Lok Sabha Speaker: BJP's Om Birla has been re-elected as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, securing the position with the backing of the NDA's majority. In a rare display of bipartisanship, both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi escorted Birla to his chair after the election results were announced. Despite the INDIA bloc's push for their candidate K Suresh and their demands for the Deputy Speaker post to be given to the opposition, Birla's re-election was expected due to the NDA's strong numbers in the 542-member House.
