    My first checking account was one that my parents set up at a credit union. Prob 15 years ago and tbh i hardly used it. Now after banking with Wells Fargo, Chase, TD bank and Citi( the only bank ive has no real issue with) i recently hunkered down with the Credit union after getting tired of some of the shady fees ive encountered over the years.
    I still keep Citibank as an Emergency account. But 90% of my funds flow through the credit union and honestly i feel dumb for not just sticking to it. Guess i had to learn the hard way.

    There are also shared branching, if your credit union participates in it you can go to any participating credit union and do the basic transactions as if you were at your local branch. Also, Co-op atm system for credit unions is national with no fee.

    Many good points however, many incorrect statements. Possibly TH-cam: best credit unions or top CUs to see get some better insights. I'm a NavyFed, DCU and PenFed member however, there are a few "better" ones depending on what people are looking for or regional benefits/access.

      Local community banks are best for business. Always tie your loans to several banks, so you can swish around the credit.

    My Credit Union does not charge you to have an Account with them or to have a certain big Balance. I only need to keep $25.00 in the Account. That is why I'm with them. And I do have CDs and get paid interest on my Money.

    Thanks a lot for the great information and comparison. I do not mind a lot driving 20 miles to my credit union. In my banking life, I had to used two banks services, one of the wellfargo and the other chase because I had to, but changed in the speed of light a soon as I was able to do so.

    • @TheMoneyResolution
      @TheMoneyResolution  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Contact your credit union and ask. It's certainly possible! Just be sure you understand if there are any fees and what funds you'll have access to.

    Thanks, great TH-cam!
    I’ve been with credit unions for the last 40 years or so. I agree that it’s been much better than using banks. That said, there have been recent problems I’ve run into. I backed the trucker protests, first in Australia, then Canada, then USA. Using my VISA, I contributed to each protest to help defray lost wages & unreimbursible costs. This put me on the “bad boy” list at VISA, which trickled thru to the credit union itself. I receive very childish behavior w/ Visa. I don’t know if the VISA unit is actually part of the CU, or part of VISA. The treatment there @ VISA has made me want to shop around, but I wonder if I’d get the same thing at a different CU. Any thoughts and/or recommendations?

      Board members are nominated and voted on by members. And they don't get paid, they are volunteers.

    Hello, I’m having a little issue with my RBC bank account right now and I thought you could help me. Basically I made a large transfer and got blocked couple of days later. It’s been a month since I’ve been trying to fix the problem now and eventually she told me, she’ll only allow bank transactions for 6 months. So i won’t have access to my online banking or card for 6 months.
    I realized I can’t just open an actual in another big bank because it would just end up the same. Because apparently the other banks and the government can see everything!!!
    So I was thinking about opening a credit union account but I do not know if the same issue will occur.
    Can the credit union I will sign up for have access my Rbc situation?
    and do u have any suggestions for me? Please and thank you

      It depends. Credit unions are very local. Navy Federal and PenFed are two main credit unions that have national reach. My recommendation is look at a credit union's financial statements and check that their asset size is at least nine figures. It means they're more established and can offer more and better services

    If the Catholic Church made a credit union, they could really restore themselves.
