    Listen to that door shut; what a wonderful and tight sound!

    I had a 71 Galaxie 500 4-door hardtop that I bought in 73. I loved that car. It was red with a black vinyl top and a black interior. It had A/C, power steering and brakes, and pretty much nothing else in the way of equipment.

      This galaxie 500 was as basic as they come to, no ac or power windows but drives like a dream

    Nice car. Always liked these things. Hard to find even when new. They just weren't around where I lived. Even back then, it was 10:1 pickup trucks over cars. Still is here. The Dodge Charger was the last good sedan. Everything else are those damned SUV things.

      I agree, why does everyone now want an SUV, give me an old fashioned station wagon instead of an SUV, just a normal 4 door saloon is now marketed by the manufacturers as an SUV and gullible people fall for it

    Beautiful.

    This side profile is beyond beautiful. The US had a gorgeous car culture, sadly it seems like it has gone away. Their cars are still massive, but have less of an own character than decades ago.

      @@marcfuchs6938 I agree the cars America made years ago had style but today that has all gone, I can’t get excited with any new car produced today

    It's amazing what little on small components actually changed at all in the 70's. I daily a 78' LTD and there's a lotta things that carried over. I'd love me a 70-71 Galaxy or LTD though. Awesome body style on those early years but the platform in general just rides so smooth. Love yours, mine is in a mint green too! ... albeit I think mine has a tad more silver.

    • @MrThompsonusa
      @MrThompsonusa  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree, simple things work fine, today they have made cars more complicated so it’s more expensive to repair. The 70’s cars is when they got it right

    • @SirEpifire
      @SirEpifire 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MrThompsonusa Yeah agreed. I've been doing almost all of my own body/mechanical work now and these cars make that a rewarding venture. I really got into the restomod scene as we've got 50 years of extra improvements to be made on the tried and true. If you're fine with deviating a little from stock, you can work these engines and drivetrains over to be much more efficient. Just let the motor breath and get a modern transmission with OD and lockup. If you don't overcam it, there's no reason you can't get an easy 20mpg out of them. Plus there's some natural power improvements simply because it's not being choked on emissions garbage. They might be heavy cars but there's something about simplicity that really makes them a joy for me.

    these were such ergonomically pleasing cars to drive - comfortable, smooth, quite. not necessarily fancy, high performance nor fast, but a great all around car the average person could actually afford. make sure to keep them dry as possible though - they would rust horribly if not maintained underneath.

    I always saw one of these, a 4 door, in the parking lot of a store I frequented for years. It was a local hardware store, not a chain. Same green, with dark green velour interior. I was going to make an offer to the owner, but I stopped seeing it all of a sudden and got a 1969 Cadillac instead. Still hoping to get my paws on it someday....

    Had an ltd same year. 429, C6 trans, 9" locker. Was a tire fryer. Was also a biodegradable car -- every time it rained I got better gas mileage cause the rust made it lighter.

    Had one back in 1973. Kept it for about 6 months. I didn’t have much luck with it. Identical body style except it was a custom 500 in a gold colour. I liked driving it, peppy and could cruise along at over 100 mph! Should have seen how quick other cars got out of my way at night time! Figured it was a cop car I suppose. I was young and stupid then and now only stupid. I think if you had got the snow shovel out and cleaned up the snow bank it might have been a little easier to get under the cover. Cheers👍

      Nothing was perfect back then. Build quality and reliability has come a long way. But, it's fun to get nostalgic about these cars from our past. They may not be the fastest or most reliable, but they bring back memories. I prefer to remember the good times, even when it comes to less-than-reliable cars, because they were all like that in the 1970s.
