You can take bearing from instrument station toward BM also but then formula would be: N= N1+ Lcos(Thita) E=E1+ Lsin(thita) Where, N1 and E1 are unknown coordinate of instrument station.
Generally, the coordinates of the station over which the total station is kept is assumed. But here they have assumed the coordinates of station where the reflector is kept. That's why confusion is occurring. Watch the video once more to clear the confusion.
