The worst thing about that incident is that the Okaloosa Sherrif Office made absolutely not effort to identify or course correct the training and instruction to its personnel. I have a few LEO friends and they all said the same thing when I asked them about what happened, 1. that it was embarrassing 2. why? it is too easy to simply close the investigation after pinpointing WHAT was done wrong, but what are the underlying factors that caused these officers to act that way and how will that be corrected. One of them even mentioned the LEO response in Uvalde and made the same observation that poor training and poor leadership could be a common thread, but that we cannot know for certain because the Sherrif closed any further actions after the local prosecutor chose to not pursue the matter once the officer resigned.
Yes, but this is being left out of the news. And that was only about 2 months ago.

Agreed, but how the cop told him to back up and then the cop shot him. That's a calculated execution which leads to this to another level suspicious actions by the cop. SrA Horton opened the door with 1 hand up, 1 hand with weapon down, militarily and law enforcement this indicates weapon down range safe posture. This cop shot him because he was black with a gun, period. All folks need to realize in society that law enforcement aren't problem solvers. People should only call them if they want someone carried away in a body bag. Elected officials have given them that power.
@@kennethyoung8247 dude stop you have no idea what you’re talking about. He was not shot because he was black he was shot because he knowingly answered his door to a cop with a gun in his hand. He brandished a gun to a cop which is a huge no no and the very first thing they teach you in gun safety class. Have you ever been to the range before in the military or a range for law enforcement? When they call cease fire weapons on safe cold range it’s only safe when every weapon is on safety and in there holster. On a cold range no one is allowed to have a weapon in hand period. If you were the cop and you were responding to a domestic dispute which 9 times out of ten always involves some kind of deadly weapon and the door opens and immediately you see gun in hand that close are you telling me you wouldn’t shoot? All it takes is a fraction of a second to raise that gun and boom no more officer.
The weapon was down not up, not a threat to the officer, because the officer first said back up not drop the weapon. If SrA Forton had opened that door with a paper clip in one hand and nothing in the other this cop would have still shot him. It's a simple shoot first ask questions later. And regarding your indication of weapons on range, yep I served military for 30 yrs, was NCOIC on several small arms and crew served weapons ranges, the weapon has to be on safe first and down range, then holstered. SrA Folton weapon was never held as a threat to this officer. Keep the alternate reality to yourself. When on leave traveling down south, there were 3 plain clothes cops that approached me with weapons drawn, all yelling different commands. I froze with hands up. According to your input, I guess I should have listened to one of them and got shot by the other two. The officers were 1 black, 1 white, 1 hispanic. Cops have a tough job to do but not everyone they encounter are criminals first. Our laws are written as innocent until proven guilty not the other way around. SrA Forton didn't know there was a cop on the other side of the door but still he had a right to arm himself if he thought there was trouble at the door. Why did this officer knock twice, only announce after moving away from the view of the peep hole? Simple, to avoid being seen and identified, he wasn't serving a warrant. Pick what you want, this service member was killed by an executioner of Florida Law Enforcement full stop because SrA Forton held a gun at his doorway and due to the color of his skin, if this were anyone else this would not be a conversation. That property owner that led the officer to the apartment needs to be held accountable as well, this should be a federal investigation not state or local, they aren't trustworthy either.
They didn't even offer any condolences to the family, this cop is guilty !!!!!!!!
This one is easy. He never raised his arm. First Degree Murder
Sad to say they won't give it to him because he is a officer.
@@JUNGLEISMASSIVE.Let's just call it what it is and why it keeps happening!😡
While I agree the officer is wrong here this is not first degree murder by definition.
You don’t have to raise your arm to be a threat. Just having it in his hand makes him a threat. Why is that so hard to understand? By doing what he did he actually committed a first degree misdemeanor in Florida punishable by a big fine and jail time. Brandishing a gun to a cop is probably the dumbest thing you could do as a gun owner.

The fact that the cop shouted drop the gun after shooting and killing him is criminal cover up.
I don't care what he was called there for. He shoots the guy before saying a single word. Even if he yelled he was police. People might not hear it or be lying. He moved away from the peephole (and cops can because they have been shot in doorways before) but that also doesn't stop the airman suspicion. Being a police officer in America you have to know people might answer a loud suspicious knock with a gun as is their right. As the police you HAVE to give orders for the gun to be dropped before you can just open fire! Being police you take the risk of something bad could happen, but that doesn't give you the right to open fire the second you see a gun. I think the officer should go to jail for murder! This keeps happening to Americans answering their doors at suspicious times with cops. And it is going to continue to happen with police not getting punished for this type of action!

@@StoneXay Safety should've been to at least make sure you have the correct apartment seeing as though the property manager told him twice that she was unsure of which apartment it was and it sounded like someone was slapped. She did NOT witness anything and after stating she didn't know what door it was she blurted a random apartment number. Safety also should've been to wait for your partner seeing as though DV calls are the most dangerous calls we will ever respond to in our career and every single officer knows this. Safety also should've been to realize you already had the advantage seeing as though your weapon was drawn while the soldier's weapon was still pointed to the ground. Commands are given BEFORE you open fire. We are NOT trained to shoot first and ask questions and give commands after. Sure, things happen quickly but that is where our training should kick in. Safety should've been to also realize WHERE you are policing. In Florida, almost every citizen is a registered legal gun owner so we know that interactions with civilians who are legally carrying are going to happen often. We are people too just like you said but we are TRAINED individuals who took an oath to serve and protect. That did not happen here and it's even worse that the department just won't come out and say "we fvcked up." This is also the department where an officer and a Sgt. opened fire on their own vehicle with a man handcuffed inside because an acorn hit the vehicle and he thought it was a bullet. This was after he searched the man he put in his own vehicle. This department clearly lacks training or they are employing pusse and coward cops. That is dangerous for both; fellow officers and civilians. I understand you support police and we appreciate civilians who do, but we ALL have to be able to acknowledge when we are wrong. Question: Why didn't the Sheriff ask the Apartment complex official to obtain the name of the person and perhaps any pertinent information (ie., Active duty Airman) she knows about the inhabitant of this apartment?
Question: What was the rush, why not wait for backup, why not stand at the door and listen a bit longer to see if there are noises?

Don't you dare call the police for domestic suitation someone will end up dead , just a few weeks ago same thing in NY
A terrible tragedy. The female DEI lawyer needs to remember that all the circumstances matter. Why did he have the gun? Why did he answer the door with it? A tragedy.
Never open the door! Period!
I have always feared being killed this way.
Walking towards a cop with a gun in your hand?
He did what he had on his mind to do
This man told someone step back and then blasted the man SMH!!
The cops are right now looking for dirt on this young man and they are pissed they can't find none.
I agree with the attorney's statement. Citizens at home have the right to exercise caution when opening their door for someone knocking and claiming to be law enforcement but hiding from view from the home resident. Anyone having doubts should put themselves in the victim's place and ask themselves how they would proceed to open their door under such circumstances. The rules in law enforcement departments, "Procedures and General Orders" should include requirements that commands to drop a weapon shall be clearly given and allow enough time for the subject to comply with the contact officer's commands. As long as the subject does not point the firearm at the officer or an innocent bystander, there is still a good chance to de-escalate the encounter without having to pull the trigger. That is why having a backup present prior to contact is so important on calls as such. No shooting unless the weapon is pointed at the responding officer should take place. The victim in this incident did not receive commands to drop the weapon until after he was shot multiple times.
That cop is done.
😅😅😅😅
The only thing the sheriff deputy saw was a dangerous and violent black man with a gun, and he had to eliminate the threat from the black man. The deputy shot him within seconds of opening the door, and he's going to say he feared for his life.
This country is wild
The person who made the call should be investigated. The deceased had to have a reason for having his gun and who covered the peep hole to the airman front door-was this done by the police or a mischievious person.
@MROJPC
And the sad thing here is, you think
their training is the problem?
If simply holding a gun in your own home is considered a threat, than anyone walking with a gun legally in public as an open carry or conceal carry is a sitting target for police. This shooting is unjustified.
That pistol fast draw was crazy . But don't make this a race thing like Crump does at times he answered the door with a gun and heard sheriffs office.
That cop walks with no accountability despicable
