We did baby led weaning I guess with Lincoln (I just did what felt right to us and adjusted as needed!) and Lincoln is a PHENOMENAL EATER. Follow your gut, momma! You got this!! Babies feel your energy around this! We gave Lincoln what we had for dinner for the most part, and he still has such joy prepping, serving and even cleaning up after a meal. Such a fun stage!

Baby lead weaning is the best way to feed your baby! We started with some purees just to get our son used to the taste of something other than milk but then for the most part we would just feed him what we were eating (in safe sizes and shapes). It made him a great eater and he will eat almost anything now. It was so easy to never have to worry about bringing specific baby food when we were out because he would just eat whatever we had. I recommend it to everyone.

Baby led weaning. My kids are 6 and 10 now. My oldest we did mostly purees because baby led weaning wasn't a "thing" yet and I wanted to bust out my food processor and make all of her own food. For my son, we did baby led weaning along with vegetable purees. I knew from experience that kids are drawn to fruits so I was not worried about them getting a palate for fruit. Getting familiar and comfortable for vegetables was so we did purees and safely cut pieces of vegetables and safe sizes of fruits. My oldest loves any kind of foods, my 6 year old son got picky about vegetables once he started school and his friends made comments. Otherwise, my kids love their veggies and fruits. Good luck. New foods is such a fun and exciting milestone :)

Hi Blair! We did a hybrid of baby led weaning and puree and you're doing a fantastic job! For us it basically meant just letting our baby try foods and not telling them they can't have 'real' food when they want it instead of the puree, but supplementing the puree so that they can fill up on food! You do you, whatever works for you, but a friendly word of advice, if Nora were to have an allergic reaction to any food it would be so much easier to figure out what gave her said reaction if you only gave her one new food every couple of days... just something to consider! I love watching your videos and your marriage reminds me so much of my own! Happy to see new vlogs popping up and i'm currently going through your archives and catching up!

Hi Blair! We've been doing BLW with our almost 11-month-old since he was 6 months and have loved it. I joined a Facebook group called baby Led Weaning for Beginners & Beyond and as was incredibly helpful to see what others do. There are parents there from all over the world, which I've enjoyed. They are a strict no puree group, but I'm a firm believer in 'you do you and I'll do me'; and we did purees when we wanted/needed. Enjoy the journey - it's so fun!

Nora is the happiest baby! My oldest (of 3) was the easiest baby ever. He's now almost 13 and still is the easiest kid of all. My 2nd (middle) was by far the most difficult. He was and still is a total momma's boy and hated my husband. Then came along Cora, my 3rd and she was pretty easy. I'm convinced that God gives us easy ones at first so we'll have more!

I did baby led weaning with both of my kids and it was one of the best decisions I ever made as a mom. Well, at least when they were little. :) My kids are now 9 and 6. I babysat two little girls (before having kids) and the one girl, who was months younger than the other little girl, was doing BLW. I would just prepare her meal and give it to her. I had to spoon feed the other child. The stark contrast was very eye opening and we chose to pursue BLW when we had children. I was even interviewed by our local newspaper and our son made the cover of the paper. The article was all about BLW. I found the best book about the topic is Baby-Led Weaning - The Essential Guide by Gill Rapley and Tracey Murkett. I gave it to several mom friends who wanted to do BLW with their kids after seeing it from my own children. That book goes into why babies were ever given purees in the first place. And once you see the why behind it all, it makes moving forward with BLW all the more better. BLW has grown in popularity since my children were babies but I found that when my babies were being given solid foods versus purees - we had to know the "why" behind why we were choosing this alternative form of feeding. I'd highly recommend reading the chapter on chocking vs gagging and your role as a caregiver in that process. It can be scary to see but the ability for a baby to bring up food that they may have taken too big of a bite of is incredible. The book really walks you in depth on that subject because when you are in the thick of it, it can seem scary. A baby only has one or two episodes of gagging before they "get" not to take a huge bite of food or work the food around in their mouth before swallowing. I'd also recommend following the guidelines about when to introduce certain foods. There are different reflexes that have or haven't developed that you'll want to be aware of especially when giving certain foods - reflexes like the pincer grip. We chose to BLW exclusively and skipped all baby cereals and purees and instead I just fixed my babies what we made for dinner. It was so easy. They just sat with us and enjoyed their meal. One note - BLW is very messy. That's part of the process of babies learning to self feed. I used to strip by babies down to their diaper because they were easy to just put in the sink to wash off after a meal. We kept their clothes in great condition because of that. After dinner, my babies got a bath. We had some of those plastic or silicone bibs that had a pocket at the bottom that helped catch the food. That was helpful because it helps with the food waste in general. Sometimes they just miss their mouth and it lands in the bib rather than the floor. Whatever you do, you know Nora best. You'll make the right decisions for her and whatever or however you feed her, it will be so fun to discover the process with her.

We love BLW. Charlotte is 8 months and people are amazed at what she can eat. The only down about it is that people are constantly saying “that food is so big, cut smaller”. I have to constant remind them that it needs to be finger length because her pincher isn’t there yet. When they start solids earlier than “other kids” they fist the whole food and chew on it rather than use their fingers to pick it up and chew on the pieces individually. My biggest advice to anyone is to watch TH-cam videos on gagging verses choking. This is so, so important. If you react to a baby who is gagging you could accidentally cause them to choke. Gagging is normal. Hope Nora does amazing!

I make iced tea from scratch all the time! I clamp the strings of the tea bags onto the side of the Pyrex container with a wire chip clip. That keeps them from falling into the water when you’re pouring it in. Hope that tip helps next time you make it!

We initially started with purées. Once I felt that my little guy mastered purees & noticed him grabbing for the spoon/wanting to feed himself (around 7 months), I moved to baby led weaning. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with doing a hybrid of both! Pinterest has been a great resource and it’s what I use the most. I like being able to quickly scroll through and see photos of how other people prepare different foods. TH-cam was also helpful in the beginning to hear about different peoples’ experiences with baby led weaning.

We did a mix of purees and baby led weaning with both our girls! I think the biggest tip I have is we pretty much fed and still do what we eat just on a softer scale. We eat pretty healthy so I felt comfortable doing it that way! One thing I was very passionate about was the high allergen type foods so I asked my pediatrician and she recommended to start introducing them a week at a time starting at 6 months! Nora is just adorable!

We did BLW with both kids and loved it! We would just cut up anything we ate. A tip for you though- we had the same high chair and although I did love it, it gets so messy when eating. The baby will grind food into that fabric on the handles. It's an ordeal to take a part and wash in the machine and it would always keep a little funky smell to it. Also from all the wiping between washes, it added moisture and the metal pieces started to rust. I suggest getting another chair that is all plastic for eating. IKEA has a cute one. And use the other one for travel and for dry snacks and playing like you do now! Food is fun but so so messy. I always said I missed the days were our kids just nursed 😆🥰

I suggest putting carrots, sweet potatoes, and potatoes in the instant pot. Then blend separately and place in silicone ice cube trays to freeze. Broccoli and green beans should be “1 min” in the instant pot too. Peel and slice apples and add pitted dates in the instant pot as well. Blend and then freeze in ice cube trays. The instant pot is easier than keeping track of the stovetop.

Love Nora trying her solids! My fiancé and I both grew up as fairly picky eaters - I have since improved, but he is still very picky. I’m adamant that if we have babies I want to try baby-led weaning, and I can totally see him being like Riley - “carrots suck!” 😂

I now use Billie. It is comparable to the Schick Hydro and the moisturizing stripe doesn't melt off like other brands. I would say it work fairly well. I love how easy it is to magnetize it in the shower to keep it from getting rusty. The razor itself is much cheaper then the name brand and the refills are also much cheaper but just as good. I like the little cases for the blades so you can throw it away safely. I also have bought from them a carrying case for travel which was nice. I got their shave gel too but that I wasn't too thrilled with. My only real complaint is that sometimes at the right angle the razor will pop off while shaving.

the best advice comes form an old school mom tip (I got mine from my mom) ... Basically, feed your baby. watch her signals, if she likes it, she will eat, if not, she won't. If you like how something tastes and it's a safe and supervised size, she will eat. Babies will eat as long as they are hungry, when she pushes back or refuses, she is done. no interest in the texture, mash or puree it. Natural foods that your family eats, she will eat..

We did a hybrid too! We started with some cereal/purées at 4 months -6 months a few avocado pieces, banana things like that. Then at 6 months we started feeding him just bits of whatever we ate for dinner. I would boil it to make it softer for him if it was hard. Puffs are fun I call them baby Cheetos haha. Now he’s 10.5 months and eats anything we eat. He’s a foodie, we just had fun with it. We also do the I provide he decides what he eats meaning we put food on his plate and then he decides what he eats and how much! She’s such a cutie! Love the vlogs!

My husband said you can replace the racks on the dishwasher but you make check the price because it may just be about the same as replacing the whole dishwasher. They rust because it’s just a rubber coating so it’s nothing you are doing. You can’t put caps on them because they will just blow off from the water pressure. Hope this helps!

I forgot to add two things I wanted to recommend! First is the Libby app. You sync it to your library card and you can borrow e-books and audio books. I've been using it since the shut down and loving it. Second is a teething bib for Nora. I found mine on Amazon years back and the bib has a silicone triangle at the end that she could chew on as she's teething. I believe they came in sets of 2.

Love Billie razors! I’m allergic to nickel and these razors are nickel free and give such a smooth shave. I was trying to convince everyone to buy them because they are so affordable and the best razors.. no one listened lol. I ended up gifting my sisters and mom the razors for Christmas because I think they are incredible. My best friend text me last week saying she finally caved and bought them and she is trying to get her mom on them too lol. Anyways, being allergic to nickel and sensitive to metals always makes shaving so difficult and irritating so it’s great to be able to actually shave more than once a week lol. I don’t know if that’s tmi.. 🤷🏻‍♀️

We BLW our son - he is 19 months old now and eats EVERYTHING. Be careful with doing hybrid because often times it actually causes baby to choke more. BLW encourages chewing then swallowing where as mashed foods encourages them to just swallow and not chew, mixing the two can confuse them and they may end up choking on something because they didnt chew it when they should have. Things that are naturally mush are fine! My son at about 7 months was feeding himself applesauce with a spoon, but he also was literally devouring steak at 6 months hahah. Best thing weve ever done - 100%!! Above everything else, lol the convenience of it is amazing! you never have to pack baby food jars or extra things for them - you literally just give them whatever you are having! Its great!!

Hi Blair! Thank you for sending all your blessings and love, they definitely made their way to Canada! Life is weird right now but I am feeling better. Back in March, the last week of work, I saw things fall apart and I had to lay off employees and then I was laid off (until September). I cried almost every day. Though I followed your channel before this craziness, I found comfort in your recent videos and started to feel better. Some days are great; some days not so great. Sometimes i say “I don’t feel ok today” and ask for support from family. I am sending you back well wishes from Canada and I send all my blessing to my southern neighbours. Stay well but be ok if not.

I have found so many great ideas, tools, and recipes for him on BabyFoode.com, she also has a book available. We haven't bought it, but might soon. I love all her recipes so far and I have purchased a few of her recommended tools. So far Hudson's favorites are sweet potatoes and apples (with cinnamon). We did a puree / baby led weaning hybrid with our two girls. Basically, we used our slow cooker to make all kids of soups / curries / casseroles which we all ate at home, but we would use the puree pouches / jarred puree food for convenience when out and about. Some of our girls' favorite foods (they are 3 and 5 now) are the same foods we first gave them as 6 month olds :) We loved the process of introducing foods to our babies--but we were pretty relaxed about it too. Some days they were super adventurous, other days they ate a mashed banana. It's all good. So happy to see your girl beginning to enjoy food too. Thanks for the video!

Aww the early weaning days are so much fun! Messy, but the best! We found that our son didn't take to purees, and we followed his lead and found that BLW worked really well for him. He didn't like being spoon fed at all and always liked the independence of putting the food in his mouth himself, so chunks worked well. I'd recommend trying different textures with Nora and exposing her to as many different flavours as possible. Even if she rejects it, keep trying. I read that a lot of babies are more open to different foods in the early months. And then they turn fussy! My son is now super fussy!
I do love your coffee set-up. It's been my daily luxury too. :)

hi there guys, we are celebrating our 17th wedding anniversary today! totally not minding staying low key.... since my hubby said that he read in yahoo news that our county... san bernardino co. is among the new three identified "hot spots" for cv in the US! yikes!! .... along with west palm beach and a county in alabama. sooooo, yesterday we just enjoyed the afternoon at my mom's pool plus taking a drive around our various shopping centers. our county lifted the ban of requiring masks about two wks ago... and it was totally evident just seeing the amount of ppl out and about! (more folks w/o masks now!) we have a lot of hope for a vaccine but are even more super cautious w/ the virus being literally right outside our doorstep. however, i am sooooo super thankful that right after our lil princie's big bday party early feb... i bought N's huge x-large jumper from the rental company. so grateful for it now. in our concrete and astro turf backyard we have collected a ton of fun stuff for him that we're super duper grateful for now ...our lil guy also has a big therapy swing (like a circular hammock), lil basket ball court areas, trampoline, giant bowling set, lil playhouse, slide, cornhole set, and a big plastic "roller coaster" w/ car/ramp ...(like the ones they have at indoor play places). We are prepared to stay hunkered down.... not really "thrilled" like many folks, of the country opening up... seems way too early with all of the # of cases still rising....

I just ordered my Billie. I'm excited to try it. Nora trying new foods and her reactions are so cute. She's growing up so fast!! 🥰

When you said baby-led weaning, I kept hearing baby-led meeting, and pictured a Zoom meeting with a bunch of babies! Can you tell I’ve been working from home for too long?! Thanks for sharing; I love seeing you and sweet Nora!

I have been wanting to try a Billie razor, so maybe now I’ll give it a shot!

My daughter loves carrots too! When she was 6 months old I also started her on yogurt. I used the Stonyfield organic brand. She just turned 4 yesterday so I'm trying to think of all the foods we started out with. She wasn't a fan of pureed peaches, I do remember that! I had tried the Billie razor and I loved it, but the razor head kept falling off the handle. I received a replacement handle and the same thing happened! I bought the Gillette Venus sensitive skin razor and it's been great! I like the idea of the cleaning list. I had a couple of days where I didn't care about cleaning, which is not like me at all. Being stuck inside is not fun. You gave me the motivation I needed!

Noras face when she eats the carrots - so cute :) I learned to put high quality oil into the baby food, but I don‘t know if this is recommended everywhere. Thanks for sharing your day in the life series - love it 💕

I love the way Nora is so attentive when you and Riley talk to her! She’s adorable and such a happy baby! I miss that time! I keep hearing about the razors so maybe I’ll give it a try!

Okay, yes, the Billie hype is REAL. The closest shave, no irritation...I’ve never loved a razor so much (a razor is a razor, right?). And I used to get the itchy leg thing too!

“carrots sUUUck” 😂 I say caramel the same way you do (from California also moved to Texas.) omg I need to try Billie because I’m the same way. Super sensitive skin and have a weird fear of razor cuts (I know).

That must have been some really strong iced tea LOL! I've been into brewing herbal teas, as iced tea. I currently have a pitcher of blueberry tea in the fridge. Delicious! Nora didn't look too thrilled with the bananas, but at least she liked the carrots :-) Have you given her sweet potatoes yet? Both of my kids loved them as one of their first foods.

SnackswithJax is a FANTASTIC account to follow on Instagram for BLW! We LOVE LOVE LOVE her ! She’s 100% keep it real - healthy meals but sometimes “let’s just order pizza”. Lots of good advice and ideas and she does stories almost every day about what’s she making for dinner and she lets you ask questions all the time. BLW was the single best thing we did for our youngest- so much easier than dragging around purées and spoons and bowls.
