When I was your age, I would've said "WOW THE SONG FROM FULL HOUSE!" Wise words from a youngin, lol.
the 60s were unique in that its the only decade where the top forty was persistently good. but to really know and enjoy the 60s, 70s and 80s music you gotta hear albums. corporate, top 40, commercial crap is pretty bad at any time except the 60s. r&r wasn't the top 40 of the 50s. radio was still dominated by crooners, orchestras and novelty songs. but the r&r singles of the 50s were great!
i've been an album collector for 40 years and i'm still finding GREAT music from the 50s, 60s and 70s i've never heard. i give YT credit for helping me in that regard. its about all YT is good for. anyway, just thought i'd iffer a little background.
I saw these guys in concert in 1965 in Bratislava, then Czechoslovakia. You cannot imagine what that meant for a fifteen year old boy dreaming of the world outside his bubble.
They came to our village in Germany, all 30-50 of us got the best personal concert you could ask for. Their caterers brought all the food and wine out and passed amongst us, last and best summer there.
I am part Czech. It heartens me to know that rock and roll meant as you as it did to us here in the United States.

I'm 59 years old and I've heard this song a million times. I had no idea it was Manfred Mann. When I think of Manfred Mann I think of their cover of Springsteen's Blinded By the Light (which couldn't sound more different than the original). Shocked!

I was a young boy almost a kid when I heard this song back in 1963.We just ended the primary school and to celebrate our teacher organized a party with her students!! This was the first time I asked a girl to dance and we danced a lot!!!! What a nice time to remember !!!1

I grew up listening to this great music back in the 60s. Wherever my friends and I went one of us always had our transistor radio with us tuned to 77 WABC.
This great song hasn't lost it's impact 57 years after it came out. This video, obviously playing along with their own recording, has a lot more personality than so many groups today. It would be great to hear a live recording of this song, to see if they captured the same sound.

My 45 of this is dated Sep 18, 1964 on Ascot records. It was a white label because it was a "promotional copy not for sale" given to me by my older brother, the New York editor of Hit Parader magazine.

This song was a sensation when it was released. I can remember a little 8 year old singing it into our reel-to-reel tape recorder. Obviously it made a big impression on Bill Murray and Harold Ramis also.
It was actually released by THe Exciters in 1963 (but was crap in comparison probably because it was Motown, but of course Tony “The Northern Soul” Blackburn would have loved it.

Manfred Mann started a two week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Do Wah Diddy Diddy', possibly the first No.1 with a Nonsense Song Title. Also a No.1 in the UK, the song was first released by the US group The Exciters.

that's mr. manfred mann with the beard playing key boards. and klaus voorman, the beatles' artist friend from hamburg, with the glasses playing bass. i saw manfred mann live, in the 70s, in kc on their "blinded by the light" (written by bruce springsteen) tour. the crowd cheered when "doo wah diddy' was played!
in the 60s me and my older sister inherited this record on 45 from my older brother. along with "satisfaction" by the stones, the surfari's "wipe out," "lil red riding hood" by sam the sham and the pharaohs, "96 tears" by ? & The Mysterians, the monkees "i'm a believer, several beatle's singles including "help" and "day tripper" and several others. we played the hell out of these records until 1970 when i started buying and collecting albums on my own.

Paul Jones is one of the best singers in rock and roll! Do Wah Diddy and Pretty Flamingo were huge songs in my neighborhood, in Chicago in the 60's!
