  • This rad ‘96 Cherokee former US Forest Service 5spd was riddled with little mechanical issues we fixed! Clean and nearly rust free, we brought it back to life. Gauges fixed, rear brakes, interior detailing, new exhaust, and bucking/stalling solved with the vehicle speed sensor (VSS). #cherokeexj #jeep #mechanic

XJs have a special place in my heart as my father's love of surf fishing and the ocean wasn't gonna let cancer get in the way but as he couldn't carry his gear from the parking lot at Cape Point, Cape Hatteras, our family car went from a 78 LTD wagon with a brief Ramcharger to a series of XJs with the last being given to me after mom passed. Now he has a Lexus AWD that as a retired Toyota tech and having experienced it's many safety features with him scaring I mean driving me around allows me to sleep. That's my XJ story and there's much more I could bore you with. It's a Jeep thing.

Thanks for this video, recently purchased my own Phase 1 XJ - and any videos with these kind of detailed issues and fixes are always welcome for a DIY home mechanic

Looks like you got a good one. Jeeps of that era around my neck of the woods are all rusty beaters by now.

I'm in New Hampshire and after my last beater became too expensive I looked for an XJ but don't have time for a project as I bought the house a year ago. 93 Ranger survivor was worth the 6 month no vehicle wait. Still looking for a decent XJ though.

Why are you getting a momentary and frequent check engine lights. Saw them several times during the video. Start up, while accelerating, and shifting.
