a tutorial but it was really useful for me or people who use the ear to play :D good job anyway \m/
Just a litte thing: I thought this song is in B major? So it isn't e.g. Eb -> It's D# and so on
IT'S ALL BLACK NOTES!!! Fingers what were you thinking. I've got the manuscript and I didn't get it. Thanks a lot - I mean it. Great job

can you read it, or should I 'translate' it? :P
You really need to make sure you are clear on your minor or major chords because that could throw someone off, on the chorus you missed the Ebminor and the Abminor
I consder this an excellent tutorial, thanks!!, if any one is interested in a little slower I tried one check it out>

Thanx! My boyfriend will love this video as he is a keyboard player
a tutorial is an explanation/ instructions which this isn't. If you want to see a real piano tutorial look at any of pianojohn113's videos

Take it away Bob
Nanook8830
@TravelerKM
unlike you, we're not all beginners. it's perfect for me, an intermediate, if you want.
i wish you could have writtent he notes a little clearer
that's why they show it you're right they won't be able to read music that is why they don't have music
Now cause you are smart and I am stupid, could you make another video where you can play this but sloooowly : )

Ha ha, of course it's not easy for a beginner. It's not a beginner song. It's gonna take time to get to this level so just play the damn piano and some day you'll be able to play this. The sooner you start and the more you practice the sooner you'll be play this.
en ge moet ni vertale ze ik kijk gwn naar toetse ken het al half
The song is in B major, I think, but I learned it in C. It's easier.
search the chords on the internet. You can take your time then
ey hij zij ook van belgie
Dude well played, BUT nobody can Interpret this. You can't make the title "How to" as all you are doing is playing it. You actually need to show the keys individually. And slower.
Yea he is patrick dempsey hahah
With the Chords and pause/rewind feature, if you can't get this, you should just give up now trying to learn anything from TH-cam -- go seek professional help.
more of you just playing it slow than a tutorial
there are people who can't afford them
:p
gudd
but 2 hard to see the chords nd urs dnt make sense.
Lol
This really isn't the least bit helpful to a beginner.
