8 tablespoons would be 1/2 cup. Would be easier than counting out 8 tablespoons.

Just a question do you have to put salt to help preserve or can you leave it out? I help can when I was younger but have forgotten it all lol 😂

I've seen my mom can like this before. Although it's not an approved method of canning, this how a lot did it back in the Golden ages. They survived it, and I can tell you my granny had a iron stomach. She could eat left over food for a month or more and never get sick. Lord I don't know how she done it, she lived to be 88 and we lost her tragically in a car wreck in April this year.

This is how I have always put my okra up for frying. It taste fresh out of the garden. But make sure to have grease hot, strain and rinse vinegar solution off, batter and fry. Perfect!!!!

    4 TBSP = 1/4 cup 8 TBSP = 1/2 cup. So you used 1/2 cup of vinegar.

Have you checked the pH of the liquid? I think it has to be below 4.5 to be safe.

I've been doing mine this way for close to 30 years except I do a hot water bath... I use to freeze mine and I had an older lady show me how to can it like this and it is so good. Just open up a jar and rinse and fry.... Taste just like you picked it fresh from the garden.

Ive never heard of turning your canning jar upside to help seal them. Of course, theres more to canning that I dont know than there is that I do know lol. Thanks for sharing another canning video especially for Okra that can be used for frying later, its the only way I eat them. God bless you both, Shirley.

Most people will throw out the tails and caps. Personally, I eat the caps if they aren't too big or tough, so I put them in with what I'm frying. There's nothing wrong with the tails, but I don't use them because the batter doesn't stick to them too well. It's all preference. I do put the tails I trim off into a freezer bag to put into gumbo or okra and tomatoes. There's no sense in wasting them.

These are great uploads. So much of this knowledge has been lost due to convenience (and the schools dropping Home Ec.) Personally I'm not a fan of okra; although, when I cook Louisiana style dishes, I'll use it. Still, I certainly appreciate the education. Thank you Tammy and Chris. God bless y'all. :) PS, "chow-chow" (green tomato relish) is the last time I pickled. I had a bumper crop of green tomatoes. I guess that corner didn't get enough sunshine. That reminds me of "home" (East coast Canada).

But they did seal. I bought these lids on Amazon because couldn't find any around. Also.... I used pickling salt and they seam to be cloudy. Have any suggestions on what causes this? The jars were sterile and hot. Thanks Tammy hope you can help. God Bless.
