It's the standard in many cultures, especially in east Asia. It was also common in nearly the entire Spanish-speaking world. It prevents the guy from doing anything stupid if the girl has backup. It also prevents the girl from giving it up too quickly when she really wants something serious.

This is some great advice that I never thought about. The girl I dated when I was deployed to the Philippines back in the mid/late 1990's was very chill about our first date. She wanted to go to the mall to a little pastry shop there and only ordered a slice of cake and a coffee (our whole "snack" cost me $4 or $5 dollars max). She didn't ask to invite anyone, but I suspect she chose that pastry shop because she knew the people there (and she felt more secure there). I did go out with her and one of her friends on a subsequent date, but it was a double date with a friend of mine. We never intended our relationship to be anything more than companionship and some other "fun", and it worked out well throughout my time there. I only met her parents once when I was invited over for dinner. They seemed indifferent to me (not that I minded). Sometimes I wonder what happened to her. i've had that happen. here's the proper protocol.. first, make it clear to the first one... you're not interested. get that out of the way FIRST. don't let her find out from her friend. THEN... you approach the friend in private chat. now you owe nothing to the first girl. she probably still won't like it, but that's life. in my case, i ended with the first one and then hit up her cousin. but the cousin didn't want drama, so she declined and i moved on.

"Bringing along a friend" means that if your plans were to go out, you're also footing the bill for the "friend". Also, it leads me to think there's some scheming going along with this visit.

good heads up. Thanks. This even happened to me when dating an Asian girl here in the US. In her case it was a couple friends that joined us. Then when I only paid for she and I she was indignant w me! Not a thanks for driving all this way and paying for her meal. I didn’t invite them and I had driven to her location for the date after we had chatted a while. So it was clear it was just a free meals date to her. Obviously dropped her like a hot rock after that. She contacted me months later but I did not respond.
Maybe it’s not about a free meal, but simply to make sure that you as a foreigner is not a creep and to make sure she’s safe especially for the first time meeting you (possibly a good man, who’s hopefully not some sex-fiend rapist)

I have to say my experience was the same. I made the mistake on my first date of saying yes to the Filipina I was going to meet for a date that it would be ok for her to bring her cousin along. She brought two. The date was a disaster and I ended up getting along better with one of her cousins. The next time I went on a date with a Filipina and she asked to bring a chaperone I told her that I wasn’t ready for a relationship but that I wanted to date her alone to see if we had the chemistry to develop a relationship. What’s weird was that several of them took some time, effort and a charm campaign to convince them to date me. I therefore had the feeling the first date would be conservative and not to expect to much on a first date. Nope, same with them. They were quick to say yes to going back to my place and dropped their panties as fast as the other Filipinas I dated. It appears that when Filipina had agreed to date you she has already decided she is ok with having sex with you and if she isn’t she won’t date you. At least that was my experience. On the serious side when I met the Filipina I wanted to have a long term relationship with we promptly followed their custom and our first date we first went to her village where I met her parents. It did not take long to get the impression that I had hit a home run with her Nanay. I got very positive feedback from Nanay. So we then go on a date chaperoned by her sister and then went back to her families home where we would be spending the night. I assumed I would be sleeping separately in a guest room. Nope, I kid you not, her Nanay insisted that it was ok for us to sleep together. Which we did. Long story short I have now been married to her for 19 years. Not only that I’m by far and away her Nanay’s favorite son in-law. LOL

Very sound advice, you must have a link to your intuition in the Philippines (or anywhere for that matter). Listen to your intuition and save yourself allot of wasted time and effort on plastic people. In the Philippines, I have learned that it is best to be direct and to the point rather than dance around what your intentions really are, most of the time you will get what you are looking for.
This question has come up before on other channels. If I remember correctly, the "other woman" your girl wants to bring along, especially if it's a first date, is a chaperone. You have to remember that the Philippines still has very old-fashioned notions about dating, especially if you're talking about girls from the provinces. So another woman joining you and your prospective girlfriend on your first date (or even the first few or even several dates) could be a normal thing for her.

had an arranged dinner w/ sister of friend in taiwan. brother showed up as well, in order to check me out in case it turned into a serious relationship. or to put it another way, if he had issues with me, it probably wouldn't have progressed any further even if id wanted to.
in majority of my situations.. the filipina was simply playing it safe. after all, they hear stories of girls being beaten up, raped and worse. but once they see you're cool, no more chaperone.

I have no problem with my date bringing a friend along under any circumstance. If it makes her comfortable fine. Maybe she wants her friends opinion or to feel safe etc. No problem whatever makes her more comfortable is fine with me.
"Bringing along a friend" means that if your plans were to go out, you're also footing the bill for the "friend". Also, it leads me to think there's some scheming going along with this visit.

Honestly, using a website is about the worst way to meet a potential wife.
there is so much that can be hidden online from 7,000 miles away. every website will have scammers that infiltrate it.
really, the best way is to meet them in person and get to know them over a long period of time. at least a year before even thinking about making any commitments about marriage.

I have to say my experience was the same. I made the mistake on my first date of saying yes to the Filipina I was going to meet for a date that it would be ok for her to bring her cousin along. She brought two. The date was a disaster and I ended up getting along better with one of her cousins.
The next time I went on a date with a Filipina and she asked to bring a chaperone I told her that I wasn’t ready for a relationship but that I wanted to date her alone to see if we had the chemistry to develop a relationship. She was cool about that.
Now here’s the cool things about Filipinas, and I’m going to put this in vulgar terms, once a Filipina has decided to date you, and you go out for a date (no chaperone), not once did a Filipina say no to going back to my place and once there they were quite quick to enthusiastically drop their panties.
What’s weird was that several of them took some time, effort and a charm campaign to convince them to date me. I therefore had the feeling the first date would be conservative and not to expect to much on a first date. Nope, same with them. They were quick to say yes to going back to my place and dropped their panties as fast as the other Filipinas I dated.
It appears that when Filipina had agreed to date you she has already decided she is ok with having sex with you and if she isn’t she won’t date you. At least that was my experience.
On the serious side when I met the Filipina I wanted to have a long term relationship with we promptly followed their custom and our first date we first went to her village where I met her parents. It did not take long to get the impression that I had hit a home run with her Nanay. I got very positive feedback from Nanay.
So we then go on a date chaperoned by her sister and then went back to her families home where we would be spending the night. I assumed I would be sleeping separately in a guest room.
Nope, I kid you not, her Nanay insisted that it was ok for us to sleep together. Which we did.

Very sound advice, you must have a link to your intuition in the Philippines (or anywhere for that matter). Listen to your intuition and save yourself allot of wasted time and effort on plastic people. In the Philippines, I have learned that it is best to be direct and to the point rather than dance around what your intentions really are, most of the time you will get what you are looking for.

You have to remember that the Philippines still has very old-fashioned notions about dating, especially if you're talking about girls from the provinces. So another woman joining you and your prospective girlfriend on your first date (or even the first few or even several dates) could be a normal thing for her.
