I lived on Schuyler Street in the mid 1970s. More than once a conductor or brakeman would walk the street banging on doors trying to find who ever had a vehicle in the way of the train. When we were first married my mother-in-law came for a visit. We were getting ready to go to dinner and soon we heard the horn, we walked to the porch on the front of the house and my mother in law seeing the train asked what we do, so we told her, wave to the engineer so she did. He gave her a brief toot of the horn . We waited on the porch till he cleared the street and went off to dinner.
Nothing like the sound of an EMD. The only downside about railroads that run along streets is in the winter trains are exposed to the same rock salt to melt snow that road vehicles are exposed to.
@@James_Knott Well Railroading Rambler has told the story about how it came to be. He used the term for the residents as being "railroaded". And to that I say, Indeed!
I don’t know about this particular case, but in many of these situations the railroad already existed as the town grew around it. And it was before automobiles, so it wasn’t cramped by parked cars.
@ontheroad5317 As Railroading Rambler tells the story, not exactly the case here. In the late 1860s the town of Utica decided to give the railroad an easement for track inside the town's "easement" for the road. The then residents of Schuyler street protested the 'fast one" by the town, to no avail. Syracuse court told the residents 'basically' to pound sand. That's how it came to be. If parked cars on SS narrowed by snow banks an issue now, any blame goes to the city, imo.
Really?? I live 3 miles from FEC tracks where Briteline runs. Hardly a month goes by where som asshole goes around the gates at a crossing with predictable results. YOU CAN'T STOP A TRAIN ON A DIME.
We got up to about 6° in Milwaukee how I believe we have about a negative 20 for a wind chill and tomorrow is to be even worse. This is when the train crew hopes the cab heater works decently. I'm sure that Witold asked for an extra blanket and that there was a fire in the fireplace. Bundle up thanks for the Trackside entertainment
I would've strolled on through with train bcuz the extra snow takes up parking space but those people don't care. Signs should be posted when there's a significant amount of snow or shovel it out. Trains aren't supposed to give acceptions to those people.

Thank you for braving the cold!
Your videos are such a blessing to me. So cozy to watch from my home in Southern Oregon. Thank you!
Hi from York, England! Looks like a great day in Utica for train videoing in the snow. The crew certainly had a close call!
Another great looking video with crisp images and a steady shot. Very nice.
Greetings from Northern California. I have some history in this area since t
I grew up in Sherrill. I check in once and a while, cheers and go Bills!
Great video. I always enjoy seeing this.
Thank you for another wintry street running RR video. It's 4F here in NJ with 4 inches of the white stuff. A good old-fashioned winter.

I suppose they have to stop if they can but he was too polite with the train horn. 😂
Crazy mixing trains and cars like that.
Fwiw, I completely agree!
@@faxmen09 I've seen that in industrial areas, but not residential,

it was very nice of the crew to be so cautious. Brightline never would have done that😁

Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Sublime video. 🇦🇺
Ah...the good ole SusieQ hard at work... one of my favorite railroads to photograph 📸 used to have a blast chasing them all around Binghamton..
Another good one! THANKS!
How thrilling to have trains travelling down the middle of the road! This doesn’t tend to happen in the UK.
Great video from Okeechobee Florida.
Thanks... watching from Miami.

Amazing love the white stuff ( snow ) hardly ever see any. Regards from Scotland.
The first car has strobing corner lamps- street running and undercover detective work in this vid!
Greetings from South Ripley 3 degrees wind chill -25
Great View train in Roads ❤😮
I feel sorry for train crew. As usual, AWESOME video!Thank you
Forgot to say, you & Witold stay warm.
John, I can see it from Pikes Peek here in Colorado that a peace of paper from the Boxcar will fit .😮😂
Will be back soon.
Hi from a bar in Hua hin, on the Gulf of Thailand. 32c (90f)😂.
9 degrees - and all that salt - no thanks! But great video 👍
Greetings from Tonawanda NY! Now featuring arctic 🥶 cold! Why does Utica allow on street parking?
Probably because these houses predate garages and driveways.
wow what a cool place to live.
You can hear the wheels running over the salt, sand, and debris from the snowy roadway.
Watching from 27 degree high North Carolina
Btw when are they coming north to plow? Someone posted a video of the train busting drift at the north Remsen crossing
Close shave indeed! 🤔 Have they ever had to have someone move because they were blocking the rails? Watching from chilly Rome NY
Brrrrrr!
Yes, it’s a common occurrence for the crew to do that
Oh, you really didn’t need that side view mirror.

Those cars r in a bad spot
If these people were worried about their cars, why park them there.
Those people are either REALLY good at judging distances or really STUPID. Too bad the crews have to put up with that.
I would at took my car around the block!!!
NEIGHBORHOOD""""TAXI""""100%%%
Hey rail rambler those braindead people should have moved cars instead of just watching them. Wish it would stay at 30 degrees all winter.
They shouldn’t be parked there their problem !🤬🤬🤬🤬
Yeah , especially if they only live there, they shouldn't have any rights. 🙄
Yeah, even if they live there they shouldn't have any rights! 🙄
This was really a close call going by the parked cars but glad it made
it by without any damages thanks.☕🚂🚃🚃🇺🇲
