Thank you, nice video. However for those out there, you shouldn't use duct tape.. Despite the name its not good for ducts. That will dry and crack over type causing leaks. Aluminum tape, mastic, etc. better choice.
Mastic being the number 1 choice. Today's foil tape is crap compared to the same tape 15+ years ago. It used to smell like super glue when you peeled it back. That stuff used to stick to anything. Now it barely sticks at all. Use mastic.
it was on a busy street so maybe thats the sound you hurd thanks for commenting .i guess i am old school i do have a nice nibbles that would of made quick work of that return box. nothing like a drill with a coard i have the drop light with the plug on it anyway
System should perform much better now! Good job man! When i install flex i like to brush mastic on the fitting where the flex slides on, then slide the flex over the mastic, then use a big zip tie. It will never come off once the mastic dries! Just how i do it... keep up the good work steve.
if you seen i had to cut the return insulation and slide the collar under it to slide into place. if i had the sticky tape on collar exposed it might of got stuck and made a mess ..so i left it on, as far as mastic on the old existing returns i guess thats not a bad idea.its and older system .i not to worried about a little leakage around the collars at the return box .if it was a new instulation and i had to put a pressure test on it .every thing would of been masticed.
its good to know how others do things ,,the mastic sounds like a good idea sure will seal it up from leaking thats for sure..thanks for watching and the great comment awsom
Good job as usual Steven, old school. A nice cut by hand & a corded drill to boot. I swear I hear 2 -3 footers hitting the jetty when your up in the attic? was that place beach front?
Hello, I have a question, I have a air flow box and I would like to know how to distribute the hose. I have 6 ducts and need to know how to set them up. Should I do one side or 3 on each side. What is your opinion? Thank you!
Will not having enough returns cause the systems to freeze up? I have a 3 ton that keeps freezing up. Everything from Freon is good but keeps freezing up.
yes, less noise and blower doesn't work as hard. Less electric consumed. Your system is designed for X amount of air flow. So many tons of heating and cooling, so large of returns and so on.
They make noise, because they are to small, I m going to install a 3 ton and I have to install 2 ,,, 14x30 inch if I install smaller s the are going to make noise.
A real man with a REAL DRILL ya'll. I hate those ladies cordless POS fuckers that last maybe a year. Then the battery pack dies. They stop making it and you have to buy ANOTHER new POS drill. My corded Milwaukee will twist your arms off and is how old?. Still works like new.
Just had this done in two bedrooms a week or so ago. The bedrooms feel so much better now.
Good job & good video 👍
thanks big for taking the time to comment@ watch

Except when the zip tie breaks........ Plastic in 150+ degree attics......
@@jimdavidson5208 I've never had a 36" ziptie " break" in the last 10 years

Nice video. Why didn't you use a 90 on the new collar before attaching flex duct?
Did you just make a hole on existing plenum or did you add a new one?

That Duct tape wrap makes me nauseous
From the looks of things, they must not change the filters often enough. That duct was filthy!
why was the return line connected to the airduct that was insulated. Wouldnt just the insulated ductwork be the supply lines and not the return?
Will not having enough returns cause the systems to freeze up? I have a 3 ton that keeps freezing up. Everything from Freon is good but keeps freezing up.
Cordless drill , make your life easier
How much would it cost to run a return line, move a furnace over , build a small enclosure
You can re-wrap loose duct tape. It's cutting into the bottom cord of a roof truss to center that return box that scares me.
No duct sealant? So much air leaks
Steve used the duct tape for compression, not sealing ya'll. Should of used mastic to seal. And clean that shit out of the other ducts homeowner.
Do you ever use ductboard
Soooo, Is it better to have a return that may too large than one that is too small ?
yes, less noise and blower doesn't work as hard. Less electric consumed. Your system is designed for X amount of air flow. So many tons of heating and cooling, so large of returns and so on.
No such thing as too much return air :)
Yes. It's better to have a bigger return
The bigger the better.the more the merrier
I have a 4 ton system with 2 14 inch returns and they make noise
How close are they to the unit
They make noise, because they are to small, I m going to install a 3 ton and I have to install 2 ,,, 14x30 inch if I install smaller s the are going to make noise.
The closer the returns are to the unit most of the time the louder the return is
You need to use manual D. To find size of return.
