    • @mgecko2959
      @mgecko2959 6 ปีที่แล้ว +52

      Too soon to say. He has potential, talent and is part of Ferrari young driver programme but lets not forget last time any driver of this calibre and experience level joined Ferrari It was probably Massa in 2006. Also fair to say that Sauber was at that time bit more competitive and Massa was able to showcase his skill against drivers from midfield teams. Another thing that is important - there was way less talent in F1 in 2005 than you have today and Ferrari didn't had as much of a choice as they do today. It was either Massa or Heidfeld/Webber/Button. Kimi was taken by McLaren and Alonso by Renault (best team at that time). There was DC who didn't prove himself at McLaren or guys who were about to retire like Ralf Schumacher, Villeneuve or Montoya. Rest of the grid was simply poor with guys like Karthikeyan, Wurz, Monteiro or Liuzzi, stars like Hamilton, Vettel, Kubica or Rosberg were about to join year or two later. These days you have guys like Ocon, Verstappen, Ricciardo, Hulkenberg or Sainz that can take that seat for years to come.

    I think this has been said a few times now, but:
    I really like Will Buxton and I think the drivers like him as well. They respect him as he is there as someone to have a chat with, and it is recorded and for tv, but he makes it more like a conversation between fan/friend and driver.
    He is interested, actually interested and honest with them, saying when he thinks someone didn´t do well but also gives credit without showing to much bias.
    You can see at the end how Charles enjoyed this in some way and I must say to watch these Paddock-Pass edition and these interviews - Will you do a great job!
    It´s really good to have journalism and interviewers like this in a sport!

    Excellent Interview Will Buxton!
    This is how other Formula One drivers should portray themselves to the public. I know that would not be very realistic, but this was actually a very comfortable interview to watch, and a great way to get to "know" one of the up and coming drivers on the Grid.
    Kudos to you Will, but also to Charles Leclerc for giving such a mature interview, and not letting his nerves get the better of him. The pressure on him at this race must be tremendous, yet it just seemed like any other day, having a conversation with a good friend.
    Congratulations again, and Good luck in the Gran Prix Charles.

    Not hating or anything, but every driver is likeable when they're an up and coming talented rookie. They all have their stories which make them even more likeable. But when they get to the top teams and start winning races they'll get alot of hate. When they then crash out a few times or take somebody else out the hate goes through the roof. Hamilton used to be the poor kid that made a dream come through but shortly after his succes he was already being hated for alot of reasons. Look at Verstappen: Used to be one of the most exciting drivers in the midfield in that Toro Rosso gaining praise from everyone. Gone to Red Bull, immediately wins the race. After that though, people really started nitpicking on every single thing he did wrong in their eyes. Every move in the breaking zone, every time he made contact... I mean look at the start of this season. People went from loving him to calling him the next Maldonado and a crash kid, after just 4 races. And this was the guy that absolutely schooled all drivers in the rain in Brazil 2016 when he was only just 19 years old. However, after 3/4 races in this season he is now all of the sudden one of the most hated drivers. Vettel had a similar story too.
    Soneven though Leclerc is now being loved by everyone, expect him to be the next on the hate list whenever he gets that Ferrari seat.

    • @manss_
      @manss_ 6 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      A uselessy long panegyric to incorrectly generalize - hate is earned on track. Both Hamilton and Verstappen used to drive dirtily and be arrogant, thus attracting the antipathy of many. If Leclerc will abstain from doing any of this, he will simply keep getting the deserved respect.

    • @mgecko2959
      @mgecko2959 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Its because most people support their views on things with what was said on TV and because people lack understanding of how F1 works. Majority of F1 fan community is clueless and they allow the hype to get into them. Additional factor - professional haters and fanboys that lack objectivity and just repeat what they heard on TV or even worse read in the comments on YT.
      Also you actually brought two really bad examples because Hamilton and Verstappen changed a lot since they joined F1. Hamilton more than Verstappen but obviously he is longer in F1 so he had more time to change. But he changed and you cant expect people to look at him in same way as they looked at him in 2007. I for example personally really liked him in 2007 but it was changing with time and now he is one of my least favourite drivers of the track. However since im not a hater i can objectively say he is one of the best drivers in history (4th on my personal all time list). So i don't hate Hamilton and i don't hate on him, i just dislike him because he isn't my cup of tea of the track.
      When it comes to Verstappen im big fan of his talent since he started racing in STR. However i wasn't on that "absolutely amazed" train, i still had some concerns about his driving style but in this absolute madness of the hype nobody would listen. Lets face it, most Verstappen fanboys still believe his overtake on Kimi was completely legal and FiA fucked him up "as they always do". When you only mentioned that his driving style is bit reckless people were instantly hating on you because "he is biggest talent since Senna" period. Now he made like 6 major mistakes and crashed 5 times in first 4 GP's and you still cant criticize him? I mean some people will wait in silence and at the right moment they can say "I told you so". On top of that as his talents fan i think little criticism will only make him good but fanboys cant stand few jokes about him. Truth is that his skill was overrated from beginning and that's the fault of fanboys who cant see their hero makes mistakes like every other human in history of earth and cant distinguish between talent and achievements.
      Last but not least you said that people calling him next Maldonado after he wowed everyone in Brasil 2016. So you should most likely look at the similarities, Maldonado when first came to F1 was very impressive, in his very first race in average Williams he was fighting Alonso's Ferrari for P5, he won in that crappy Williams at Spain 2012 something Max never did in STR (didn't even had a podium). But his "WOW" performances were in shadow of his crashes and Max is exactly the same. One unbelievable performance, few great results and overtakes and then plenty of unsafe manoeuvres finished with 5 crashes in 4 GP's and all of them because of his ego. Just like Pastor, had speed to overtake cleanly if he waited for lap or two but was too eager to go for gap that doesn't exists and crashed. Verstappen's start of this season is probably one of the worst 4 consecutive GP performances from star driver so obviously he deserved to be criticized and people have valid point calling him next Maldonado.

      Max Lodder it's a good observation. Look at how happy people were for Vettel when he won at Monza with Toro Rosso, but that goodwill didn't last. Ricciardo seems to be an exception as he's so charming people just can't hate on him. Mind you, he's not won a championship yet.

    Looks like he's a really nice and down to earth guy. Sounds like the same is happening in Monaco as is in Silicon Valley - gentrification, where locals find themselves living in a super expensive world, completely incomparable with "how it used to be". I've never been to Monaco but would be interesting to see what it's actually like outside the super rich areas. What's life and prices like there.
    Mad props to the cameraman though - walking through half the Monaco backwards! :D These videos are great. It's long overdue, in my view, to show us the normal side of the sport too, not just the pre/post race shows, celebrities and what not. I want to see what happens behind the scenes and this is exactly what the doctor prescribed.

    • @mgecko2959
      @mgecko2959 6 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      Palondrian its not the only reason, rich people like to be around other rich people in prestigious and luxury places. In NY you have richest people living right next to Central Park because you have best views, best restaurants with fancy dishes from world class chefs, because there are buildings with doorman, because celebrities and stars are living next door and because they can brag to their friends about all of above.
      And yes them places are usually in so called "tax paradises" but not always. Also just because they have house in there doesn't mean they need to pay all their income taxes there, most drivers have properties around the world and they can choose where they state their income. As far as i know Hamilton had some trouble with tax office in UK so that would suggest he is paying his taxes there.
      Also prizes of houses in Monaco are extremely high so obviously its about prestige not only about saving money on taxes. If they bought simular house in least prestigious place they would pay for it 10 times less money and wouldn't have to worry about paying tax for years.
