Earnhardt History with Aunt Cathy

  • Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kelley Earnhardt-Miller's aunt Cathy joined them on The Dale Jr. Download. Cathy gives a personal look into details about Ralph Earnhardt's health and the heart attack that caused his untimely death in 1973. She explains how seeing the shop door closed behind the house was crushing. After Ralph's passing, Cathy talks about how her brother, Dale Earnhardt, used his iron-clad work ethic to create opportunities to race. He was a self-made racer that eventually made it to the pinnacle of the sport. That success on track came at the cost of his family life.

    Good lord that was a good one, tough to watch, but a good one. I lost my grandaddy, my dad and my granny over the past year, so I can relate to what she was saying/feeling. Man it's tough and seeing how emotional it can make you all those years later. Strong woman right there, strong family for sure.

      I think this story is a seminal moment in Dale's life that we the fans never really knew about that informs a lot about his personality. Like Cathy said, it changed him and made him bitter, and it doesn't seem like he fully got over it until well in to the 90's.

      There's obviously more to the story. The idea that she left him because he "smelled like grease" is laughable.

    Hearing stories like this goes a long way toward healing some of the open wounds Teresa left on so many of Dales's fans when he died. A lot of us needed some closure but it wasn't in Teresa's heart to let that happen. So even after 21 years, family stories like these make Dales fans feel closer to him and get a little of the closure that they need.

      Anthony Nelson, Teresa is an evil greedy witch. She won't even allow Earnhardt family members to visit Dale Sr's grave or Dale Sr's property. She even won't allow Dale Jr, and Kelly, to have personal items that still belong to them.

    Best episode ever! The fact that this one was all family is special in itself! I’ve been a fan of Kelly since her racing days, and have always felt that she has been an “out of sight” force that has guided Dale Jr. to the successful career he’s had, and she probably still does! I’d like to see an episode on just her story!

      I too lost my dad in 1991, he was only 51 and I was 26. It destroyed our family as well, he was our rock and protector. It hurts just as much today as it did then. Aunt Cathy was able to put words to how I have felt all these years. it was hard to hear but it helped me too. I think Jr & Kelley benefited by learning new things about their dad that may give them comfort by looking at a few things with a different viewpoint.

    Aunt Cathy, I too had a father who had heart attacks before they could do bypass and stents. I was just a little girl he was 37. He did live till he was 64 years old. I work as an EMT and see so many people helped by bypass and stents. I miss that man everyday. He drove over the road semi trucks but that had to stop after the heart attacks. So I got a stay at home dad, and we were very close. If they they could of fixed his heart when he was young I may of had him around longer. On the other hand I wouldn't of had my stay at home dad.

    I hope Dale never has to go through it but it isn't easy when someone leaves you. When you feel you've lost everything it does change you. I can't imagine the losses he took and still had so much focus to make the empire he did. Lesser men would have totally crumbled and gone into a spiral of hate and depression. Yet somehow Dale Sr stayed focused and though he may not have been there much he clearly had a dream he made into reality. As much as some of it could be his own selfish desires I imagine he also did it for his family.

  • @rickarra1833
    @rickarra1833 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    One of the reasons Sr. didn't screw things up. His drive, commitment, and single minded blindness to everything else usually based on passion, plus having great people around him

      It came at a cost no doubt tho.....sucks his fate was to pass young like his dad. Could of made up for alot of lost time with his kids and grandkids. Although none of them will ever need or want for anything. Cant buy or replace the love of a father though.

    I don’t know that any two people learn in the same way. Or that school records can really tell you much about someone’s intelligence. The highest & lowest extremes possibly, but for most of us I don’t think it tells us much. On the other hand, some of the most brilliant people I’ve ever known didn’t have more than a few years of ‘classroom’ education. Some not a single day of it. Yet they could solve or build or do… just about anything under the sun. We all know the importance of education. However today, somehow my sense is that we take a fairly narrow look at what ‘an education’ actually consists of. It is so much more than what a young person will encounter in a school classroom. Not to knock classrooms at all, but I think we all might already know that in our hearts.
    From the outside looking in, and in the case of Dale Sr in particular, I can’t even fathom a way in which he could reach the highest of successes in the sport & in business like he did and not be an exceptionally intelligent man. Perhaps not the most ‘emotionally intelligent’ as so many fathers are not, but in so many of the other metrics of intelligence - undoubtedly and absolutely.

    This is Jeff Yoder the ol'broke down scooter tramp, exbiker, Vietnam 🇻🇳 Era veteran and Hearing the story from Jr's aunt Cathy makes the way Jr has handled things even more impressive and makes me for one 1⃣ as a fan of Jr's appreciate all the more the way Jr has carried the weight of being the head of the Earnhardt family 👪 and his wanting to know all he can learn about not only about Sr
