I saw it pre TH-cam. Someone brought it to my house. They were acting like they made it or they were using it to make their own game.

For those that don't know, M.U.G.E.N is a freeware fighting game released I think around 1997. The thing with this game, it doesn't has its own characters. You download the characters online and use them in the game. And yes you can download any character from any game, into this game.

Thats also it's flaw, the fact you can import ANY character into the game without any standards makes it a really glitchy and pain in the ass game to play
+neoasura if i'm not mistaken you can always edit the characters' values with notepad to make it more balanced
It's up to the fanbase to convert and create characters, otherwise, not necessarily every character in existance is available for MUGEN.
+HicksZ34 just google a bit, downloadable characters shouldn't be hard to find, a lot of them taking on a custom spin on existing sprites from actual games. then you just need some basic notepad scripting skills to import them into the game. oh and in terms of custom sprites, again just google... there's a bunch of sprite artists around deviantart and other such sites

MUGEN was a huge part of my childhood. I even made a bunch of custom Naruto characters, forcing myself to learn to do bits of rudimentary coding and work off of a sketchy freeware program called "fighter factory". Heck, I remember tinkering the crap out of my PSP to take a version of MUGEN with me on the go (infinitycat, I think). This game was literally the beginning of my tech literacy. So many great memories.
Fighter Factory wasn’t even sketchy. It was a legitimate program made by VirtuallTek.
It was more sketchy in terms of how it performed. That WinME machine crashed plenty on its own, but learning how to use fighter factory involved quite a bit of knowing not to do certain things to keep things moving. It was extremely robust, simplified the hell out of many actions and even made it possible to build fully functioning characters with no actual coding knowledge... but the program definitely worked on its own rules.

I spent so much time on this game in middle school. I remember going into each character file and setting them up with specific music and stages, balancing their stats if they were too overpowered, setting up the Arcade to set specific characters at specific points based on RNG...

You guys NEED to play *Terrordrome* if you haven't already. It's a MUGEN game, but all the characters are horror movie icons. Chucky, Freddy, Jason... Pumpkinhead, etc. It's pretty balanced and polished, compared to the randomness of MUGENs like these, which are fun in a different way.

Yeah, can James and Mike not clearly see the screen when they're playing? When you watch this video you can see the blue box having the claspy cuspo logo flashing and the little jimmy neutron that flashes in it, but could they not see that as they were playing?

I actually wanted to make Steve Urkel into the Mugen roster! I screenshot every frames from the Mortal Kombat segment in the Family Matters episode. The problem is I don't know how to get rid of the background properly to make a custom sprite sheet out of him. I am willing to work with anyone to make him be in the game! ^_^

Big Bird is the most powerful fighting game character ever, that was amazing 😂
This game is super fun (haven't played it in a while though), but all too often I kept running into problems of characters that were poorly made and completely broken (like the monkey and kitten), or characters that when you fight against them have an AI so ridiculous that you can't do anything and have no chance at all of being able to beat them (like Aquaman and Flash). It is so nice, though, when you find well made and really nicely animated characters with some creativity, like Krang and Ronald McDonald here.

They should each spend 2 hours or so to search the internet for 25 characters each and they put all 50 characters into one game and both play. The silly characters are fun for a little bit the the quality characters(good sprites and moveser)are really where the most fun is.
Paul is form DNA productions, the group that helped to produce The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, A cartoon in the 2000's from Nickelodeon.
Slow the video down during the fights with Paul in them, and You can see a Screen shot of the show on several still frames.

Man, can't believe I'm playing with MUGEN for 20 years next year. So much fun but also sadness, because I remember one time I put all characters I had at that time (5000+) in one game and after a few starts the loading was too much for my hard drive and led to a head crash :(

The most wacky ass fighting game where any character you can imagine can be implemented into the game. You want Ronald McDonald throwing Shinku Hadokens at Hulk Hogan? Go for it. You want Marisa Kirisame killing Batman with a broom? You got it.
And has some ridiculously over powered characters with full screen attacks that are insta kill due to the complex coding they have

@Ibrahim To the guys who liked the comment it is, but as someone who's played lots of Mugen collections I can tell you that this is a collection focused more on the spectacle than on actual gameplay and Hyper Dragon Ball Z is an example of what a good mugen is actually like.
I can't believe James didn't know about this game. This is the base for many Mortal Kombat modifications, like MK Project and MK Chaotic and also Street Fighter the Third Strike Remix, to name only a few.
Also, I just noticed-TWO of the backgrounds are from AvP arcade.

I am Brazilian. The purple bird at 19:50 is dubed in Portuguese. More precisely using Brazilian Dragon Ball Z's audio (you can hear it sayng very slowly 'kaaaa-meeee haaa-meee haaa)
There are so many thousands of characters to try in this game. Testing characters and creating the perfect balanced roster is a hobbit in and of itself. I used to code characters in MUGEN, it was a lot of fun.
Mugen is completely customizable from the ground up (sprites, sound effects, animations, move inputs and behavior, music, menu and select screen, fonts, stages, victory messages, and just about everything else). You can even associate stages and music with specific characters or give characters opponent-specific intros and victory poses/quotes. Krang was resolutioned up from Turtles in Time and custom-sprited. Some creators include move lists as text or png, but usually you can open a character's .cmd file in notepad and get a list of all the inputs, buffer times, and what move states they activate. The .cns files contain the code for the moves themselves, as well as names of follow-up inputs that trigger state transitions to other moves. This is the tldr way to figure out a character's complete moveset, but also gives the curious a good understanding of how MUGEN characters work.

How the hell have you two not played Broforce yet? It's basically every 80's and 90's action hero (and even multiple heroes played by the same actor) crammed into a Contra-esque shooter with unique character appropriate weapons and special attacks and completely destructible environments. Awesome gimmick aside, it's a great fucking game in its own right. The right length too. You two could play it start to finish in about 2-3 episodes.
