- Over a year ago a follower directed me to what I regard as the best burger in Texas - and I never took The Mrs. Until today

Almost every small town in Texas has a locally owned hamburger joint that is better than any chain. We have Tio Pedro ( Uncle Peter).
That's just one of Bosque County's great dining gems.
I've never eaten at the Horny Toad to compare it to Alamo Springs Cafe next to Old Tunnel State Park, but I can say that Alamo Springs' burgers are unbelievable & they did make Texas Monthly cover years ago as "The Best Burger in Texas." Next time you're in the Fredericksburg area, go check them out. Old Tunnel Bat Flight & nature trails are worth doing, too. I recommend you go early and pay the small fee to get close to the emergence, but you can also just watch them from above the tree line for free. It's definitely a spectacular sight. Alamo Springs also has live music at times. Bikers love this one, too. The drive to the area is quite lovely.

Horny Toads aka Horned Toads are endangered. I used to see them all the time, now you never see them.
That looks amazing. The best places to get burgers are typically small, old style diners. However, one of the best burgers I've ever had anywhere came off an old half-enclosed flat griddle in a bowling alley. Look for small spots, that have lots of vehicles in the parking lot. This place looks amazing, and I'll try it if I'm ever down that way.
There's so many excellent choices in Texas! Ever been to Hruska's in Ellinger? Authentic kolaches for breakfast and the best burgers for lunch and dinner!!
Dangit, you beat me by a few days. I LOVE Hruska's burgers and kolache! And they have the best pickled quail eggs!

My mom was born and raised in Cranfills Gap. Her aunt and uncle ran the one of the last telephone switchboards in Texas there. My family helped build St Olaf’s church in Norse and I’m related to a good chunk of the folks buried there (including my grandparents). Love that area

My #1 place to eat a burger is at Top of the Hill greasy burger in Benchley’Tx you have to try it one of these days. Yum

Oli, can't remember where you guys live, but if you want a GREAT burger, drive down to Ellinger - it's about an hour+ south of Austin down Hwy 71, about 15 minutes north of Columbus. There's a Bohemian grocery there called Hruska's. If you like pickled ANYTHING, they've got it there, too: cucumbers, squash, quail eggs, veggie mix. And they've got great kolache.
I'm going to Meridian State Park on Saturday. I'll hit this place up.

Y'all should try LSA Burger in Denton. Make sure to start out with the Brisket Queso! Pretty sure you will love the place. Especially if you love music and great food in a perfect combination. And while you are there walk the Denton square and stop in at Beth Marie's for ice cream...I recommend the Bees Knees flavor (lavender & honey)! Great shops and a wonderful all around Texas must.
Sounds great our favorite burger is in Houston at a place called Burger Palace near Galleria. But we live west of Austin so not very convenient .

Haven't been there but my favorite in Dallas is Snuffer's . They invented the cheese fries.

Rodeo Goat… its offerings on burgers get out there but trust the process. Every time you look and go “really?” It’s fantastic.
Ditto, I've been all over Texas and Rodeo Goat has some of the best burgers I've ever had. Parking sucks, but if your staying in a hotel near GRB, it's not a bad walk.
