  • In this sixth installment of my “introduction to classic cross-country skiing” series of videos, I discuss the proper use and timing of your xc ski poles while classic skiing (aka diagonal striding). This a good overview of poling concepts for classic skiing. I'm sure there are details that I've omitted, but this'll get you in the ballpark and provide food for thought for further study and training.
As always, post your feedback and questions in the comment section below, and I will answer as quickly and thoroughly as I possibly can.
I highly recommend watching the first three parts of my intro to classic cross-country skiing series if you haven't already. In this video, I refer back to many of the concepts I previously covered in those first three installments.
    • Part 1: Characteristics of Classic Cross-Country Skis ( • Intro to Classic XC Sk... )
    • Part 2: Learning to Move Forward by Pushing Off ( • Intro to Classic XC Sk... )

In this video, I was using Fischer Excursion 88mm skis, NNN BC Magnum bindings, and a pair of Fischer OTX Adventure boots.

I've produced this collection of articles and videos about backcountry travel and exploration with the beginner and intermediate adventurer in mind. This is the demographic for whom I most often served while working in the Lake Tahoe outdoor recreation industry. In essence, these informational projects I create and publish are extensions of the many conversations we've had over the years.
Please note that, although I encourage you to venture out of your comfort zone, you need to know your limits and when to turn back. Tahoe Trail Guide and its contributors are not liable for property loss or damage, personal injury, or death. Always consult multiple sources when venturing into the backcountry. Always be prepared for the worst case scenario. Your safety is your responsibility.

The best takeaway for me is at minute 15 where you say "Place the tips of your poles at, or slightly behind your feet!" Thanks....just what I needed.

Thank you for tuning in, and for the nice comment. I appreciate it :)
And eventually I'll get the double pole part produced. This winter just took an interesting turn with all of the snow that we've received here at Lake Tahoe. Not complaining, but I've just spent so much time dealing with the snow (shoveling, driving) that I've had to table a number of my planned projects. But I'll get it done eventually.
Thanks again for the support :)

Very cool, Lisa :) I hope you get lots of snow!
We're supposed to have another good storm here in Tahoe beginning some time later tonight. Crossing my fingers that it'll be significant :)

I hope it starts soon for you :)
We're supposed to be having a significant storm starting tonight and lasting into Wednesday. I'm crossing my fingers because a lot of the snow that Tahoe received during the days that I filmed this video has already melted. It's still relatively early, though.
Thanks for watching, and great to hear from you again!
