A perfect complimentary match, beautiful presence with joy and ease and command of your instruments. Your hands, beautiful to watch dance, making the drum sing so beautifully with so many colors and sounds. Again pleasing the the eyes and ears. A favorite!
Beautiful. I can't help notice that the notes sound slightly out of a-440 tune, like an Oud, and noticed that he has inserted to 1/2 step frets in his neck------brilliant modification!
Hi paola, thanks for your warm feedback! Itamar and myself are on tour at the moment in Germany playing his music! And about coming to brazil to marry you... well, its abit to fast for me, i dont tend to marry women before the 2nd youtube comment..:) good luck!
5 years later here I am. This song is the one I always listen when I need emotional support, it always calms me down, since then and surely years ahead too. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, thank you!
at 2:07 its Chord over melody using quarter steps. I've been searching all of youtube and this is the only performance I could find that does that. if anybody has any performances like this please share. I'm very interested.
This is wonderful! I love all the different tones that you get from your drum... it has the diversity of a tonbak but it's a doumbek, right? Are you able to get such a sound through a low tuning and a non-plastic drum head? The guitarist is also excellent; it's neat to see the extra frets that he can use to get quarter tones.
Dear Yshai and Itamer, this is one of the best videos I have ever encountered on youtube over more than a decade of watching (10s of songs a day, if not more). I have to ask something I just can't figure out: are you doing fast clusters of 3+3+4 at 2:30, 3:05, 4:11, and 6:33? Thank you so very much!
Wonderful! I am a huge admirer of your compositions Yshai! They are deeply musical and even though your technique is tremendous, you never overuse it. A lesson for many musicians, in all genres.I play bass, tombak and a lot of other percussions and I came across this video a year ago, noticing that your doholla was a wooden one. I never bought a clay one because I am often travelling on my bike with my instruments and clay is way too fragile for that. Where did you get this doholla? By the way, I sincerely think you're a great human, regarding your consistent replies to most of the messages addressed to you. I wish you all the best, from the bottom of my heart!
Dear Nethan, Thank you so much for your warm words.. this doholla was made by an israeli maker based in india - called "Drum walla". however it has been modified after i purchased it. i got drum maker Eli Huli to replace its original plastic skin and bolts mechanism head with a wooden rim and put a Hassan El magid goat skin on it that i had. there is a darbuka maker in canada who makes very nice wooden darbukas.. i forgot his name, but i tried his instruments in a shop while on tour in vancouver.. I tour with clay all the time and its always a risk, so a wooden one that sounds good is a good think to have too.. i hope this helps a bit. blessings and thanks again!
impressive ! Yshai, which doholla you are playing on this concert ? I'm looking for one,and this one is really nice sound! If you can tell me really helpful. Thank you.
Congratulations, you are such a talented percussionist. I would like to ask you what kind of cymbals do you use? They just sound so mild and deep... keep with the excelent work ;)
Yshai - do you know itomar doari? your styles are so similar! you have great technique - love it! i have a technical question: when you do the really fast notes with either (or both) of your hands I see them moving left to right sort of like a tabla technique - are you going back and forth between your pinky and thumb? or what? i can't quite see it. its too fast!
0 dislikes and watching the performance i understand why! AMAZING performance there. i cant even come close to you guys haha. BTW, is that a zerbagali? and how did you mic it? one mic or two?
What kind of percussion instrument is that? It looks like a hybrid between a Darbouka and a Tombek and sounds like a high pitched, tight skinned Djembe. I want one.
The guitar part is not tuned in 12 equal temperament, is it? It sounds "strange" to me the way microtonal music sounds "strange." (I've listened to 12 equal temperament music my whole life, so anything else ties my brain in knots.)
I was silently wishing this video to never end
so happy to hear!
Oh! So that's how you do a closed ka! 😉 Thank you for the divine performance and inspiration dear teacher!!

Spectacular performance and recording. I love it when drummers slide their hands across the drum head to create a brushing sound!

Hey pedro thank you for your warm comment!
I use here 12" and 18" soultone cymbals and a 16 hhx crash
che alguno sabe la afinación de la guitarra??
Me gustaría saber qué afinación lleva esa guitarra. ¿Alguien puede decírmelo?
Parece la standar, pero tiene divisiones en los trastes dos y cuatro creo, por eso da cuartos de tono o algo así.
Parece ser microtonal
We need tabs!
