Wow, the passenger traffic in Connecticut is outrageous! I always love seeing 1309 and hearing her beautiful throaty voice (that Central of Georgia engine was a noble old warrior too), and the meet on the bridge at Burlington was terrifically beautiful. More gorgeous sky shots, an amazing long shot at Horseshoe Curve, and a great rocket launch. What a great way to end the year! Thank you and I hope that 2024 brings everyone here many blessings!

6:50” Santa Fe/BNSF 705 was painted with the classic Santa Fe lettered cigar band nose logo but with BNSF side letters. I call that rare group the 700 club😂 because they changed the cigar band with in the first 20 or so out of that order from GE. Thanks! Steve Rippeteau

Nice grab bag! Wonder if the SD70M-2s are heading to the shops to be rebuilt into SD70ICCs? Also nice catch on the "Grinstein" SD70MAC at 13:50. Be on the lookout for 9653, it had its BN herald recently restored on the nose!
ASHX cars carry Soda Ash from Green River WY for American Soda formerly Solvay Chemicals they use SMNX cars too

Can someone please tell me what "DO NOT HUMP" means. I have been wondering for a while. I certainly hope that UP flamer got put out soon. Happy New Year to all you Railfaners.
Larger yards use a method where they push cars over a "hump" for measuring weight and consolidating cars. These "do not hump" cars have sensitive equipment on board that can be damaged if not handled properly.
Go look at the Waycross Depot cam. You can see cars being pushed over the "hump" way off in the distance in Rice Yard. The hump is a couple miles from the camera, so you can only see it on really clear days - but even then it may be difficult to see due to the distance.

Please tell me …… why was a Norfolk Southern locomotive leading an Amtrak train? Twice?
Typically, if a freight engine is leading Amtrak, it's because the Amtrak engine has an issue and cannot continue. It's hard to get into specifics as Amtrak does not release any reasons.
did the Metra unit not work for them? seen it on more freight trains then anything
The Metra unit is in transit, dead in tow, for delivery to Metra for their service in Chicago from the Progress Locomotive shop in Patterson, GA (just NE of Waycross). Several other such units have recently been done for Metra by Progress.
NS engines at 5:10 all 8 show in storage.
I knew NS hated the SD70-ACe so they're either scrapping or storing.
Not SD70ACes, they're SD70M-2 "Thunder cabs". They could be being purged from the roster, but they could also be heading to the shops for rebuilding into SD70ICCs as well.
@@randallellison6421 SD70ICC ? That is a new designation on me never heard of them till now. But I thought the new offering from progress would have been successful a smaller 4-stroke no more DEF fluid if this unit doesn't fly EMD will be no more just a memory.
@kittty2005 basically its the SD70M-2 rebuilt to SD70ACe specs and the original cab (often referred to as "Thunder cabs" as they are not isolated from the main body of the locomotive which causes severe vibrations and a terrible riding experience for crews) is replaced with a new "isolated" cab (the way you can tell, is you'll see a small gap near the front of the nose and just under where the crew sits) to absorb vibration and improve ride quality, hence the new "ICC" designation. NS already has a group of them rebuilt and back on the rails. It's hard to say what the future is for these particular units will be though. I also heard these are units being returned to Progress Rail as their lease has expired on them. As for the actual SD70ACes on NS, I can assure you those units are alive and well with those in the Heritage schemes receiving fresh coats of paint.

What is the significance of the Do Not Hump cars?
The boxcar at 3:45, usually seen just behind locos on many CSX trains, is specially equipped with monitoring devices (including a laser sensor that shows as a red glow underneath at nighttime)
to evaluate track conditions throughout the system. The "Do Not Hump" is so the sensing equipment is not damaged or put out of calibration do to the potential shocks of going thru a Hump yard procedure.

Not SD70ACes, they're SD70M-2 "Thunder cabs". It's hard to say, it's possible they could be heading to the shops for rebuilding into SD70ICCs, since some have already been rebuilt.

Why to some of Norfolk Southern locomotives have "do not fuel" spray painted on the fuel tanks?
They’re most likely at the end of their lease and being returned to the lessee. No point fueling a locomotive you aren’t going to use anymore.
Edited to add: Some of those locomotives have had the logo altered or painted over. Definitely going back to the lessee.
@macmedic892 it's also possible they're heading to the shops to be rebuilt, railroads will drain the fuel, water, and lubricants before the units are transported to the location where rebuilding is performed.

That was a meteor entering the atmosphere. I saw it as well that night as I was driving home from Taco Bell. (I wasn't in Folkston, but I still saw it.)

There are so many still to catch, what's nice after catching one is to try and find the history on it. That will take to to spurs, sidings, ends and some neat history.
