I was having problems with my broccoli microgreens after the blackout period. Always without fail, a small portion of my greens would stop growing and become stagnate with a withering look. I checked underneath the tray to see if the roots were brown, nothing there. So I took a chance by adding more water (1 cup, instead of 1/2) to the bottom tray both day and night along with spraying the top. To my surprise, they started growing taller but the part that was stunted didn't come back fully. The funny thing is I wrote down all the steps from beginning to end, including the amount of water to add each day from the video. But I guess it comes down to the environment, lighting, and temperature as they all can vary from house to house. After trial and error, I finally got a good harvest this time around. Sometimes we have to make modifications based on our space and environment. Anyway, I just want to share this as it might help someone who's having the same issue or similar.
Thank you just started my microgreens to add to my perennial/cut flower business for a winter project. Hopefully it takes off for all year around! I have never even heard of Shiso microgreens. Love the color! Many people do not even know what microgreens are in my area, so it will also be challenging to educate customers. 💐
Keep the cooking part of your videos coming! Clients are always asking me new ways to use microgreens and this sounds great. Until my Shiso gets here, I'm going to try it with some radish for a little kick!

I always loved Shiso leaves when it was served with my sashimi, now I have a pack of the seeds due in today so I can grow the microgreens. I love these! Thank you Mandi and CJ for all the effort you guys put in to bring this info to us. 💜🌱 Oh, the onion. I tried all that stuff and it didn't work for me. Bread in the mouth, candle burning, etc. The only thing that works (for me anyway) is I wear contact lenses- no more Niagara Falls when cutting onions
Here in the UK we like egg mayo + cress sandwiches so I usually use my cress microgreens that way. I never really considered mixing them with tuna - nice tip! Love your enthusiasm and joy for what you do

HEY I tried my own Sunnies experiment where I am comparing no soak, soak, and soak + sprout in colander (like True Leaf's videos say to do). I'm getting the same results as you, no soak is turning out the best! Colander sprout works better than soaking alone but no soak is still the best.
I love the incorporation of a recipe! I just placed my order to get supplies to grow my own microgreens, so it'll be great to know different ways to use them.
First..Y'all are awesome! Second..Nobody should buy the microgreens starter kits from Lowes. They suck so bad! I'll just have to find me a space somewhere in this over packed house and do it your way. BUT..I did just get my tomatoes and peppers planted outside so I'm super stoked about that!

I really like the fact that coir changes color. It makes it much easier to know when to water. I have tried Microgreens in a seedling mix along with veggie seedlings. I kept missing dry down because the seedling mix is black wet or dry...
Love the content of this video including the recipe. Put onion in freezer for about 10 minutes and cut from the bottom are both supposed to help with the onion smell. They really affect my eyes too.
I 've seen on occasion ... growers using the 2.5 inch deep trays for certain microgreens. can you explain why ? what method and what crop would benefit from the deeper trays?

Just started my first two trays. I am mimicking your setup with trays, rack, fans, etc. Seeds from Trueleafmarket. Coco Coir is the medium. Following your how to's. Day 5, salad mix looking good so far. Broccoli Waltham 29 day 5 has a softball sized dead spot and lots of visible seeds that did not germinate. I used 28grams as seed density. Maybe that's too much for a beginner. Sad, throwing it out. Starting a new broccoli tray with 25 grams seed density. Lets see how it goes. Quick question, after breaking a coco coir brick down in water it can be quite damp, how damp do you guys have your coco coir when you seed? In this video it looked pretty dry.

I got a Shiloh seeds and I tried many ways to grow them as you do but they didnt germinate and I tried another way by soaking but it germinate just a little of them
Sometimes it can be the seeds. We've had some success with germinating in a pH balanced water as it could be the water that is messing up the germination.
in the "OceanSolution" (2-0-3) what does those numbers mean? the ratio of each one of the components? sorry im kinda bit new to this, altought i enjoy watching this videos a lot, if someone would help me figure this out it'll be much appreciated
one more question, why does some plants needs to be watered under the tray (where the roots are) almost every day, and for example for this, they only get watered on theyr medium or "soil" and only once on the tray of the roots. Hey nice butcher block in your new kitchen! Jealous! There are two tricks that work for onions. One is, if you have a gas stove, cut the onions right next to a lit burner. A candle is insufficient for this job. The other is, take the compost out right away and clean up with 20% vinegar water - Keep a sprayer and wipe your counters & blocks - it cleans, sanitizes and deodorizes.
Sorry to hear you're having trouble! Sometimes it can be the seeds or the water source... too much chlorine and it can kill off the seeds. Try buying a bottle of distilled or spring water and try using that in a spray bottle and see if it helps at all. It could also be what you are growing it on... if you're using a soil or something, try growing them on a paper-towel and see if you are able to get any germination. It can also be temperature... anywhere too cold or with too much airflow can stop or dramatically slow the germination process. Try putting them in a warm spot if possible like near a light source or on a heatmat. We use a heatmat for tricky crops in the winter when the ambient temperature in our growspace drops to 65-73 from the 75-85 in the summer. Hope that helps!!

Don't forget it needs fresh air circulating to get rid of the humidity. Or you can buy a dehumidifier.

I was expecting a Korean or Japanese recipe, like Onigiri or sushi. Shiso is perfect for that.
How frequently do u do sanitation and how?
What do you do with the left-over tray? Do shiso grow again? If so, how many times?
I have a question what do u do with the Coco coir growing medium after the harvest, is it not reusable?

those seeds look like korean perilla based on size alone... shiso is smaller by half, and red-brown in colour
