    I think the temperature is responsible for the creatures mutating away from feathers. Flying creatures also move faster, increasing the risk of them flying into uninhabitable zones. In a more uniform environment, they'd probably perform better. There's also not mich of an advantage to be flying because plants are plentiful and can easily be reached from the ground. If you had tall inedible plants with flowers on the top then they'd gain a height advantage. Alternatively, you could have small islands separated by water. Flying would then unlock new food sources.

      Yeah I agree, there's no tangible benefit to flying currently. It maybe more viable if animals that can fly were able to land on branches, and thus avoiding land predators. Or as you mentioned they could fly over to isolated islands.

      Yeah it's a game that regularly gets suggested, I've not played it yet but I intend to.

      I don't think that's currently possible. Although I've spoken to the dev and he's been thinking about adding them sometime in the future.
