My dad was a finish contractor in southern Cal decades ago. He always took us on Sunday drives, and PV was one of the many places we drove through. My oldest sister was married in the glass church there when I was 10yrs old. Anyway on drives through PV my dad would point out homes built overlooking the Pacific Ocean and comment on the foolishness of building on the unstable hillsides that were at risk to mudslides. Lots of houses lost, some that my dad had done the finish work on, and yet people continued building in the unstable areas for those gorgeous views. Some of those homes you could seriously watch the progression of errosion taking place bit by bit over time. Thats been 50...60 years ago and its so weird to think that people persisted in building their homes there
It's greed. The developers, the contractors, geologists, dept. of building and safety, everyone who signs off on these types of developments should be held responsible. Once again, the taxpayers will take on the cost of cleaning up these messes.
@@signalfire6there’s no such thing as hurricanes zones, they are called flood zones, a hurricane could hit anywhere in the world that is close to the ocean, but are not considered hurricane zone since they are unpredictable every year as where they will hit land, yes they track it but it changes every year, I’m from Florida and that terminology is not right, it’s FLOOD ZONES
This is a situation that has nothing to do with $$$ or lawsuits or complaints blames, townhall meetings , work crews, construction, public works, or emergency declarations. It's a matter of acknowledging homelessness, the environment is irreversible damaged and prayers .
I live in Palos Verdes. I wouldn’t characterize us as rich. Most people bought their homes and condos years ago. My neighbor bought his condo in 1998 for 300k and now it’s 1.3 million. Doesn’t mean that he shouldn’t be able to collect aid money. My parents bought my condo in 2003 for 400k and my unit is 1.4 now. Shouldn’t preclude me from being able to receive state or federal assistance, especially since I’m sure the residents here pay more taxes than the average Californian.

I think they should have enough money if it really means a lot to them to save there homes if not then why don’t we sound a state of emergency for all the other climate change refugees
New building permits have to be controlled. PV is crumbling, and the city council has to be responsible. Criminal charges for allowing new building in unsafe areas.

Why do they deserve any indulgence, especially when innocent people are injured from negligence & malevolence beside endure crime, then neglected deserved protection, support, & representation? An honorable US Navy retiree, endured abuse, harm, & injustice from civil, criminal, & human rights violations with atrocity in San Diego CA, but those were indulged & the immoral ordeal suppressed from exposure while I was blatantly ignored then exploited & forced onto street while critically injured, then further harmed & violated amid Veteran's Exploitation Industrial Complex; kleptocracy, conniving parasites, outright evil, & systemic corruption injured me, then they wanted me to die on the street so they could further exploit me after death then bury Truth with my body about chisel, heist, harm, deliberately imposed disparity, fraud, malfeasance, among disparity & crime since they are somehow still getting exorbitant funds without ever providing services or support for me then obfuscate while I endure disabling injury, poverty, & further endangered.
should not be homes there in such an unstable area. shouldn't be taxpayers or the Federal government to help these rich people

@@Budesolar_1 Same as building in a hurricane zone - AT YOUR OWN RISK, NOT THE PUBLIC'S PROBLEM TO FINANCE.
But the taxpayers do end up aging for it aka federal aid.@@signalfire6

That's a pricey area they can afford it to move out of state . Nope no taxes for those rich mofos

I was born and raised in CA and always wondered why they built homes on the cliffs. Even as a kid I knew that was stupid
Question: when does 50 years advance notice of a disaster become an emergency?
Answer: none of your business.
Aren’t they all pretty wealthy though what about the homeless in the rain every day and night…..

This is very sad but I'm not sure there is a practical solution especially something that can be done in time to stop the disaster.
Have climate nuts glue them self to the streets that stop all that weather and earthquake,
The time for engineering is past. People need to move or lose their lives.

Let’s make a deal, it’s election season, how about for every $1 donation to my campaign fund, I give you $1,000 government money for disaster relief?

Yes people always talked about an earthquake destroying California but it looks like it might be rain and mud instead.
