Rob, You documented a very important piece of agricultural history with your very nicely filmed and narrated video. Thank you. Our family farmed tobacco near Mt. Brydges, Ontario, from the mid fifties to the mid seventies. There were other Lithuanian farmers in the area (as well as in Delhi and Rodney). It was a great way for students to make money over the summer. The jobs paid well, and the hard work prepared you for life.
Your video is a great reminder of the value of patience and perseverance. It takes a lot of time and effort to grow and harvest melons and oranges, but the end result is so worth it. And the fact that you're able to make a living by selling them at the market is even more impressive. Keep up the great work! did this for 2 summers in the Aylmer ON. area. 17 and 18 years old at the time. that was about '94 to '95. long time ago but this takes me right back. lol. The money was good. work was hard, but you couldn't beat the pay for that age.
I bought my fist car with that money. I paid 7000 bucks that I saved over those 2 years. Young bucks (as my tobacco boss Martin said) these days could never do that job. they would all quite in 20 min.

Farmer by the name of George Mikula, harvested with a horse pulling a tobacco boat.
