This was a mini-figure piece, but I remember getting Radagast the Brown, and he had a small tan feather piece on his hat. Shortly after I got him, I dropped that piece on our carper which was tan in color. It was night time, so it was hard to see it. It was such a little piece, I thought it was lost forever. So I was like "oh well, I'll just order a new one on Bricklink." Ummmm...yeah, that piece in that color sold for $60-$70 (which was more than I spent on the figure). I immediately grabbed a flashlight, got on all fours, and explored every inch of that carpeted area. I thankfully found it, put it in his hat, and placed him in the set where I wanted him, never to touch it and accidentally lose it again. LOL
😂 bro the exact same thing happened to me last week lmao, spent an exorbitant amount on the fig, then proceeded to take pictures of it in the park, ended up dropping it, didn’t even realise that the feather came off, then went on bricklink, got the shock of my life. After that, I went and searched for so long and finally got the feather, safe to say that I am never ever removing it from display again. 😅
I lost it, and I have no idea where in the house.
You must know your lego vault room well to so casually walk backwards while even talking with animated body movements and not disturb a single piece
I didnt even relise how much the green roof was even worth or the story behind it cause i got it as a gift from my freind in a 1kg bag of lego
I certainly don't own any of the valuable parts, but I do own the party bus, so like, close, right? Close enough. 😂

Most older sets were mass produced and had limited part usage. A lot of the pieces on this list are super specialized or only released in one set, something Lego didn’t really do back then
Given how rare (and in-demand) things like the green roof and the orange tail are, I am surprised we haven't seen LEGO designers look for a way to put those parts (and other rare/desirable parts that are non-licensed and still possible to bring back e.g. the sand green 1 x 2 grove brick from the Greengrocer) into new sets...
We know there are set designers who are also LEGO fans and would know how desirable some of these parts are...
Man, I had no idea some Bionicle masks are so valuable. Really crazy and ridiculous when you consider they're just alternate colors.
Every day I am thankful for not being interested in collecting Star Wars
Instead I am cursed with Bionicle.
I am burdened with both. A cruel fate.

Same, though first i liked the sets [Bionicle], then i liked the lore, at least the first gen. Second? Meh. Used to be into Star Wars, back when sets were cheaper, the minifigures were yellow, and before Disney took over.
@meutainer8696 It also makes Bionicle easier to display, because there's no need to continuously update.

Marina Bay Sands was available in Toys R Us stores in Singapore as well, it was not exclusive to the Marina Bay Sands gift shop.

The green car roof is on bricklink since June 30, 2023 selling for $700...
I mean at that price you may as well just buy the entire set which costs about as much.

Maybe it just doesn’t show up on camera properly, but how do your sets not look like they are fully caked in dust?
Probably the camera and the colors. Most of the sets are Star Wars so the gray coloring hide the dust. If you look at the Tower of Orthanc part of the video parts of it are caked in dust because they show up really well against black pieces.
Nice to see all these rare pieces and their market value...remember something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

I wanna cry when I think about all the old Lego pieces I used to have. Id literally have thousands. Star wars episode one sets...darth maul...don't even get me started
I let go of ALL the first wave of LOTR Lego sets, hung on to each of the fellowship figures. Went through the faze of I'm done with this kids stuff being close to 35. I HATE ME. So much value, kept boxes as well and thought 200$ is good. My buddy still flaunts my old stuff
I parted together Action Comics #1 last year, and was somewhat crushed when I found out I couldn't get the roof piece. I'm also miffed that we got the original Batman and Wonder Woman, but not Superman, that would have been perfect! I built an alternative and now the model is on my shelf.
It kind of surprises me that one piece is so rare in that color; UCS Star Wars printed pieces I'm expecting to be that rare, but that one piece in that color only ever being in a Comicon exclusive just seems so random. It's so rare there's not even sales data on it as an individual piece.

Are you talking about production only ? I have part 2422 in non production colors they were used by the Windsor design team in the colors green ,blue, old dark grey, light grey and tan

What about the UNICEF logo pattern panel?
I have one 1x1 5 point crystal in chrome green from 1999 which only appeared in 2 sets ever and both are the only time a piece was ever colored in chrome green. Cost me about $30 in mint condition when I bought it a while back. So I guess I have something in a rare color!
I got one from Countdown Corner, one of the 2 sets. Those were the days.
The orange tail fin piece appeared in the 2018 Arctic quad copter, so the piece must only be rare with the specific sticker

Haha that car roof got me. Some other rare parts that come to mind; white hoses from Market Street, Turntable from Cafe Corner and sails from Imperial Flagship.

Market Street and Cafe Corner, the first two of the modular series. Still got both intact, but with a few extra pieces from play years back.

Hey Duck, given the size of your LEGO collection, I really hope you own your house and never plan on moving. Moving a large LEGO collection is very, very difficult. The best thing to do is break them all down, and rebuild them in your new home. They are going to fall apart during the move anyway. Anybody else have interesting stories about moving with LEGOs?

You can buy a brand new, sealed Marina Bay Sands set right now for around 80USD, why does that single piece cost the same?
Hmmm; are you maybe seeing the new Singapore Skyline with Marina Bay Sands? The tile from that one only say "Singapore" on it. The original Marina Bay Sands sells for 800 to 1000 sealed. It's a cool set! Just out of our range!
You are talking about the new one not the first original one that prices up to $1000 and I actually have it and so glad I do. I’m glad I did not pass that up.

The black sword that came with the Armor Shop from the 90s Castle series. Caused a couple fights on my street when one came up missing. AFAIK it’s a one-of-a-kind piece, never saw one in another set. Talking specifically about the original sword with the rounded tip. The other 99.999999999% of them are dark grey. The brown cape was pretty rare too but I had a couple of those. The Blacksmith Shop set was easy to find, unlike the Armor Shop.

Hey DuckBricks. How do you take care of the dust and your snapped clear hinge From MK 1 UCS Snow Speeder looks brown in the video, must be dark inside the cockpit.

Hmm, I actually bought the bulk of 10237 The Tower of Orthanc at a charity thrift store as a steal some years ago. I need to check my old Orthanc bag and see if the ball was included or if it had rolled away before it ended up there...

I once bought 4 of the Lego Palantir because I lost mine and now I have 3 spare Palantir at home. Back then they weren’t that expensive.

Surprised to find that, by owning set 10175, I have 20% of the pieces on that list.
One nit-pick:
You show up why some pieces are expensive - especially because they are used in certain sought-after sets.
But you say that that makes them "rare".
It's what makes them expensive/valuable, but doesn't change the rarity.
There are certainly some bricks that are rarer, but nobody cares for them.
DuckBricks saying “[This list] won’t be including any Bionicle masks” over an instrumental version of “As Above, So Below” is incredibly ironic
Also, I’m assuming this means we’ll be getting independent lists for those four exclusionary categories if we haven’t already (minifig parts, Bonk kanohi & related parts, animals, and electronics bricks)

Hi there, I don't own any of the pieces here, but do have a story similar. I had bought a LEGO lot not long ago for $30 for 9 lbs sight unseen. I checked the pieces afterwards to find....NOT 1, NOT 2, NOT even 3.....but FOUR of the white thick windows complete with glass from the Corner Cafe. It actually has 5, so i looked them up on Bricklink & low and behold they are sold for $30-$40 each (I have 4)!! That's about 4 times what i paid for the whole lot, just for 4 pieces! Did I make a killing or what!?

Back in the 70s my cousin had a 4x1 that said Bäcker, with a pretzel on either side. It had to have been from the late 50s or early 60s as they were 6-10 years older than me.
From the German market, probably. Bäcker means "baker". Apparently it's a 1x8, not a 1x4 and goes for about 3-5 US$ on Bricklink...
Looking at the thumbnail I thought I was going to luck out with the zamar sphere because I thought it was one from the Bionicle playsets that had the black and gold spheres. Guess not 😕

Rarest single piece I have is the Vampire pointed hair style in red. I got it for a custom Ganandorf minifig I was making. Only 2 are on the bricklink store currently. Never officially made in red and are extremely rare pieces that are only factory mistakes and extras. I think I spent like 70$ on that hair piece alone. The remaining 2 are over a hundred dollars. Sorry about that
I think I actually own the tower of orthonk from the lord of the rings. But all my Legos have been in storage for the past 2 years, So the only thing that tips me off to this is the memory that i own a minifigure of Grima Warmtongue... And as far as I can remember he was exclusive to that one set.
Right now (11.07.2024) one Superman Comic Hood is selling on bricklink for 646€ (from the US) - damn . And one in lime is selling for 0.95€ :D
Pieces don't have to be mega expensive to be rare, try to find Red Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with Double Finger on End
or the single finger versions.
or the Light Bluish Gray Ball, Hard Plastic 52mm D.
