I am very happy for you all. Just a quick note with your fans... you will or should have better circulation if one of the fans was on the ground. Meaning hot side fan in the upper is a great spot, but the other from colder cabin should be on the ground. You will get a stronger exchange of air flow. Anyway I am glad you guys can do what you do.
Thank you! 😊 I see what you are saying but typically we put the fan on depending on the stove we have going (pulling from the kitchen or den). We would need an upper and lower going both ways (and keep the hallway clear). So far the way we have it setup works well but if we need to push cold air out we can turn on ceiling fan in that room and it moves the air around enough. It is something to look into if we have issues in the future! Thanks for the tip!👍
I miss Maine soooo much!! We moved to Florida last year to help take care of my mother, but one day we’re coming back home. While here in North Florida, we’re setting up our homestead until we can move back.
I also cook on a Baker’s choice wood cook stove. I agree with you on log cabins; as beautiful as they are they require a ton of maintenance and as we age that could become problematic. Our home is a three module modular home and we added large porches across the entire structure front and back: serves to keep most of the house free from the elements and also provides nice entrances, the front is a deck and the back is stone where we have all the cooking wood stashed.
@@HanbleceyaRanch for sure I said that in another comment too because I was in a commenting mood and in the mind to encourage others who like myself are homesteading later in life… I started 13 years ago in my early 50s.

New Subscriber! I too like an open concept for the same reason. Years ago my son asked me what my dream retirement home looked like. I told him it would have four exterior walls and no interior walls. He said, "So it would be an open floor plan"? And I said yep wide open. He said, but you would have bedroom walls? And I said nope, wide open. He said, "But you would have bathroom walls..." And I said nope, wide open. I went on to say "I want my company to know there will come a time when they need to leave"!!
So happy you found us! We love the open floor plan. Between that and the cathedral ceilings it makes it seem larger than it is!!😊We may have to steal that line when we have visitors come by!!😂
I was curious about the name "Hanbleceya" ? I may be wrong but is that the word Native American Indians use when praying for dreams or visions. I had a friend who was part Lakota and she mentioned a word like that once and it stuck in my brain for some reason.
@DanB-ei8br Hanbleceya is a vision quest for Lakota Sioux. We were married on the arm of the CrazyHorse memorial. Since that was where it all started we wanted to honor that by naming our homestead and our animals Lakota names. This is our vision quest!😊

@robinbrown205- Hello from our working farm in Central Lakes New Hampshire. We have a 350 family farm. You are probably better looking in Maine as our property prices have gone through the roof! Both states are great places to enjoy the countryside and I wish you the best of luck.
The open concept is a great idea for ventilation/heating/cooling! It's also not necessary to have normal walls and doors because it's just the two of you!! Also... walls and doors cost money!!🤣🤣
Nice, we have a older house that we heat with wood, propane un the bathroom for baths. Our ceiling fans really gelp keep the heat circulating. Everything you have done looks nice to me.
Very Nice..I just Pick up 5 Acres in Maine..Thinking on buying one of the Shed to house..Good Job Guys Enjoy the retirement out there ...Next Month I will be Cutting some trees down to make room for a home
Hi from a fellow mainer beautiful place,im in southern maine, lil town of lebanon outside a city. So in the country.. glad to have found u guys, ill keep following
Looks fantastic!! You have a beautiful property and some great ideas. My wife and I live just a short distance south of you. Best of success with your future projects.
I did the same thing with the little fans near the ceiling. I'm in a small 1930's built house with original metal kitchen cabinets, and no central air. I use a small a/c and Mr. Heater in the living room. I have a little fan at the top of the doorway aimed at the kitchen, and another fan at the top of the bedroom. I heat and cool this 800 sq ft place with just those two. It works even better now that I have insulation under the house (with landlord's permission) that I paid my neighbor to do.
Another excellent video. I like how you describe yours and Jen’s thought processes for why you chose to do something the way you did. It seems like you get a lot of natural light in the cabin too. Oh and tell Jen this is my second winter over wintering some pepper plants her in MA.. It really does work lol
Nice video and very nice layout. My future plans after I retire later this year is to get myself around 20 - 30 acres and set up a small "off grid" cabin. I never thought of having the stoves in the middle of the room, It's now another choice for me to make. Also, I love the idea of the walls not going to the ceiling and using barn doors to save space. Oh, and that small wall you build near the entry that separates your living room was a smart idea.
Thank you so much for the kind words!! My husband, Jason spent months sketching out the plans for our cabin. Good luck on your retirement. Sounds like you have a good plan. The stoves setup the way they are lets the heat radiate all around the stove. We knew we didn’t want the walls to the ceiling so that the heat could go into the other rooms. The ceiling fans help to move the heat around. I like the look of barn doors but they do also save space. The wall by the entry came to be mainly because we needed a place to put our jackets, so Jason brought out his sketchbook and designed it. It works great. A bit of privacy in the living room and a place to put our jackets. You have to get creative with the space you have and Jason has done a great job doing just that!! Have a great night!😊
You can get more insulation going shed to cabin than a log house. 5 years ago I built my last regular log cabin down state. Code requires a R 20 now in wall. You can get logs split and insulate and glued back together but price is higher. And never has anyone asked about them. Nice stove. I like shelves better than cabinets.
We have no building codes in our town so we were able to do our cabin the way we wanted it. If we had R 20 in our walls we would have to open all the windows when the wood stove is on. Bet that splitting the logs is expensive! We love our stove, it works great for us!! The open concept throughout the cabin is exactly what we were looking for!!😊
Nice set up man. My cousin and I picked up a 14x40 Amish cabin probably from the same builder, judging from the trim work around the window and how the inside looked as a shell.
Things are coming along nicely, and I like the open concept! It’s nice and roomy too. Nice set up! Thank you for sharing! My husband and I are in the Southern part of the state. Been here all our lives and wouldn’t want to live anywhere else, however my daughter moved to Chicago a few years ago to be with her boyfriend.
Thank you for the kind words. We love to openness of the cabin and it’s so much easier to heat and cool. Maine has been a blessing to us. We love it!! Our kids are still back in the Chicago area. We had been born and raised there….we were happy to leave. 😊
This is the first video of yours I have watched. I noticed the name of your ranch is taken from the Sioux word for the vision quest and your animals are given Lakota names. I am an 81 year old American woman who currently lives in France. However, I am a native Coloradan and for about 12 years is was a member of a group of individuals who studied and practiced the Lakota Sioux culture and red road. We went for about 8 years to the Cheyenne River Reservation to attend sun dances at Green Grass under Grandpa Sidney Keith and I attended two lowampi ceremonies at Eagle Butte. All of us did hanblecya at one time or another and several of our men sundanced for 4 years. I am curious as to where you got your relationship with the Sioux.
Welcome to the channel!! You are correct…all of our animals and our ranch are Lakota names. My husband and I were married on the arm of the CrazyHorse memorial back in 2010. My husband had been to the memorial with his father (who had passed away) and it always had a special place in his heart. We had planned a family trip out there and decided it would be the perfect spot to get married! When we were trying to think of a name for our ranch we decided that since it all began on the arm of the memorial we would continue honoring that and it continued with the animals we have brought into the family. We feel this homesteading journey we are on is our hanbleceya! ♥️
Just found this channel. Excellent content! I don’t know if you have seen ant of Boss of The Swamps vds, but he has some excellent vds on insulating the bottom around the skirting. He is a wealth of info. Been watching him for years.

Just found your channel on TH-cam, it’s funny cause I have a camp in the western mountains in Maine, it looks a lot like your, only mine was a big mobile home with a 24x24 cabin built in the middle lol it was my moms that we built for her in the late 80s up on Indian land, it’s been handed down to me, so I need to get up there and get it back into shape, my brothers and sisters keep an eye on it for me, but there getting a little to old to be climbing up on things, I’ll keep watching your videos, and watch out dem dear moose A 👍🏼😎
We are so happy you found us. Your camp sounds amazing!! We don’t have many mountains in our area but it’s beautiful nonetheless!! Hope you enjoy our videos and we look forward to hearing more from you! 😊 The moose are the main things we keep an eye out for around here! Everything else keeps its distance! 🫎

Thanks for the tour, nice job! Can you share with us what if any land use regulations you were/are required to follow in order to live there? Thank you.
Really enjoyed this. If/when I retire I'd like to be somewhere with 4 seasons. One thing I missed on the tour was your electricity source. Do you have solar and/or use a generator?
Noticed some Marine Corps pictures on a wall in your cabin! I always take interest in anything Marine Corps as I’m a Marine myself! 1962/66, 0811/8511. Great video. Semper Fi
Thanks! 😊 According to the EPA detectors should be 6” from the ceiling. It’s where we’ve had them in every house we’ve lived in. Something to do with how CO fills a room. 🤷♂️
I like the interior design, wood work. Seems very cozy inside. Wondering about the propane wall heater, a larger unit like that is it vented & powered (fan)?
Thank you so much! Yes, the heater is vented and does have a fan! Keeps the cabin very comfortable and as we said helps it from freezing if we are gone for a bit! 😊
Nice video, it takes a lot of guts to show off ones home (inside) thank you, it looks cozy. So question, my husband and I have a lot in Lincoln Me, we need a well and septic...do you have a video of the well going in? How deep did they have to go?
Nice job! Maine is Beautiful !!! I’m originally from Cape Neddick Maine. You can practically live off the land in Maine so happy for you.two ! Who is the young man serving are country in the Photo ?
Thank you!! It is a beautiful state!! You were right on the coast!! Must be beautiful there!! You can definitely live off the land out here! 😊 Our son is currently serving in the USMC. ♥️💛♥️💛 Have a great night!!
Are you two excited about the total eclipse event on April 8th? You're probably really close to or inside the path of totality. I believe it's centered passing over Caribou.
First time seeing one of your videos. Looks amazing. Only suggestion is to move your co meters down closer to floor level. By the time those go off you may not be able to hear it. Enjoy.
If it were me, I would make a hinged screen to hide your utility corner. You could make it from a couple used doors, or make a wood frame and cover it with some type of cloth.
Thanks for the cabin tour, looks good. As for the internet, I assume it's a satellite disk? How's the signal? Hopefully, it's under $100 per month. I'm paying $55 per month now and I'm hoping that be will the case when I'm in Maine. Thanks.
Thank you!! We use Starlink. We rarely have any issues. We had a local service but it never really worked. We couldn’t barely upload videos and if we got lucky it would take hours to do.
Just a friendly fyi ...your carbon monoxide alarm should be down low, by the time it reaches up there means you have already been breathing it in and we all know what that means. And I love your place!!!

Thank you for the kind words! 😊 That’s our son’s wall who’s a US Marine. We’ll do a story time on that in a future video. We fell in love with Maine the first day we stepped foot here. Thanks again and God Bless 😊
I'm not sure if it's been said, if it has, sorry for repeating. Your smoke detector is correctly placed, as smoke from fire travels up. Your CO2 however, should be placed at the lowest point as CO2 is heavier than air and travels down vs up. By the time co2 makes it to the ceiling, the cabin, and all living creatures in it, have passed from CO2 poisoning.
Hi Jack, so a lot of folks have said this to me but honestly, I’m not quite sure where that information is coming from. Based on the EPA, the location of a carbon monoxide detector should be in every room, outside of bedrooms, and placed a minimum 6 inches from the ceiling, and a minimum of 5 feet up on the wall. Alternatively they can be placed on the ceiling 6 inches from the wall. I do appreciate the concern that you and others have commented, but we’re pretty confident with the location of our detectors. Thanks again for the concern and the comment. 😊
@@HanbleceyaRanch That's good to know. The gas company says CO2 is heavier than air. Therefore, fixed CO2 safety monitor sensors should be mounted approximately 12 inches (30 cm) off the floor. At any rate, you at least have one available.

I just retired, I live in Iowa. I really enjoy the cold and snow. Iowa has a nontax on social security, which is a benefit. But, we dont get the snow as we ised to. So I am looking at different states that would fit what I like. I need to ask how did you decide on Maine? What are the benefits for livi g there? Thanks
Depending what route you want to go , you can Buy land reasonably cheap the further north you go $1500 an acre . Do you want off grid? Do you want to live in a place closer to hospitals? Millinocket, Houston , presque isle , of closer to ocean Down east as they say ?
Ya, I'd prefer off grid. I've lives in Alaska before, but it's just to expensive anymore. I want to take the snow machine out to the lake and do ice fishing and take the boat out during the warmer time of year. Within 30 minutes of a town with resources as groceries and such. That's a quick description of what would work for us. Any advise, is appreciated

Sounds like you are doing a great job!! Those fans are an amazing addition!!😊
In Michigan but have looked at getting a roll off or kit building. Thank you for sharing.
We looked into the kit buildings and found the Amish cabin was more in our price range! Good luck on your journey!😊
Thank you for sharing 😊
Thanks for watching. We appreciate the support!😊
Another excellent video. I like how you describe yours and Jen’s thought processes for why you chose to do something the way you did. It seems like you get a lot of natural light in the cabin too. Oh and tell Jen this is my second winter over wintering some pepper plants her in MA.. It really does work lol
Thank you!! We appreciate the kind word and support!! Jen is hoping to get a head start on the pepper plants this year!!👍
Nice video and very nice layout.
Hello buddy, you and your wife have an awesome cabin enjoy it.❤❤
Thank you so much!! 😊
Thank you! Sturdi-Built did a great job on our cabins. We were very happy with them! 😊

Hi 👋 isn’t that the truth! 😊
*Hanbleceya Ranch* Bravo well done, thank-you sir for taking the time to show us around. GOD Bless. (( New Sub ))
Hi! Glad you found our channel!! Glad you enjoyed it! Take care and have a blessed evening!😊
New subscriber here...Great video tour, looking forward to your next video.

Just found this channel. Excellent content! I don’t know if you have seen ant of Boss of The Swamps vds, but he has some excellent vds on insulating the bottom around the skirting. He is a wealth of info. Been watching him for years.
So glad you found us!! 😊 We appreciate the kind words! Boss of the Swamp is my husband’s idol!! He’s been watching him since before we came out here!! 😉
New subscriber! Thank you for sharing your journey with us, a lot of great information too! Can’t wait to start my homesteading journey too 🥰

Happy you found us!! I’m glad we could share some of what we have learned! Good luck on your journey…follow your dream!♥️
Awesome cabin man. Hello from Canada's Yukon Territory.
Hi! Appreciate it! 👍
Thanks for the tour.
You are welcome! Thanks for watching!!😊
First video I have seen of this and I am from Chicago so you know I had to subcribe LOL....looking forward to checking out the old ones and all the ones to come in the future!

Great video I love the simplicity of your setup! What does your electrical system consist of being you mentioned your off grid?
Hi Brandon, Thank you for the kind words. We did a video not too long ago about our solar setup you may find interesting 👍
Awesome job!!😊
Thank you! 😄
thank you for sharing 👍👍👍
We are glad you enjoyed it!!😊
TY for this wonderful info . Looking to move farther north in NH
We love the winter so living in the north suits us well. That said, it’s easy to feel spring fever with the temps we’ve been having 😊
Thanks for the tour, nice job! Can you share with us what if any land use regulations you were/are required to follow in order to live there? Thank you.
Hi, thank you for the kind words! There are no building restrictions where we live in Aroostook County. 😊
Good move ,good luck, best wishes
Thanks so much!👍
Kick ass it's beautiful my friend .
Thank you 😊
Really enjoyed this. If/when I retire I'd like to be somewhere with 4 seasons. One thing I missed on the tour was your electricity source. Do you have solar and/or use a generator?
Thank you for the kind words 😊 We love the 4 seasons. We are on solar, we did a video not too long ago explaining our system 😊
Its lovely ❤
Thank you!😊
Noticed some Marine Corps pictures on a wall in your cabin! I always take interest in anything Marine Corps as I’m a Marine myself! 1962/66, 0811/8511.

Question: I thought carbon dioxide detectors were supposed to be located close to the ground?
I like the layout of both cabins.
Hi, thank you! We have a video of when the well was drilled, you can find it in our video list circa 2020. If memory serves, the well is 220’. 😊
Yes
Houlton has a huge event planned for it!! Supposed to be thousands of people flocking to town!!😊
Hey How Are Yall Doing!? May The Lord Be With Yall. Gainesville, Florida
Hi! Thank you! Blessings to you down in Florida!!😊
First time seeing one of your videos. Looks amazing. Only suggestion is to move your co meters down closer to floor level. By the time those go off you may not be able to hear it. Enjoy.
Hi Gud_dad, thank you for the kind words! Appreciate the suggestion about the CO meter. 😊
You folks really have a nice place, and functional. How do you get electricity?
Thank you! We have solar.
If it were me, I would make a hinged screen to hide your utility corner. You could make it from a couple used doors, or make a wood frame and cover it with some type of cloth.
Both of those ideas are great! They also still allow easy access to that area in case of any issues!! 😊
I would suggest using wood shutters to "close in" that area. that would allow air heat to circulate where that is a clod area. @@HanbleceyaRanch
Really nice place you have. What about insulation in the walls , floor and ceilings?
Thanks! 2” foam in the floor and R-13 John Mansville faced, in the walls and ceiling. 👍
Where did you get your fans to move the heat? What is the brand name? Perfect size.
Hi! It was either Amazon or Walmart. It’s a 9” fan. One is a Mainstays and one is sylvania. They work great!😊
Maybe a sliding door over hot water area? 2 sided slid down in case you need to get in there for maintenance.
Great idea!! 😊
Like your videos totally understand why you moved out of Chicago. Why Maine and not rural Wisconsin or the UP.
Hi Don, we gave WI and MI a look but found they were more expensive and had more restrictions than others.
Nice job, Where/Who did you get the Amish cabins from? Sorry if I'm missing it in your videos.
We got our Amish Cabins from Sturdi-Built in Smyrna, Maine. Ask for Johnny!!😊
Thank you
Thank you for watching!😊
Just a friendly fyi ...your carbon monoxide alarm should be down low, by the time it reaches up there means you have already been breathing it in and we all know what that means. And I love your place!!!
Thank you for the kind words 😊 we’ve gotten several comments on the placement of the CO detectors… Maybe we’ll do a video on it… 🤔
I was thinking that also about the carbon monoxide unit
Nice!
Thanks!😊
I grew up in Patten Maine
We have been there several times! Cute little town! ♥️
Loved your video and your way of life but why don’t you share the board with the army 26:22 photo and medals 🎖️ I would love you to share the story behind it ,now I am watching this over in Scotland I have stopped over in Maine many years back and it looked lovely I know I would like it because I love trout fishing and Maine has plenty but love from us over here and I will keep watching your videos,God Bless 👍❤️🏴🇬🇧🇺🇸
Great video! i Love watching your channel. have a wicked good day. i Love the Amish built buildings. i have learned that a little bit here and a little bit there does add up to a Lot done! i Love your home. you might try a heat tape for roofs on your hallway roof. :)
Thank you Warren! 😊 I’ve considered heat tape but for such a small area I’ve found that spending a minute after a big storm is all that’s needed. 👍
Thanks
I’m not sure I could give you the full answer in a comment. Maybe I’ll do a video. Stay tuned… 😊
Depending what route you want to go , you can Buy land reasonably cheap the further north you go $1500 an acre . Do you want off grid? Do you want to live in a place closer to hospitals? Millinocket, Houston , presque isle , of closer to ocean Down east as they say ?
@@HanbleceyaRanchwould be very interested in that video 👍
Keep your eye out! We are on it!!👍
Ya, I'd prefer off grid.
How much were the shells? I like that yall left the top ceiling open.
We’ve had a lot of folks ask that very question…we’ll do a video on it… stay tuned! 😊
I have 2 amish sheds which I have said could be a living area..with rent and mortgages..its a no brainer
You might be on to something 👍
Actually I thought it looks great!
Thanks!👍
What are you using for internet and how are the speeds?
We use Starlink. It is amazing. We always had trouble uploading our videos before we switched. Now never an issue. It is well worth the money.
If you do have a storage garage use the shelves for your tools
Need to finish the garage this summer. The rechargeable batteries for the cordless tools have to stay warm so they are in house during winter.
