Had the honor of being an art student of Terry at CSU Fresno in the 1970s. Drawing class. First assignment was to 'go outside and draw the sun.' What a course.
I had somehow not heard this record until a few days ago. I'm a big fan of Jerry Jeff, Butch, Townes, etc. but this had somehow escaped my radar. Better late than never!
Terry is one of the greatest songwriters the english language has ever known. He captures people and times in a kind of intamacy you don't see anywhere else. People we wouldn't really know otherwise. It's an incredibly unique style of songwriting with odd wording (things like 'distract her with a crunch, a cracker crunch') that seem very specific... but in execution somehow manage to sound absolutely universal.
I grew up right behind this...was helping Joe from the 1st Tornado Jam on ....And in a sense I draw from this well, although maybe more on the Jay Boy, Joe Ely & Planets end. I guess Darren Welch still has a few dozen of my albums....and I'm still opening doors musically, but I got into tech soon after this and we had crazy ideas like electronic books(not crazy now however) . . . . Hi CJO, btw. We'll have to catch up sometime soon & be a couple of dadburned Lubbock Contrarians....
I didn't know that Terry's wife knew the REAL Rambo.... of course she saved his life about 50 times... if you know, you know... Bukka played on a friend of mine album and was awesome
Yo Terry. Gail Smith, Emily's sister.I was just watching Jo Harvey's story of her career, and I want to say, after Emily died I went to Corpus and drove all along the coast, but not before picking up your album and Jo Harvey's poetry at the Southwest Museum of Art.Loved the album and it really brought back memories. What a courageous talent pair yall are.

I could watch a full length documentary on Terry Allen any day of the week.
Great artists , great album . Heard Amarillo Highway first with the Maines Brothers , real Lubbock magic !
i was listening in a record booth (february 1984) in antwerp (Belgium)
and i. was. blown. away.
it still is one of my favourite albums
of all time
I would absolutely support a kickstarter or whatever for a full-length doc on Terry and this album. Greaet short, either way!
Terry is amazing! I saw him play "Juarez" from start to finish at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago in 2001 or 2002. Phenomenal show!
we need more of this
Terry is the real deal. So glad for these reissues. Only wish this documentary was 2 hours longer.
Eric Lewis oo
Agreed.

What an album! What a talent! "Truckload of Art" is a classic!
Awesome.
Hell of an album to say the very least. There’s something strangely magical about West Texas and thus its music.
When I heard Lubbock on everything, the first time, I thought " Damn, this guys got to be from West Texas!". Great music!
