The first words from Seth on this stage. Let them sink in. It's what we got with Season 2 and it was AMAZING. I like the Seth Trek.
He promised AND he delivered. A thin no politian can do right now. Or Disney..

i have to say farscape was a fun show and even thou it was dark at times had it own tone really but it was one of the more funny scifi seriers out there and Stargate is fun as well the humor is a garnish like in orville

i mean star trek had a lot of levity, firefly was a comedy adventure series that just happened to be set in space. they’re not inventing the wheel here, but they’re doing a great job of it

Ironic that Seth brings up Nosedive, the Black Mirror Episode that had similarities with Majority Rule and came out first, when really Dan Harmon touched upon a very similar subject with App Development and Condiments (MeowMeowBeanz), a Community episode that came out in 2014.

yep love the show has some great stuff going for it. The only part about the show i didn't like was the doctor and her 2 sons.. just boring, overacting, and bad plot for them all, for me was the only weak link in the show and if they took all 3 of them out it would be much better. Their stories were boring, she overacts, and just wasn't enjoyable.

I already seen the genius of this show. But to see the genius of the makeup/special effects team(s) is a real surprise.
The Moclans for example. The actors look nothing like Bortis and Klyden.
I would have ID'd him at craft service too. lol
And if you close your eyes, the host sounds like Ray Ramano. lol

Seth reminds me of Freddie Mercury when it comes to writing. So Seth rewrites episodes that have been written by someone else, Freddie used to do the same. Roger Taylor wrote A kind of magic, Freddie got hold of it and pretty much rewrote it. 😂

This probably is not the spot to post my comment but if i dont i wont so here goes...
I grew up when the original star trek went into syndicated reruns & I vaguely remember its last season on NBC. It was not a show for the post war adult generation, but proved marketable to a nations people who seemed unstoppable & was going to the moon. Then what? Well I recall President Johnson goving a speech on TV saying we would send man to Mars in 198__? Kids can't decipher being lied to from Politicians so i could never understand WHY we never went to Mars. But we did send a couple of Kodak cameras there in 1976 with photos IN CoLoR! The first ever color on another planet & it was then i took an interest in Space & sci-fi in general, although there really wasn't much out there. On TV there were reruns of StarTrek & that was the best we had until ABC spent a fortune to present Battlestar Galactica & it was expected to capture the popularity Star Wars was at theatres but sank faster than the Titanic. I loved them all, but Star Trek was low budget, had a narcissistic ego driven Captain who had a style of acting that screamed comedy. Just add styrofoam boulders crashing down on people that wasn't believable & ranked as bad as a 50s low budget B movie. The total lack of quality on set screamed fake in many scenes & proved to be like a prophecy come true in other scenes. One wonders today why Spok carried such a large science instrument to tell what the biology of a planet carried with no satellites or cell towers to connect to the Enterprise. Or why Capt Kirk wasn't always staring down at his communicator like people do to smart phones today. They never imagined the "communicator" as having a screen? Or that it could act as a computer. Because the computer on Star Trek was this huge machine which encompassed the entire ship. The Captain would call it out by name, "Computer!" One would hear mechanisms softly clamoring together as a womans voice answered in mechanical form, saying very slowly... "w o r k i n g"... that meant the computer, the big one, the one for the entire ship was... WORKING! As opposed to real life in which mainframe IBM computers had to shut down to upload or download that days business with an announcement... "the computers will be shutting down in 5 minutes & will be down for an hour". Those were the days when a data entry job paid $60,000 a year to start with some over 100k -in 1970 dollars an outrageous wage. But say the word computer & people got scared, so its no wonder Star Trek toned that down by not showing the computer & making it appear slow or inadequate in many ways, but essential to get calculations deemed essential immediately... after a brief warm up period. How could they predict the cell phone but miss on computers becoming the new "phone" is beyond me, but it makes for jokes that no doubt would upset the Star Trek GOD & our creator... Gene Roddenbury whose wife was the voice for computer and played the Doctors nurse after the blonde hottie nurse was fired after season 1 (drugs).
Then Saturday Night Live had William Shatner on set one night & the star trek bashing all became a part of tv comedy. Spaceballs confirmed that as a
parody to Star Wars & low & behold you could mix comedy with sci-fi.
The Orville is long overdue. There isn't a TV show out there which has generated so many fans, so many sequels, and so damn much money for Gene Roddenbury & his widowed wife as Star Trek has & its still going... un friken believable!
Leonard Nimoy was bitter of the show accusing it of branding him an alien for life & destroying his career. This is true. But it wasn't until the movies started making McMillions that the crew was even payed for their roles outside from their NBC paychecks back in the late 60s. The original cast made LLOADS buckets barrels of money for their small insignificant acting roles which werent even that good but combined made up a classic in which marijuana smokers laughed & laughed throughout.
McDarlands role of tapping into that was brilliant & to me obvious to have huge potential considering geek-ness is huge these days, but back in Leonard Nimoy days it wasn't even a word yet & bullies took care to make sure only cool people ruled the up & coming baby boomer generation of which i barely escaped from being born into i am FIRST YEAR Gen X, even geekier & i believe Mcfarland falls into that generation as well. He looks too old to be a millenial as the oldest is 42
& he is well over 42.
    If not then... oops

If it's okay for me to say this, I like the Orville way more than Star Trek, Star Trek(until the newest film trilogy that is) seemed boring to me, The Orville embraced the same concepts but spoke to me more as a person!!!!!!!!

    • @phangirlable
      @phangirlable 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Weird, because the Orville embodies everything that people love about the old series and dislike about the new movies that do no longer have that beloved Star Trek spirit.
