  • When it comes to wiring talent, there are many ways to skin a cat - and there are many tricks and solutions available - no single solution works in all situations! You sound mixers know this!
    You must always look at wardrobe at hand, and the scene that is about to play out to determine the best lav mounting technique. However, here are some tried-and-true mounts and ways I use them that have worked out well for the location sound work that I do. #5 is my go-to if I can get it and the wardrobe is right for it -- otherwise, the other methods work well, too.
    Your results will vary depending on various factors!

    Really good video. Very clear and precise. Have you ever tried the URSA foamies? They are my main go-to solution from drama to current affairs. You can use them in conjunction with the rycote O ring and an URSA under/ overcover to eliminate wind noise without compromising audio quality.

      The foamies always seemed a bit bulky for inbetween the placket of a button-up shirt to me. I can see how using them with a safety pin taped on to attach to a shirt for like a sweaty athlete where adhesive will get damp could be useful but I haven’t made too much use of the foamies besides as spacers on my Tx antennaes. Maybe I’ll give them another look. I’ve def had great luck with Ursa mini mounts and Bubblebee mounts and the over cover/fur sandwich. Thanks for watching!

      @onseteducation921 I have had great results with them. A lot of the freelance sound mixers here (in Ireland) would use them. Great for polo shirts, scarves, and winter wool coats. I find that with the Bubblebee Mount, you can run into problems with men that have "business" shirts that are tight fitting and aren't 100% cotton. Any movement from the contributor will cause you severe problems. As does stubble rubbing on the collar of a man's shirt/ puffa/leather jacket! I always try and use an overhead boom for interviews.

      For sure - which is why the Ursa mini mount with my own added paperclip extension - or the overcover-fur-sandwich are my two go-to low-profile methods. I've also had great luck using the sandwich in scarves as the fur keeps the fabric away from the capsule. I always use a boom, unless the framing is too wide. I'll do some ursa foam tests soon!

    Lav bullet?

  • @alejandropargaa

    are there any lav mic mounts you would recommend for the Tascam DR-10L??

    • @onseteducation921
      @onseteducation921  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I generally would not recommend hiding a lav with the DR10L because you can’t monitor the sound and make tweaks as needed like you can with wireless setups. You’d just be hoping and trusting that whatever you choose works out and you won’t know until after the take when you review it. The DR10L setup is typically best for broadcast clips on the outside of garments for the best sound. But, if you had to use a hidden mount then you might consider a moleskin sandwich and some Joe’s sticky stuff and tape it to skin.

      @@onseteducation921I just use a Bumblebee mount, stick ot inside the shirt, against the skin. Difficult to see, and no clothes rustle.
