- 1st Minnesota Living History Program at Gettysburg, hosted by the Liberty Rifles, with an encampment at the Leister Farm and a recreation of the charge of the 1st Minnesota on July 2nd, where the regiment made a bayonet charge against an entire enemy brigade, suffering 82% casualties. The participants numbered the exact amount of men who made the actual charge. This event was part of the 159th Battle Anniversary events in July 2022.
This hits hard. I cant imagine the final thoughts of the brave men that charged across that field. They saw a massive line of gray beyond those woods and knew their fate. That final measure of devotion should never be forgotten. The Liberty Rifles did an excellent job here of bringing the Minnesota back to life. Thank you for sharing this with the rest of us. God Bless you and the United States.
Thank you to everyone who spends their money, time and energy to keep history alive.
Outstanding video and very well put together. Thank you, pard!
Thank you for recording this. I was a participant and we really love finding footage of our events. I hope you enjoyed it!
Feel free to share and use if you like! A great event
I'm grateful for such a great representation of the real HEROS of our short history as a nation. I've been out of living history for about a decade (1/11th NCT) and plan on returning in earnest very soon! Man, I would've loved to have been at this event in any capacity. Stokes the fire even more to get back involved like I used to be. Thanks again from the bottom of my (rebel 😉) heart for all involved in this vid!!! Sending love and respect from Johnston County, NC!

I love how they sing the battle cry of freedom at 4:39.
same, maybe my favorite part of the whole thing.
Powerful song
During the final assault on Snodgrass Hill at Chickamauga the 104th Illinois struck up a chorus of the Battle Cry of Freedom. They marched off the field at right shoulder shift arms and kept singing. This was an army forged in defeat on that hill.
The return of the "survivors" did a fantastic job representing the conclusion. Amazing thing to see recreated.
A lot of great people. And effort by those who treasure what they do.
It's rare, you know? To find people who truly understand the meaning of honor. A dying, near-dead breed. Remember the strifes and struggles, for it is what hardens men for the next step to freedom.
@@thirdgen377 Very well said.
Agree
Heroes of Gettysburg. I salute you and the originals.
Thanks for posting this. As much fun as it was to be part of it. I was also wishing I could have watched it as well lol.
Seriously, thank you so very much for this. Means the world to me. Will be there next year, driving from Michigan. Visited the battlefield in June 2021. Intended on being there for this but finances and life happened so I am grateful someone out there did this. You got my sub!
Nicely done gentleman, may the departed souls on that battlefield feel the honor paid for their sacrifice.
My Great great grandpa was in 4th Regiment Minnesota volunteers, his two older brothers were in 2nd, and 3rd Regiments. They lived around Waterville, La Sueur County. Greatgreat Grandpa is buried at Satakah Cemetary. Albert Augustus Henry Ripley, he named his son, my great grandpa, Meade Sherman Ripley.
Very good 👍
Reminds me when I was a civil war renactor here in the UK, in our society there was a 1st Minn regt.
I was Johnny Reb in the 55th Va .
Keep it up boys!!
Hi I was also a civil war reenact or in Soskan southern Skirmish Association I served with the 4th texas, 7 th louisiana zouaves, madison artillery and the south Carolina sharpshooters.
@andrewcarter504 hello to a fellow soskan veteran!

Steve
Thanks Pard(s) for capturing the event, sights and sounds *LIKED* and *SUBSCRIBED* -- LT
Very impressive numbers for the charge. Hats off to the Liberty Rifles!!
Four of every five of the men in the 1st MN became casualties during the famous charge.
Those surviving that action. By order of General Hancock. Would be issued all of General Sickle's whiskey. His cigars. His drawers etc. Had I Been Hancock. No doubt he was moved by the bravery of The 1st Minnesota Infantry.
And the next day the survivors fought against Pickett's Charge where more were killed!
@@df5295 Such sacrifice. Men being pushed beyond the limit.
This is really impressive. Awesome work.
Wow! Great to see so many forming a single regiment like that. Very moving just watching these guys marching into battle, the bravery of all who had to do this for real - surely this is what reenactment is all about.
Well done! I was a reenactor in the 33rd Alabama / 6th Indiana years ago.
Thank you
Well Done!

Good job !
Well done.
That charge made the hair on the back of my neck stand up, realizing that’s exactly what happened in that exact location. . .
In another video the president of the Liberty Rifles said they had a handful more men than the 1st at Gettysburg so this is super accurate
Liberty Rifles look damn good!
Very nice and realistic. We are some swedish men here in Sweden, starting a small troop. Hope to maybe marsch with you i the future.
Chills
Even for a bunch of yanks, that was pretty chilling.

Having reenactor posers on the sacred battlefield with their bad costumes and bad attitudes is an insult to the dead that fought on that field.
If only your dumbass knew how many thousands of dollars those reenactors raise for battlefield preservation
How do become a Civil War re-enactor? I always wanted to do this
