You don’t need an open plot for your first three villagers. I was able to invite Skye before I had any plots. Then I did the three house crafting tasks for Nook and I hadn’t finished them yet before I invited Shino and Jeremiah.

That is next level villager luck to get those on your first 3.
from the second day when the airport open you can villager hunt, but you can only find lazy, normal and peppy villagers, because the firts six of the tutorial have set prsonalitiy, jock sisterly the staters, the 3 house builds tutorial lazy peppy normal and the first campsite is always smug, and then you can hunt for however personality for the remaining 4 slots
when i first played everything except the campsite was like that, my first campsite villager was goldie, i just reset and got olaf though which fits
The way the villager hunt addiction immediately kicked back in when you saw there was a villager on the mystery island 😅
Remember you can use the wetsuit from Nook Miles to get across in the interim!
I believe for the tools diys, like the shovel, you will get it from blathers when he starts talking about the fossils on the island. So glad you are back playing ACNH, can't wait to see the progress for this island :)
You can buy a wetsuit to get to the back of your island before getting a vaulting pole or bridge from Nook Shopping. Also you can invite up to 3 villagers to fill the 3 plots you will place later in the prologue :)

I had an all goat/deer island on my very first game, got bored with it, deleted it, then that massive update occurred..... I was so p'd off 🤣
as others have said, you can absolutely invite villagers at this point, but it'll only be normal, peppy, and lazy villagers for the first three plots that you have to build furniture for. once you complete the plots, they'll automatically say "sold" on them if you've invited villagers beforehand.
so possible squirrels to get for now: sally, caroline, ione, peanut, nibbles, cally, poppy, filbert, agent s, and sylvana.
good luck and i'm happy to see another island from the start! squirrels are some of my favorites, too (on my two islands i have 6 total: ione, poppy, hazel, sally, blaire, and pecan), so i can't wait to see which 10 you choose. :)

You might still had miles left to farm when you were on that island. Getting stung by a wasp, passing out after getting stung, catching fish, catching bugs, catching fish in a row, shaking trees, finding furniture in trees, etc. If you hadn't done some of those and had the tools, you maybe could have gotten some of the blank spaces filled.

there’s a chance you can get more from 30k, but it isn’t worth it to take your chances since most of the time you’ll just get 30k back no matter how hard you try
just stick to 10k

Me too but I really don’t want to lose all of my villagers photos that I worked super hard to get, I have so many photos and it’s took me forever to get some of them (Tom took me over a month, he played so hard to get his photo and I almost gave up)
I coincidentally restarted my island the same time you did!! It was really hard officially saying goodbye to my first playthrough, but I've really been enjoying playing from the begging again too!

I hunted for Ione last month.. she took 1 week 942 NMTs to get... I swore that I would never do it again, but alas I hunted for Petri again and luckily got her after 123 NMTs.
Wow! That's quite some dedication to Petri!
The sad thing was I was also looking for Petri during the Ione hunt and I didnt meet her at all 🥲

I'd love to see the hunts live via TH-cam, Twitch makes my laptop scream sadly which is why I had to stop watching the streams over there. I know you've already set your house and now the shop down but was wondering if you'll be moving them when you unlock terraforming?
The villagers you'll find on your hunts atm will be Peppy, Normal, and Lazy villagers. They're the ones that fill the three house plots you have to build. So, even if you haven't yet placed and built the plots, they'll move in once you ask them to move to the island when the plots are down.
I haven't played AC for a while myself, got burnt out big time but my inclination is growing again, thanks to you.. Looking forward to the next vid already!!! Oh, and if you need NMTs, gimme a shout as I have a fair few in storage you could have to help the obsession and hunt along. xx

Before you work on the three plots, you can get a Villager prior to having them built and when you do get the three plots started, one would already be set for the Villager that you asked to move in prior.

Be careful with your this first 3 plots, they can be autofill if you place the furniture before you invite villagers you want
You can hunt for villagers before you get the three plot task from Tom Nook, they don't replace your starters. Also you get the vaulting pole recipe from Blathers, also the shovel too from memory. Also I'm pretty sure Ione's name is pronounced I-OWN-EE.
I restarted my island on Sunday. I gave Tom Nook the creatures to start the blathers arrival on day one. I have the museum already. You might just need to get going on that. I also gathered the 15 new creatures for blathers to switch from tent to museum building. Yes. Today I did give the boys what they needed for the shop so day 3 I will have that tomorrow. Blathers gives the vaulting pole and shovel recipe. Good luck. Not sure what villagers I’ll end up with. But now I’m grinding for bells for storage needs in the future.

I'm new to the game (only playing maybe 2 months), but I've planted a full stack of 99K and gotten x3 full stacks back. No idea if I was just lucky with timing or if it's a legitimate new change or not.
Ryan you need to donate bugs or fish to Tom Nook to get the museum to get the vaulting pole
