Assam: Current Bodo Political Scene - archival footage of Assam Accord 1985, up to 1990

- On the 15th of August 1985, these words of Rajiv Gandhi seemingly brought to an end one of the longest agitations in Assam. An agitation which claimed hundreds of lives and had brought the economic growth of the state to a standstill but signing of the Assam Accord a new beginning was promised the Accord address itself to the principal issues of contention the infiltration of foreigners in Assam the economic package for all round development and the protection of Assamese culture and tradition.
The effort then began to identify the foreigners as per the conditions agreed to in the Accord. Those who immigrated prior to 1996 were to be given Indian citizenship. Immigrants who came into Assam between 1966 and 1971 were to be disenfranchised for 10 years. Those arriving after 1971 were to be deported.
The 1985 elections saw the agitation leaders become the new political masters of Assam. It was from this campus of Guwahati University a young band of student leaders has marshal their forces and mobilize the people's movement to challenge the government and paralyze administration. Now, these leaders were the cabinet ministers of Assam Gana Parishad Movement.

You see even after lndian lndependence bodo community is Split into new tribe by assamese bamuns . New community is known as sarania kachari. No step was taken by assam govt. Bodo became minority. 4 lakh 50000 bigahs were illegaly migrated by non-tribals . We would have been happy if it does not happen to us from assamese.

We koch people of upper assam and many kalitas too are also such only. The saru koch of upper assam is same as saraniya kachari of lower assam.

This Congress Govt. Just passed the BILL ASSAM ACCORD 1985 on paper but never this notorious govt. never exercised the articles of the accord against the illegal immigrants of Bangladesh. Instead of driving out the foreigners from Assam they invited and paved the way to Assam and till today the peoples of Assam are facing the problems from the illegal Bangladesh nationals. This Congress govt. had destroyed not only the security n politics of Assam but other states also.... So, as they sowed they reaped... And both indra gandhi Mother and Son rajiv Gandhi had to pay the compensation for the peoples who had been victimized by the dirty politics of Congress.
But bodo being borne n brought up in assam don't get equality right... Assamese r dominating us which is nt acceptable at all..
