I still hear (white)... not 100% (green).. but good enough...
I think you’re referring to the certain “white” words you hear. That’s the way Mong Leeg pronounce it. I noticed many of those words as well because you & I are hmoob ntsaub. Basically hmong Ntsaub (green) and Mong leeg is the same, but the “Moos Pheeb” dialect are very distinct. Today you know that the Vang family in CA no longer speak with this dialect but in France, Thailand, Laos & elsewhere they still do. Now our forefathers/great grandpa prob spoke like them too but down the line we had “mixed” or lived mostly among White speakers. Now in the hmoob Ntsaub speaking ways, we say certain words differently.
Example Mong Leeg like this artist will pronounce these words as on left. On right, is how you & I (hmoob Ntsaub) would pronounce.
(Mong Moos Pheeb) (Hmoob Ntsaub)
“way” as kev “Way” as Kiv
“dad” as txiv “Dad” as txwv
“Fruit” as txiv “Fruit” as txwv
“forever” as ib txis “Forever” as ib txwg
In Mong Leeg on left side, words are all pronounced same way as the white dialect. This is how all of not most Mong Moos Pheeb speak. This is the true green dialect as known to them. To us hmoob Ntsaub, they sound a bit white because even though we are same as them we clearly pronounce few words differently. I figure you prob heard what I heard too. Words like dad/txwv is what distinguishes us from Mong Leeg, Mong Moos Pheeb.

But you would recognize if someone is Mong Moos Pheeb & not regular hmoob Ntsaub is when you hear them say words like on the left, that’s distinct to them.
(Mong Moos Pheeb) ((Me) hmoob Ntsaub)
nyaj (Money) We say Nyiaj (same as white)
Nyam (like) We say Nyiam (same as white)
Now in this case we are the one who now sounds white to them because their pronunciations for those above words seems to correlate more with proper green dialects in Vietnam & China or hmoob Suav. You prob know all this already. But if you haven’t, this is the break down. So these simple words are the “highlight” catch words to distinguish.
