- This is a little animated movie I made in 1997, on a program called 3D Movie Maker. You can pick scenery, change camera angles, record audio, select characters, change their clothes, make them move. Most of the actions include dancing or jumping, but I did everything I could to make it look like they were fighting, so I really had to push the limits of the software to make the characters do what I wanted.
Also, I was running Windows 95 on an old PC with a 3 GB hardrive. With a movie over 20 minutes, I was lucky when it would load.
The only way I was able to record it, was on my old VHS camera pointed at the monitor.
3 things youll hear that dont belong are
1) a telephone ringing.
2) my dog barking.
3) my sister yelling at me.
I wish the quality could be better, but Im fortunate the tape still exists. 11 years ago, there werent too many people to show it to. But now, the internet makes it possible. #mikematei #retro #retrogaming #gameplay #playthrough #livestream #review #nes #snes #matei
It looks like the original Alone in the Dark so I give it a 10/10.
This Cinemassacre release should be reanimated as much as possible.
Awesome, a buddy and I made 100s of movies on 3DMM, this had a huge underground following back in the day. There were some amazing classics like litterbug I and II, Dragon in America, Nuts and it's sequels, The Mr. Binek Chronicles... The limitations are really nearly endless with the program. I've been trying to find it again, I still have our old movies on disk, and want to watch them again.
So great to see this program again. I once made a 45 minute film with with it. The final action scene was in an elevator shaft which I constructed out of grey cubes and cylinders. The guns the characters used were also grey cylinders, with red exploding spheres for the gunshots.
"Rats. Were rats. Were the rats. We prey at night, we stalk at night. Were the rats. And I'm the giant rat that makes all of the rules. Let's see what kind of trouble we can get ourselves into."
Hah, I remember using this thing on my friend's computer but I never made anything remotely coherent, but it was still good for a laugh with how utterly bizarre things would turn out.
Just now capturing the best quality I can of my old movies. Kinda genius camera recording the monitor back then.
I love your passion for making movies. I can relate. Not to making movies but to drawing and other art forms and making movies for about a year and a half now.
Hearing James say "I'm gonna have to kick your butt" instead of, say, "I'm gonna have to kick your fucking ass" is endlessly humorous to me.
"I'm gonna beat ya down!" seriously the tagline for the film! Really well done considering the technological restraints.
I am with you guys. I pushed this software to the limit with custom scenes and animating sequences frame by frame. Good times.

I actually remember using this program "back in the day". Well, the demo version anyway. It's hard to make epic movies when all you have to choose from is 2 characters that HAVE to interact in a street.
Wow if you would've shown this with a better renderation at a film festival back then. This would be classic.

I made a trilogy of movies that were inspired by a mixture of DBZ and Final Fantasy mainly Final Fantasy. BAsically they looked like somebody playing an RPG. I had alot of fun with this little program back int he day.
I think James Rolfie should do another 3dMM film, but with the knowledge and experence that he has now that everyone loves!!

Oh man. I loved that program! I need to get my Sony VAIO from 1995 back up and running with it's monsterous 2 gig Hard drive.

holy shit...my friends and I made a movie with the same program and setting....the movie got deleted when I had to format the drive...but wow does this dig up some memories...thanks for sharing
3D Movie Maker. I was the king of that back in the day. The community is still thriving, too!

I remember this game! 3D movie maker was really fun to mess with! I never tried to make a nice movie because of all the work it took. I remember only using the big armored guy and the big guy with the red shirt. I would choose the most bizarre things to work with. Nice voice acting their James. At first I thought the 'gang' were the 'bad guys' but turns out to be the zombie monster. I really enjoyed making them all dance simultaneously all the time.

Cool! I think this would be a great idea for a remake using GoAnimate. BTW, this was 1997, and GoAnimate never existed until 10 years later.
I used to love 3D movie maker, I made a badass parody of EVERYTHING featuring Han Solo, Chewbacca, Kenny from South Park, Bugs Bunny, Dennis Rodman, and a whole shitload of other randoms

That's an interesting program. Sorta like a more advanced version of Cartooners, an older, 1989 2D animation program based on the same concepts.
Kinda reminds me of alone in the dark with the quality of the models and the animations.

i loved this game so much as a kid. i made some hilarious and warped things on it, and some nice imaginative stories, but nothing this epic. I only wish I could watch those movies I made as a kid again.
But this film is really nostalgic

well, even hacked it with bunks of stuff from some website mixing it with Nickelodeon Movie Maker, only my movies were dead serious and never really used the stupid looking characters while making a movie.

Wow...I had 3D Movie Maker back in the day as well. I used the shit out of it and made all sorts of garbage movies, but I loved every minute of it!

I still have 3D Movie Maker one of the best softwares Microsoft ever developed. I also have the Nickelodeon version as well which they would re-release it.
