    I LOVE this pared down video format. Watching the WW broadcast is great for the initial watching, but I found that this version is great for watching and referring to while felting.
    The base on the vessel makes it look more “finished” while still organic.
    Thanks😊

    I have done a couple of vessels (more like little pots). Until this video I did not even realize that an open resist would produce the same without having to cut away a large piece of the felt (even though I can reuse in other work and it is not wasted). Thank you for always bringing something new to the table. I will try the open resist felting.

    WIP. My bowl became a bag in blues. Didn't have the fire bowl colors. Used silk as embellishment fibers. Got to the soft felt stage and found that the silks hadn't stuck. Adding wisps of wool over them.

    Yet another amazing tutorial Marie..thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge.. I feel I'm gaining so much from your channel. I live in the UK. I purchase most of my supplies online. When searching for the viscose what name am I looking for? Just searching "viscose" brings up all sorts.. any idea?

    ..Sorry! Hit send too soon.! As I was saying, really happy with the finished product but I have a lot of the black fibres coming thru the colors, should I have rubbed it more before doing the embellishments?

    • @LivingFelt
      @LivingFelt  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      HI Linda, there is always some halo = fibers migrate in all directions. If you are not pleased with the result, try putting a bit more of the embellishment fibers on top.

    For rolling, I thought it only mattered the number of rolls, not the order in which you do them. Is that not the case and why would it matter in which order you roll if the number of rolls ends up the same from all directions?

    • @LivingFelt
      @LivingFelt  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You can "favor" the direction of shrinkage -- so if wool is going to shrink a certain % overall, and you want to shrink it more in one direction, you can control this not only with the direction of the wool, but also by agitating (whether rolling or rubbing) in particular directions FIRST. So on this vessel, we wanted it to hug the sides before rolling from top to bottom because we wanted it to be a little more narrow AND we didn't want it to start scooting off the resist (since it is an open layout vs. 100% covered over the resist)

  • @joanfrazier2971
    @joanfrazier2971 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is there a graph of sorts that shows the percentage of shrinkage?

  • @stephanieroyal3453
    @stephanieroyal3453 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Marie, is it possible to make something much bigger and how would we support the weight of soil if we want to make something like a " felted grow pot?"

    • @LivingFelt
      @LivingFelt  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Not sure how we missed this one. It seems felt grow bags are often used "in" some type of appratus. But if you want it to holds its shape, make it THICKER...consider a more coarse fiber, and make the opening smaller than the circumference.

  • @joyceauclair7853
    @joyceauclair7853 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can this project be done with a short fiber bat to get a more stable vessel? And how many layers do you recommend?

  • @jennifermcmullen_pearson4783
    @jennifermcmullen_pearson4783 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you rinse it between rolling once the resist is out?

    • @LivingFelt
      @LivingFelt  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Blend it with your wool. It will not felt on its own, but you can bring in a little and let the wool trap it down.

  • @helenreidt3315

    Nice tutorial 😊 I notice you using cold water. I only comment because I did a class and the teacher used boiling water right from the beginning..which caused the skin on my hands to peel a few days later. 😢

    • @LivingFelt
      @LivingFelt  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      When we first began felting, HOT water was what everyone used...but over time we learned, you can use room temp. water, you SHOULD use room temp. whenever working with fabrics in your design to slow down the process and give the fibers time to migrate through the fabric. You can use hot water in the fulling (shrinking) phase, but you do not need to burn your hands.

    What would you put in a felt bowl? Ive made a few and some with trees on and ive made all these scarves that arent really big enough for proer scarves some with landscapes and a poppy painting one and just other interesting looking prices but i dont know what in heck to do with them now. Its like a box of chidls drawings. Its not art. Its not craft its not apparell its just felt bits and bobs. And theyre also too mice to throw away but totally without use to anyone.

    • @LivingFelt
      @LivingFelt  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hello @Tinksmeadow ... usually when people tell us this, we find that their fiber is not wet enough. Your water and soap help hold the fibers together while you agitate. They should be wet "through" but not in a soppy puddle. We hope this helps!

    • @devonmccarroll6509

      You might start by doing a small test piece of whatever project you want to do, and that will help with confidence!

    • @carolynsittler4929
      @carolynsittler4929 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don’t be afraid. I have found that wool is very forgiving. I have been felting for less than two months. I started small and am now working on larger projects. If you ruin something just put it aside. You may find an use for it in a later project.
