    I think this round 2 coverage is one of, if not the best, commentaries ever! Love this duo, great job guys! (I know I’m about a year late, but whatever).

    My favorite commentary team. Fun personalities, positive, and honest. We need more ensure of perspectives in the game like this.

    I like the empathy from the fellow pros doing the commentary. It's very apparent at 24:00 as Gary Costa's shot is tracking out of bounds and Paul is saying "This needs to get down. This needs to get down." and AJ finishes it with "Dangit!"

    The winner deserves their applause - but I would not choose to play at Idlewild. Thanks, Jomez. Thanks AJ and Paul. Great coverage in a challenging place.

    Ulibarri always has such great insight into the technical part of the game. Love his commentary. I enjoyed Risley's commentary a lot more than I did with Jerm. As a new player, I like to hear what goes through the pro's heads when attacking a hole.

    I'm with Ulibarri on this one. Hole 17 doesn't seem like a fair hole with the creek winding down the whole fairway. You can be punished for a great shot by those little trees near the green and skipping off the green. Props to the TD for making it a par 4.

    • @royoneil3328
      @royoneil3328 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think its fair as a par 4. Mcbeth played a perfect shot and got paid off with a birdie. I've played it before and there's no reason to go to the right. Just like most of idlewild all you have to get off the tee and be in the middle of the fairway.

      If the US Open is made tough by growing the rough high then Idlewild, Northwood Gold, or Iron Hill would be the best matches due to all the trees making the "rough" quite difficult!

    How did James end up in the ditch on hole 14? He hits the band on his fourth shot on that 70 foot putt and the disc settles, then when he putts it out, he ends up in the ditch on the other side of the basket. How did he end up there?

  • @abehasinski2622
    @abehasinski2622 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    they honestly just need to make hole 17 a par 5 or make some of the creek casual... I'm more for making some of it casual. This course is VERY difficult.

    • @russallen9342
      @russallen9342 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, Conrad had one OB approach that really didn't seem fair.

    • @chrisgrafmiller5796
      @chrisgrafmiller5796 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s cool to see difficult courses - I don’t want to see everyone shoot -10 on every 1020 round - but it shouldn’t be so based on luck like some of these holes.

    • @abehasinski2622
      @abehasinski2622 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      exactly. difficulty yes... luck no. and i feel like thats what happens when you have soooo many trees and soooo much OB. either choose one or the other or a little of both. not ALOT of both haha. Good shots that are just slightly off line and hit a tree should not then have virtually a GUARANTEE of going OB also. Because instead of just the extra stroke of scramble or penalty, you're getting slammed with both. This is one of my semi-home courses (from Cinci) and I really think they need to either commit to cutting just a FEW more trees or open up SOME of that OB.

    • @jeremiaskalliokoski2702
      @jeremiaskalliokoski2702 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well there's no point of it being par 5 bc it can be reached with 1 decent shot. Fellas it is gonna stay as a par 4 and it's imo fine

    Dudes, inspired by Uli's commentary... can we pleeeeeease get some Melton commentary for 2019 Idlewild? IMO it's only right to have a southern fella commentating a tournament in Kentucky. I'm not poking fun, I'm from northern Cincy and a couple of my favorite players to watch are Dickerson and Melton.

  • @vvav
    @vvav 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I totally agree about hole 17 being a poorly designed hole. There should be a safe play and an aggressive play on that hole, but there's really only one option to throw as far down the fairway as you can because there's no safe landing zone at all. If you're in danger of going OB no matter what your play is then you might as well make sure that you go as far as you can in case you're OB.

      Atleast in here pros experience same level of struggle that most people do in normal course. No superwide- holes and McMahon parking 660ft long and 300 ft wide hyzers, but skill and sneaky turnovers. Calling for James Conrad back to back wins!

    Hole 16 plays as a par 5 in the tournament but on the course it’s marked as a 4. The best players in the world average 1.5 over par, so when my terrible ass decides it’d be a fun idea to play this course, it’s safe to say I wasn’t having the best time.

  • @blueboy2727
    @blueboy2727 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    As for hole 17, the course seems really nice and top level, but becomes tedious on the back 9 in a lot of places. That plus topping it all off with island holes just seems like you're trying to one-up other course designers.

    • @royoneil3328
      @royoneil3328 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dude do yourself a favor and play this course. I've heard alot of pros complain about this course but after playing it a couple times (just passing through town) I came to love the course and what it stands for. Hole 17 IMO isn't even in top 10 hardest holes on the course as a par 4

    • @blueboy2727
      @blueboy2727 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have friends who have. "What it stands for" is between you and the designer. What it looks like to me and everyone else is another example of the same thing that led to the USDGC island rule being changed. We can't have nice things.

  • @philman45227
    @philman45227 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Sorry you don't like hole 17 Uli. It's a tough hole but it's a golf hole. No pitch and putt here. As a local you learn to play Idlewild or Idlewild plays you.

    • @anhpham2733
      @anhpham2733 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Or Idlewild plays everyone. You do remember last year that 17 was a par 3? Yeah I don't think you can make a good point here. I like this course because the toughness comes from needing very accurate shots. 17 on the other hand, is way more lucky than skillful. Paul's birdie on that hole was pretty lucky imo as he got it from going OB on his drive. There's simply too much OB between the creek and the hole. I like that they made it a par 4. But I would bet you that 17 had more bogeys than par and birdies combined.

    • @philman45227
      @philman45227 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The problem is that these guys don't play the hole for par. They are trying to play it for birdie which is possible but incredibly difficult. If you've played this hole enough, which I have, you know where the landing zone is. This is a risk reward course.

    Ok ok...you two are likeable guys...but, if you are being paid for this...I beg you to come in a little prepared. Big Sexy sounds like they work for NBC sports..I understand if you are just friends with Jomez and came in as a favor or unprepared. It seems like Paul was really trying, but AJ seems to be totally flippant not trying to be interesting. Just say "wow" a whole lot or pointing out these players are good gets old fast. You are pros, tell us more about the discs and or styles, throws. To constantly be flabbergasted at how good the guys are..that's cool a little, but that happened a lot here. CCDG does that too much too. The viewers can handle that part. Big sexy seems to understand that. They don't go overboard with that.

    • @jameswhite170
      @jameswhite170 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't want that to sound overly critical..just encouraging you to talk like you expect these top throws to throw well, you you guys clearly do. The swooning over every good shot has the effect of making the listener tune you out. One of us crappy players could do that. I was so impressed early on when Nate would come across like he expects pros to play certain shots, then would analyze the shot vs emotionally reacting to it's wonder.

    • @jameswhite170
      @jameswhite170 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @alexanderdull3876 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think RizleyBerry is the best personally. I love big sexy but these guys are hilarious. And come on do we really want disc golf to be just like golf? I don't. It's a fun game, and I feel like it should have the fun and relaxed vibe these two give it. It can still get huge and provide big payouts to the pros without becoming all stuck up and serious like golf and other sports can be.
