What a great version of this old tune. Not since David took Goliath out of the occasion, was there such an unlikely victory for the little guy! Tom Barry, and his gallant band of warriors must never be forgotten. Best wishes from Birmingham.
A huge "well done" to all of our brave lads who participated in this operation. I'd like to send the same sentiment to the brave Vol's. who gave the brits a quite lovely surprise at Narrow Waters. Saoirse tiocfaidh ár lá 🇮🇪 ⚒️ 🇮🇪 Ó É
I'm a Gael born in England. This song that celebrates the great victory of Tom Barry and his galant Flying colume inspires me. God bless those 3 Irishmen who died that day. Ireland needs men like this now. IRELAND BELONGS TO THE IRISH.🇮🇪
A finer bard could no man find need for Colum, being so gall to and true yourself! Just lovely my friend, and we long to return to those fine hills, forty shades of green as they are. Copeen remains in our hearts and now in our ears.
James, we look forward to the great day when you make it back to Coppeen. You have some true friends here. In the meantime, you & Lisa, keep well till we meet again. Best, Colum

Essex and Manchester regiment only the Auxies went to wrong place and left the gap through which the column escaped. The search of the area was instigated as a result of an IRA spy who revealed the column base and arms dump. The spy was John Buckley alias Patrick Coakley a Bandon officer see Murder by the throat spies and informers in the Irish war of independence
All correct, what you say, but rebel songs are never going to provide 100% accurate references to actual events. I think we will allow this inaccuracy. Great tune!

Only problem about the song is it was not the Black and Tans but the Auxiliaries that they fought. The Auxiliaries were mainly Officers from WW1.

Excellent 👌 well sung. Should remove your cap on sacred ground. Respect
I wonder if Barry really would have given the Auxies a chance to surrender, somehow I doubt it.
too sanitized to satisfy the catholic clergy there - no passion at all
Now now don't be a bigot the song is sung in a cemetery.
