    It's funny, what Daniel had with Japan is actually very common in the Orient with the West. I know lots of Chinese people who are obsessed with America 🇺🇸 like how Daniel described his Japanophilia. Many Asians think that America is what you see on T.V. And they expect life to be like that when they get there.

    • @Cody-fe5oe
      @Cody-fe5oe 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Doesn't this apply to a lot of Asians though? Whether they are Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Filipino, they all view America through the American media. Just like there are some Americans that view Japan, Korea, China, etc through anime/manga, Kpop, Kdrama, etc.

    How can you think that you learning Japanese is a waste?It's AMAZING!!As you get older you won't regret it I promise you. For a start learning a second language sets you up for a third...and a third will be easier if you want to learn. You are just growing up is all and life can become less magical in certain ways. Never stop learning...Just keep trying different things...you don't have to keep going. It's good to identify your drive, which usually comes down to money or sex in some way. This is a very personal thing and you don't have to tell anyone once you've worked it out. You seem to be maturing well Daniel. It's good to see. I think you will enjoy getting older. One day everything that seems so important now will not be. Some people take time to fit their skin.

      In my opinion. Japanese cartoons. Or manga. Is it anime or manga? Dunno. Are based for a younger audience. I've only watched like one anime and that was spirit away. It was weird but then again its a cartoon. Its not ment to be realistic. Either way with the weirdly big eyes. Over exaggerated emotions. Vibrant colors. And the fact that japanese is an odd language. Its simply no more than a cartoon. Then again this is my opinion on these cartoons. I'd prefer to watch Horror films or comedy instead. Anime isnt for me.
      But hey. That's my verdict. Everyone has their opinion

    As a passionate weeb in his teens and early twenties (and still a closet one now in his late twenties), it's amazing how much Daniel's obsession mirrors mine (and I'm guessing a lot of other young adults as well). It's even more admirable he did concerted efforts to learn the language, my dreams of visiting Japan always were limited to just that, daydreaming. But now that I'm closing 30 and have a decent income, I'm at least eyeing a Japan trip in the near future, and hopefully with age have formed a more realistic view of the country so that it won't disappoint me too much. Magic still exists, you just have to understand it is diluted with a dose of reality.

    Right now I'm fairly obsessed with learning Hebrew. I'm pretty ashamed of it. I haven't told a lot of people I'm studying it. Since I don't have much of a life, it's easy for Hebrew to dominate it. Even though I probably only study four hours on a good day. There's eight or more other hours and I barely remember how I spend them. Probably thinking about studying Hebrew or mindless internet browsing. One thing that makes me different is that I don't idealize Israel. I don't see myself moving there.

I know that happened before (regretting it) but that doesn’t mean it’s going to happen all the time. I kind of had a similar phase. I was born and raised in the US and experienced a bit of racist bullying all throughout school that made me feel alienated from my own culture. The worst of the bullying took place in middle school and I discovered anime around that time. So I discovered this cool, new interesting culture while at the same time feeling alienated from my own culture. This lead to me idolizing Japanese culture. I still enjoy anime but I don't nearly watch as much as I did back in middle and high school and I no longer idolize Japanese culture, though I am still interested in it.

    Dang I could relate to a lot of this man. Spend countless hours learning something only to later realize you don't care about said thing, then all motivation to do it all over again with something else disappears. I am in this same category. So you don't care for Japanese at all anymore??

    Try to use the good words for the very SAME things".
    Watching anime a lot and practising the language or to show eagerness to learn the language isn't being a weeb why does it have to be!!can't u be simply just a
    "Multilingual"? Or a *linguist!*Can't u be just simply interested in the language to an extent to want to learn it? Master it?Just like any other language!?
