The bread actually prevents the meatballs from drying out in the oven and helps them stay tender. Same applies to making a meatloaf, add a slice of the same bread. Very tender meatloaf.

I recently visited Mazatlan and had something I've never seen or tried before which was chorreadas.They were like a tostada but not really. The tortilla was thicker and cooked on a flat top grill. On the tortilla was a brownish black sauce, asada, cheese (rare in Mazatlan) beans and came with a range of salsas. I'd love if you could make this for us!
