    Today we’re going to be polishing HARD black Audi paint. This vehicles primary way of being washed is the automatic car wash with brushes and you can imagine it’s in pretty rough shape. The customer wants me to try to bring back some gloss and shine and remove some of the damage but is on a limited budget and also will more than likely be continuing to use the automatic car wash. Although we did recommend they go through the touch-less car wash instead, for those of you that are in a similar situation where you want to try to clean up your paint without being SUPER aggressive on the paint, let’s take a closer look at how I would approach a detail like this.

    Even if there's some deeper scratches/swirls left, the car looks so much better after the 1-step/enhancement.👍
    I'm not a professional, but I'm only going to do a one-step on my own car to preserve as much clearcoat as possible. I've got a 2015 Mercedes with hard clear, and found the Koch Chemie F6.01 to work well with Rupes yellow foam when I did a test-spot. I also ordered the new Rupes intermediate pads - haven't tried that combo yet, but suspect that combo will be great as a onestep on hard clear.

    Cool. I just polished the same type of car (Audi A3 8p 2008/09 Brilliant black LY9B). I used Meguiars ultimate polish with a yellow meguiars pad, speed 4800 rpm. Worked out well or should i say as my motto always is "better then before"

    I have an Audi q5 and her experience was like re-living mine. I had to go to a wool pad and mazerna 1000. The maguiars 1500 worked well too…BUT that still didn’t get all the scratches out. If I really wanted to get out the scratches I’d probably have to wet sand. Audi paint is very quick to scratch but a **** to buff out.

  • @dustin3700
    @dustin3700 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This paint needs a two step 100% but I would definitely never offer that if they use a brush wash or don’t properly maintain the vehicle. This is when the new rupes teal/light blue foam pad is a big help more cut then yellow and finishes nearly the same.

    So I have a question... I know you, and lots of detailers, spend a lot of time figuring out what to use. Is a notebook (or database) of what worked on this brand, this model, this color, this year, etc. not something you could use.

    • @attention2detailswchelsea
      @attention2detailswchelsea  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It could help, but from year to year paint may change and from panel to panel sometimes paint can be different if it’s a re-spray from the factory or from an accident. You can find a good bit of data online and forums for a general start, but realistically the only way to know for sure isthat test spot.

  • @Secret_Sun33

    I would've simply done a quick heavy cut compound with medium pad with rotary on hood and general door area. Then finish with a that 1 step.

    I did not expect so much dust to come off on the first wheel rinse, that was cool. For Dark Fury, I know it's quite a powerful cleaner. Are there any precautions or areas you would avoid using it?

    • @attention2detailswchelsea
      @attention2detailswchelsea  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      For a paint enhancement that’s about typical for me on a small vehicle. It can take a little longer for a larger vehicle but I do typically 2-3 passes at a decent arm speed and stick to one step so can move pretty quickly

    • @RojohII
      @RojohII หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Weekend warrior here too. I could justify quite a bit of labour when working on my own car, but for me it kind of balances between:
      - the extra labour is kind of not worth it if you have to bring out the Scangrip or bend down in funny angles to see the imperfections.
      - I want some clearcoat left to work with if (or rather; when) I have to adress future damage.
      -It's possible I'd do a two-step, but not for correction. I'd probably settle with 70-80% correction, and then maybe top it with a very light polishing-stage to get rid of any fine haze and to make it really pop from a distance.
      On the other hand you have the curse of black paint. Luckily my car is dark grey metallic.🤭

    Chelsea, I've learned so much from you. I knew a little about a little but there was a lot that I didn't know. I've always been too scared to touch my vehicles with a polisher. A couple days ago I started on my truck. I used the Griots Garage G9 and their correcting cream that you recommended in one of your videos. I've used a clay bar in the past but it's so time consuming. If you recall I asked a question about DIY Details clay towel in your video with I believe his name is Ivan. Well, I bought one and it's SO MUCH easier and faster. Also, per your recommendation I bought McKees Graphene Ceramic Coating but haven't applied it yet, I'm hoping to get to it this weekend. I emailed Nick a question and I gave you credit for me purchasing it. Just from the correcting cream my truck looks amazing, it's not 100% but it's a good 85-90% better. Thank you so much for the great content!
