That being-eaten-by-ants scream ("MACGYYVEEEER!!!") has haunted me for years. It was also the stupidest, most preventable death I've ever seen in pop culture. Jack@$$ bent down on the ground a few feet from where the killer ants were, was surprised when some were crawling on him, spun around in shock, and then slid into the ant pit. WHATTA DOPE! XD
The inspiration for this episode was the 1954 classic, The Naked Jungle, starring Charlton Heston, which was also the inspiration for the ant scene in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
This is one of the best episodes of the series. I LOVE the way Trumbo is indeed a flawed person yet he truly wants to help others and MacGyver and Trumbo end up going on this journey and working together to wipe out an enemy like no other. Amazing episode. A welding torch out of jumper cables and coins, a bomb out of fertilizer and a hazmat suit out of a rubber hose. When Macgyver blows the dam Trumbo was thrilled. He did not see it as a village washed away he seen it as a new beginning and Macgyver as a friend as savior.
I was looking for the "ant scene", I was so scared as a little kid....and now...30 years later, I realize while Im reading the comments, Im not the only one who was affraid back then :))
This scene messed me up as a kid. I have ever since had a string fear of fire ants, and I am uncomfortable around normal ants. I can't even bring myself to watch this now.
You know, I don't watch TV anymore, but for some reason I feel that they don't have bad acting and cheesy scenes like this anymore. When the 80s passed, we all lost something...
Wow. I can't believe that this is on here. (Actually I can) I have been afraid of ravenous ant hoards my whole life and this scene is why. The part where it shows just his glasses is the exact same scene that has replayed in my mind for decades. Although it was definitely more traumatic watching it the first time
It was at the age of 14 years old and in spring of 1983 when I saw this episode. Yes I was traumatized by what could be seen and I had nightmares about it and 🐜 hoards for years. What also played a major factor was that while I was in junior high and high school, I mowed lawns for hire and when I saw 🐜 hills with all the ants crawling around, I would get scared and uncomfortable because I would think of this episode.
CHUNKEE MONKY People like you disgust me.. Hey, tell me, what are you going to do with all the likes you are asking for, eh? Buy an IcreCream from you TH-cam shop?
(Season 1 Episode 6 "Trumbo's World") I saw this one night while I was about 4 years old, scared the hell out of me. I've been thinking about it on and off since then (I'm 31 now) and I've only just found out what it was!
I was scared of ant after seeing this episode and my parents forbidden me to watch Macgyver since....lol. Being a child is really something. Lol Today I'm 31 too and I laughed out loud after watching this.
Very chilling death scene. Too bad actor Peter Jurasik was better at screaming than he was at falling into the trench. Charlie is kind of child-like the way he can't stop marvelling at how "amazing" the killer ants are and ends up dying because of it, which made it even more traumatic for me. I felt better knowing Peter survived to play other roles.
Esquire TV showing MacGyver shows now. Trumbo's World will air later today. This episode reminds me of the Charlton Heston classic "The Naked Jungle " . In that film, it was Army Ants (Marabunta) Chuck was facing.
And now come to think about it. This episode is direct ripoff of "The Naked Jungle" The entire ending of Mac blowing up the dam is actually Charlton Heston's character Livingston blowing up his own dam to wash away the ants from killing everyone including his mail order bride in his plantation.
WOW! Those ants look so nasty and deadly compared to the fake looking CGI ants in Indiana Jones 4. I never believed for a second that those ants looked the slightest bit real! CGI is horrible but this clip is great!
In 1954 Charlton Heston starred in a movie called The Naked Jungle and many of the clips from this episode are actually cuts from that movie... I'm not kidding... And I think that the inspiration came from that movie.
idk who mr sunday is, i just remember this from my childhood and haven't seen it in like 25 years or some shit lol, here i am, in random video land with you weird fuckers XD
Oh yes him. At least they learned from that Charlie's mistake. Interesting, someone pointed out the ants episode was an adaptation of the '50s, Charlton Heston film The Naked Jungle, I just read that some of the shots of the ants was taken from the film. The episode with the bomb on the ship and the other Charlie was an adaptation of '70s, British film Juggernaut, in fact it even had a bomb defuser called Charlie who died by accidentally setting one of the bombs.
And yet some people, like the producers of the 1998 movie The Wedding Singer for example, tried to paint the year 1985 at a gimmicky, entertaining year with fun music. The people in the Amazon in 1985 getting killed the killer ants there, beg to differ.
cant even lift a canoe, mind you, it has to float on water with 4 or 5 ppl some times, ummm ok hehe ill get the paperclip out and the rubber band, but i will use a raw fish insted -.-
this episode scared the shit outta me when I was a young kid haha

My childhood trauma just back
That scene with the ants surrounding the glasses is the most memorable one I remember from being little and watching Macgyver, haha~
Yess I remembered it too!

Famous last words

Macgyver: "If I just had a paperclip, I could've saved him!"

Same scenario. Me right now.
i was around 7 when i first saw this episode, i had nightmares the night right after, it was so horrifying
He should have just asked the ants to move that styrofoam canoe.
this episode and this particular scene is the one i will remember from ever from the whole series.
Most remembered episode that i've seen..
oibomdia oi bom dia @yzidikhwanbahari4863 oi bom dia Alessandro de Souza baeta Neves São Bernardo do Campo
A canoe that two grown men cannot lift seems impractical.
Where was this canoe hoisted that it could fall on a girl anyway?
If ants that could eat you this quickly actually existed I'm pretty sure the Amazon would be completely uninhabited
This scene messed me up as a kid. I have ever since had a string fear of fire ants, and I am uncomfortable around normal ants. I can't even bring myself to watch this now.
which season? and episode number?
Charlie was played by Peter Jurasik, who also played Londo Mollari in babylon 5.
You know, I don't watch TV anymore, but for some reason I feel that they don't have bad acting and cheesy scenes like this anymore. When the 80s passed, we all lost something...
Why do I have a MASSIVE fear of ants?
Macgyver: 👿😏
I watched this as a small child and I've never been the same ever since.
if only Ant-man were there.
+Jason Todd didnt you get your skull bashed in with a crowbar?
Jason Todd
Like u
Lots of people got scared by this scene... me too. I never forgot it when I saw it young! :-D
The photographer chose to get dangerously close to the ants. He got what he deserved.
I did not make the connection between this movie and Ant-Man untill someone pointed it out.
...
I feel quite the fool

No one was helping the woman under the cement canoe, in the middle of the landlocked jungle, until MacGyver came!
memorable episode what producers smoked, so dark
HAHA! What a beautiful fucking death! Lardass here is gonna provide them ants with a nice dinner for the whole colony.
I've never forgotten this scene or the episodes that had Murdoch in them
At the age if 14 years old in spring of 1983 was when I saw this episode. I didn't forget it and had nightmares about it off and on for years.
Those alien ants are loud. The sound like the aliens from Bloodborne.
This was my first experience of "trauma" as a child. I remember this episode messed me up lmfao.
for the rest of the way, if i'm not swatting at ants, the ants will encroach ever closer.
I watched this when I was like 5 or 6 and it scared me to death!
This episode was wild growing up as a kid that loved to play "the floor is lava" on the furniture.
the floor is killer ants
(Season 1 Episode 6 "Trumbo's World") I saw this one night while I was about 4 years old, scared the hell out of me. I've been thinking about it on and off since then (I'm 31 now) and I've only just found out what it was!

I watched this episode when I was little, now I'm scarred for life. I'm terrified of ants :P
Thanks Mr. Sunday
As a kid, I kept imagining ants in my bed that night.
This literally gave me nightmares the first time I saw it. Now it just seems funny 😁 .
They should have had Webster come by and burn the ant colony down. My two most traumatic childhood TV moments could eradicate themselves.
There's a man stuck in the Lego river builds a helicopter to rescue him
That photographer died because he is the world's worst actor.
That was Londo Mollari from Babylon 5.
How the hell did a canoe just land there
Very chilling death scene. Too bad actor Peter Jurasik was better at screaming than he was at falling into the trench.

I ain't seen this episode since it first aired , what season was this from, does anybody know
when theres alot of ants always keep a safe distance because the ants can climb
The only episod which scared me !
I like how Mac just gives him a lazy "Charlieee" when he runs off to see the other side of the village. Way to go Mac, you just killed your friend.
WOW! Those ants look so nasty and deadly compared to the fake looking CGI ants in Indiana Jones 4. I never believed for a second that those ants looked the slightest bit real! CGI is horrible but this clip is great!
I'm guessing this inspired Indiana jones 4
Fraser Bathgate even in Indiana Jones 4 they don't make creepy noise, but they do stack on each other and moves something
In 1954 Charlton Heston starred in a movie called The Naked Jungle and many of the clips from this episode are actually cuts from that movie... I'm not kidding... And I think that the inspiration came from that movie.
I'm born in 2001, I remember watching this when i was 7. I dreamt about this the other night.
Why didn't they simply lift the canoe up with their hands? They had 3 adult males there...
+BoxxyFan hwo the fuck did she even end up under that canoe?
Macgyver sadly never came close to topping its first season
this scared me as a kid.
Ants, I hate ants.
idk who mr sunday is, i just remember this from my childhood and haven't seen it in like 25 years or some shit lol, here i am, in random video land with you weird fuckers XD
Not the first Charlie who ends up dead. The other one was the bomb defuser.
Oh yes him. At least they learned from that Charlie's mistake.
