That was really instructive, thanks for the game review! It was fascinating to see how patient and persistent Carlsen was with his plans - when I have an idea that doesn't quite work, I usually either give up on it, or YOLO it and play it anyways. I guess that's why I'm not world champion...
I think the reason Maguns placed the knight on a6 in the oppening is because White is threatning to play Nc4 and Bf4, if black goes Nbd7 he can't generate counterplay
Great video, Magnus' wins are almost always a masterclass! Although given that he went for 2...c5 though I would think he would play that regardless of White's second, no? Imagine voluntarily blocking in your bishop!
