    Both sound really good. But that those elacs have something special about them. You're lucky to have both.

    somehow the Dali's sound more like a live performance to me. If that come through a youtube video, that must be incredible in person!

      They really are incredible, and that isn’t just talk. I could literally sit in front of these speakers (or off-axis) for hours because they are that good. I am sure there are better sounding speakers for twice the price, and there are better sounding systems than mine, but you will pay for it! Peace!

    I like oberon 3 , the mid and mid-low feel like more forward
    Overall the sound feel like more lively

    I really love the soundstage of the Oberons... if that comes through via TH-cam it must be spectacular in real life. I already have the Elac UB52s and I have been less than happy with them, since I feel like you have to be right in the sweet spot, and I'd like to upgrade to something more forgiving in terms of placements and seating position.

    • @MelanicWarrior
      @MelanicWarrior  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They are absolutely very good speakers! They produce great sounding music with a lot of life and depth. They are definitely worth the money and they better than any of the Elac’s. Elac speakers are not lively; they are better for watching movies, in my opinion. If your ears and expectations are anything like mine you will love Dali!

    I think the the DALIs benefitted from the boundary effect of the walls behind them. It would be interesting to redo the test with the ELACs in the same position as the DALIs.

    • @MelanicWarrior
      @MelanicWarrior  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I tried that in order to get a fair baseline for myself, but the Dali’s still performed the best. The Elac’s just don’t have enough punch, heft or even openness to compete with the Dali’s. Elac’s are good but they are better as B-channel speakers than they are as main speakers. They do a very good job of actually enhancing the sound of the Dali’s, and I do like that, especially for jazz.

    • @akdomun
      @akdomun 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MelanicWarrior Thanks. Don't you find the ELACs have better instrument separation though?

    • @MelanicWarrior
      @MelanicWarrior  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      ABSOLUTELY NOT! The Elac's are very reserved speakers compared to the Dali's.But everyone has their taste, and I understand that. @@akdomun

    • @MelanicWarrior
      @MelanicWarrior  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely! It is a much better speaker for listening to music of all genres. Elac's just are not lively enough -- they are balanced but dull sounding compared to Dali.

    Dali for the win

  • @johnnyhiett
    @johnnyhiett 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Well first I say nice! I have some Elac 2.0 speakers I use as baseline monitors and the sound you recorded seems correct. For the audio recording here I like the Dali's in general. Of course the speakers should be beside each other and also volume balanced as part of a simple comparison. Elacs were in an open large area and Dali's were backed by a flat wall. If you wanted to make it easy...rerun the test with the speakers swapped.
    I enjoy the videos, keep it up.

    • @MelanicWarrior
      @MelanicWarrior  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I will try your suggestion as soon as I get the time to do it right.

    • @johnnyhiett
      @johnnyhiett 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have the Elacs on a 4 way Niles 250 watt speaker selector. It is so inefficient because of the massive Elac crossover, that I must turn the volume up when they are chosen. I have about 7 other pairs of speakers in the 94-96db sensitivity range that require no adjustment when switching. But the Elacs are a known neutral sound and pretty flat so they'll remain my reference. The coaxial tweeter-mid really does tighten the beam of sound.

    • @MelanicWarrior
      @MelanicWarrior  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am going to try swapping the speakers for a better comparison next weekend. Thanks for the tip!

    • @johnnyhiett
      @johnnyhiett 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Elac 2.0 is on sale now at $419 a pair! That's about the true value. I paid about $525.
      These speakers essentially have neutral baffle sound. They do have a harmonic ring. To get some room reinforcement...experiment. try placing them tight into a corner firing at close to 45 degrees. That way the walls will act like a horn. Other owners have found some audio magic this way. enjoy

      That was my first thought that they were out in the open and the Dali's had a wall behind them. Of course they sound drastically different!

  • @brianpayne

    I have the Dali 3s, but I'm really impressed by Elacs 2.0s too. The sax on the Elacs is more more forward, expressive with reed-breathy detail, while the rim shots have more snap. The Dalis seem warmer, but more recessed. I'm wondering how much of a factor speaker placement was, with the Dalis backed by a wall (at the recommended distance) and Elacs in the open. Nice system in the background too. Thanks for the comparison, though.

    • @MelanicWarrior
      @MelanicWarrior  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Dali’s, in my opinion, are great for two channel music, whereas the Elac’s may be better for movies, especially when you consider tat they are $300 cheaper.

  • @hellhound59
    @hellhound59 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for the video. The recording sounds nice. Haven’t heard a jazz version of that song, just sting/police. What are you recording these with? Are you happy with the upper kids and treble on both of these? Both sound dynamic, but I can’t handle much brightness.

    • @MelanicWarrior
      @MelanicWarrior  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I am cool with the treble -- as well as the overall sound -- on the Dali's. They are very balanced musically and they are so much more "alive and dynamic" than the Elacs. As for the Dali's, they don't require toeing in or out and they were voiced with the grill on when they were being built. Therefore, any problem one may have with brightness can be remedied by putting the grills on. I also have tone controls as well as source direct on my amplifier that allows me to compensate for music that is inordinately bright. To conclude, I believe the Dali is much more suited to two-channel music whereas the Elac is a speaker that is more comfortable in a home theater environment. That is just my humble opinion.

    I appreciate you posting this but if you want to have any chance at all to make this work you have to place the speakers at the same place. And even then a lot of people will tell you these videos are useless. And they are not completely wrong. But not completely right either imo as you can still get some info from these sound test. Anyway, just though I'd let you know. Thanks.

      Honestly I do it because I enjoy doing. It’s really hard to give people what I hope they would without professional mics. Still, there may be some who derive some value from them, but I get your point. Peace!

    Dali are cheating, adding a punch and spatial emphasis thats not there. May not be most faithful to the source, but sure it is lot of fun. On the other hand, if u want track to be correct and boring, you would go for monitors, while most want fun in their living room.

      Placement could be the reason. This is probably not a fair comparison. I wish he would re-do this placing them next to each other.
