  • The Fender Stratocaster has been in production continually since 1954. It has been used by countless music legends in just about every musical genre that exists across the planet. It's sound is instantly recognizable and for many people the look and shape of the Stratocaster is synonymous with the electric guitar. The most copied shape in the world, the Fender Stratocaster has remained popular in part due to its sonic flexibility and versatility. The combination of three single-coil pickups and a five-way selector switch can create a myriad of tones from one instrument that makes the Stratocaster an essential part of every guitar players arsenal and often, the only guitar you need! Cooper Greenberg of Alamo Music Center dives into the sounds of the Stratocaster to give you the definitive users guide to the sounds available. To best illustrate the tones from the guitar, Cooper is demonstrating the voice of the guitar through the clean channel of a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. The clean tones are the foundation for the sound that will then be modified through pedals and overdrive, and whatever other weirdness you decide to throw its way. Understanding these tones is essential for getting the most out of your guitar. So, bookmark this video and consider this your users manual for all of the Fender Stratocaster Tones!

  • @russk1971
    @russk1971 2 ปีที่แล้ว +92

    What he didn't mention was the way he manipulated the tone was in where (location) he was picking. Picking close to the bridge always creates a brighter/twangy tone. The closer you pick to the neck joint the warmer/rounder tone you get. Picking with the meat of your fingers is also a way to add bass to the tone. Whether you snap the strings or pluck them with your fingers also has an effect on your tone. The thickness and material of the pick also will change your tone. Many variables can change/color your tone upon any guitar you play including acoustic instruments.

    My favourite setting is NOT there and that is why on my Strat since 1979 I put THREE individual pickup on/off switches (Fender Jazzmaster switches) so I have NINE combinations. Neck and Bridge setting together are my favourite. Then ALL three pickups on together give you just about an exact mark Knoffler sound. Always amazed me why on very old strats only 3 positions were available plus 'in betweens'. Didn't make sense to me even as a 16yr old kid!

Hey, that rhymed! 😂 It's just right 4 me anyways. So when I get my Strat soon, I think I'll remove both the neck and bridge pickups and the pickup switch, so it's just the middle one left!! 😂 Or maybe I'll keep the neck pickup and switch as well, so I can use the 4th and 5th positions, too! 😆*

When I play that verse on my acoustic guitar, it all sounds very thin and frail. Bert plays an electric guitar with a plectrum. Any ideas how he might be achieving such a rich, powerful quality?
